On a hot summer’s day in 1989, a father and son travelling through Stockton, California, discover a VHS tape left by the side of a road. When they take it home and decide to watch it, they make a disturbing discovery. The tape contains footage of a house burning to the ground and was apparently filmed by the arsonist who lit the fire.

When investigators looking into the tape hit a series of dead ends, they enlist the help of popular television series Unsolved Mysteries, and the case becomes known as that of the infamous Stockton Arsonist.

I cried a little bit seeing it was only 20 odd minutes

Paraphilias know no bounds, or so it seems.

Nompilo Ngcobo

Waiting an entire week for a 24mins episode 😭

Carolyn Powell

A top quality podcast puts out a fairly short episode once (as a bonus episode, really) and people act like they've been betrayed, lol.

Bob Trenwith

And for what is essentially free content, given how little the Patreon subscription is. They forget that we used not to even get an episode on these off weeks. The undeserved sense of entitlement these days beggars belief.

Kim L.

Eh, I think it's also because last week's full-length ep was only 45 minutes. I honestly thought it was a Patreon pick last week. Regardless, well-produced content and I'll take anything and everything from Casefile! :)

Monica

It’s a supplemental episode. So for non Patreon subscribers they get no episode today and we get a shorter episode…

Bob Trenwith

Because of course they should pad their episodes just so they meet your minimum time requirements.

Bob Trenwith

So you want them to reduce the standard of their episodes by padding them with fluff? Interesting. These episodes are a BONUS. We never used to get them. Give some people a gift and they believe they are entitled to it for all time.

As a Pagan, I was thrilled and grateful that satan was referred to as a “Christian figure”. Casefile always gets the facts straight. But reading the comments I’m appalled at the whining that our bonus episode was not long enough for some people. It’s complete rubbish, you all do a fantastic job and this episode was great. Thank you!

Veya

That’s not true though. The amy boyer episode released today for non paterons. But good lord william rees, you’re being a baby.

Bob Trenwith

"I'm just having fun messing with folks" .... there's a word for that starting with "T" .... and ending with "rolling". It is usually an indicator of attention starvation.

Bob Trenwith

And people with that affliction are always able to reply within 5 minutes, because they have nothing else to occupy their time. In this case, only one minute. It's like they never leave their computer and are never doing anything else which might delay their response. Which I guess explains why such a person would wait for a week in constant expectation of their next slice of excitement.

Alien Princess

Omg that recording was so mf creepy!

Olive

This is so creepy

J. Chips

Yeah this one is absurd. They should make it a double episode or something!!

J. Chips

Honestly disappointed… I just watched the unsolved mysteries segment on this last week…. Episode is very short, please consider doubling up the short minisodes. I’m gonna save this for next weekend. Hopefully I’ll have at least an hour of content 🙄

Andrea Johnson

Y'all, the whining about how they aren't doing enough for us is not going to motivate them to do more. You know that's not how humans work, right?

Ally Jakubicka

I remember seeing this video decades ago but the details were fuzzy. I thought about it over the years and was happy to finally learn more.

Erica Salazar

When you played the audio from the video, I was like "Where did I hear this before?" then when you mentioned Unsolved Mysteries it brought back childhood memories of sitting in front of the TV as a child and having my first taste of true crime and the paranormal. I miss Robert Stack. Glad to have an upadate on this case.

Maya George

Oh my god, the voice from the video was so creepy!!

Nancy Ligos

WHO picks up an unmarked video tape on the side of the road & thinks “this will be good family fun?????” Imagine if it contained a snuff film or mutilation!?

Kerry Weinstein

I remember this episode of Unsolved Mysteries! The video was scary to see AND hear.

Napoleon in Rags

Great episode as always…I actually like these short episodes and would prefer more if these types
