A few days ago I posted the last photo on the Internet. I got many comments saying that it's AI generated forest and not a real one because it's impossible for the trees to look this way. This is why I wanted to show you a before version.

Although those comments were a bit hurtful, they inspired me to try the new AI generator in Photoshop. Before that I only tried the midjourney generator just for fun and not even on my own photos or myself. I was affraid that it would demotivate me from continue to learn because I knew I'll never be as good as a computer. So yesterday I think it was the right time to try it on my own photos.

I downloaded the beta version of Photoshop (like I said I never used it so I didn't know what to expect). I was wondering what this whole fuss is about. If people said it could generate this beautiful and magical forest, what else could it do?

I tried on the photo with my dog first. When taking that photo I knew I wanted to paste a mountain in the backgroud. This gave me a perfect opportunity to try and generate it. I thought about using one of my photos and do it manually like I always do.

Anyway, the results were pretty awesome. Of course some were worse than others but it did well. I thought about posting the first photo on social media and see if people will recognize it. I don't know if I'll be using that often (maybe for some little tweakments like hair etc.). I am still very sceptical about the impact it will have on my photos. I love what I do now and I am so affraid I could loose the passion and creativity.

Are you okay with AI? I know every editing software is based on some kind of AI and it was long before this new, more intelligent form. I want to know your thoughts and maybe I could soon form my own opinion and make some really important boundaries of how far can I take it.

Love, Erinthul.

your photos have been either “of a real place, animal, thing and person” or part of a fantastical story. AI can make the story part even more elaborate and removed from reality. How far you take AI depends on how much of the “real” you want to keep in your story. AI could probably create a wizened witch version of you that never existed in a place you’ve never visited - is that the story you want to tell?

I can't tell the difference too much but I'm not a photographer. Don't let the haters get you down. You're doing great work and you have a loyal base who supports you

You’re doing awesome work with great beauty. Don’t listen to the haters the ones who love what you’re doing will always support your choices. I will support even if you choose ai in the future your stories and openness is unique to you. You have a lot to offer not just a beautiful body. Keep doing what you enjoy we will enjoy it with you.

I am a landscape & wildlife photographer, and I use some AI in my photo processing. What you do is art. I briefly wondered if there were mountains like that near you, but I am not familiar with the countryside, so I didn't give it a second thought. What you are doing here for us, I consider storytelling and art. Beautiful art. I have no issue with using AI in some photo processing. What you did, I have no issue with at all. You were enhancing a blank space in the photo. Not really different than doing a sky replacement. What photographer here has done no photo enhancing at all to any of their photos? I'd venture a bet it's very few. That includes the 'film' era. Even all the old pro's did image/colour manipulation and more on some photos. Erinthul, I say keep doing what you're doing. Let the pixel peepers examine, in great detail, each photo. For me, I'll continue to enjoy your work either way. I love your work. Don't let the naysayers get you down.

I like the second one.

You are absolutely right. I have to be careful with that because would I still called the photos self-portraits if they are not even real? Or what's the point in looking for a cool places for photos when you can just generate them with one click of a button :/

Thank you! I honestly don't think some of the comments were hateful. I think a lot of people are know cofused because it's really hard to spot AI and many have lied about using it.

erinthul

Thank you so much for encouraging words. I think AI can help the artists a lot but I won't use it as a replacement for photography. I am glad I learn so much without it and now I can speed the editing process :)

erinthul

You are right! Even the first photos were edited. Thank you so much for your input! And there are definietly mountains like that here. Just didn't happens to be in this exact spot :)

erinthul

I can't pick between the first and the second one so you really helped me with that :D

Yes, and with the all white, bland sky in the original shot, many including myself will choose to do a sky replacement. You chose to put more landscape/background. (Side note...I'm drawn to the background with the fog) I see no difference. It's art, with you as both the main subject, and the artist. Keep doing what you're doing. What drew me in to your work, was the composition and mood of the picture, which align almost perfectly with the story line. That, combined with the fact that you're both the photographer and model. Let's not forget your willingness to be vulnerable and do many of the photos nude....in a very artful and beautiful way. All this to say, we are mostly all here to appreciate the artistic images being posted. What's the point in a negative review? The same thing can be said in positive, encouraging way. (eg.."suggesting a different viewpoint, and the way you would do it) Lastly, please forgive any of my typos here. I'm doing this on 4 or so hours sleep, and the tremors from Parkinson's making it really challenging to type.

Agreed. It seems to be more balanced. The first is good. Second is better. 🙂

My last comment... maybe 😉 You said it all in the title of this post. AI in art... I mainly use AI to speed up the processing time, to help enhance the lighting and colouring/depth of the image. I've done some sky and background replacement too. The biggest change I've made to a photo, is a daytime photo of an abandoned home, and the sky all with white, Bland clouds. I changed that to a night time image, with the Milky Way in the sky. I just wanted to see what AI could do. I was impressed
