What lies beneath?

Your mom!

Omg guys sorry but in my mind that happens every time I hear the title!

Ok wow, this was quite the ride for us. Carly….struggled at the end there. It was scarier than I thought it would be, but I’m bummed that I had read a comment spoiler about this one. I thought this was the perfect October movie!

[Full Reaction] What Lies Beneath (2000)

Comments

Alex Villarreal

Ok, fess up. Who spoiled this for Cassie?

William Bryan

I think she's startin to suspect something. Who? Your wife.

William Bryan

Cassie, if you think this is the perfect October movie you're going to struggle with Saw FYI. Lol

Adam Doyle

Sucks about the spoiler... I can only suggest having someone proofread the comments before you view them, or just avoiding them until after you watch the movies.

MatthewBrown74m

Fan fact: robert zemeckis was making this movie while waiting for tom hanks to lose weight for cast away and after he made what lies beneath he continue cast away. BOSS

Stick Figure Studios

It's unfortunate that the film got spoiled for you, but if it makes you feel any better, a large portion of the moviegoing audience at the time had the same experience because the film's original theatrical trailer gave away the final twist about *SPOILERS FROM HERE ON OUT* Harrison Ford's character being a bad guy who had an affair with the dead girl (for some weird reason, that seemed to be the MO for Robert Zemeckis movies for a while because the trailer for CAST AWAY also spoiled that Tom Hanks ultimately got off the island). This made the whole first half of the film somewhat tedious as you knew you were being fed a lot of red herrings about the neighbors. Still, not an unenjoyable movie. Stylishly directed by Zemeckis and featuring some solid performances by Pfeiffer and Ford. Sort of like an Alfred Hitchcock movie except that Hitch would never have had the supernatural element. He just didn't do that. Interested to see this reaction.

Odd Thomas

Spoiler dumdum should be banned!

rakesh

🤣

Doc Larry

The cast was perfect in this movie. If you got Carly to watch this movie, the next movie you’ll probably get her to watch is it! Only kidding

Philip G.

Never understand why people post spoilers ...even things like "omg the twist at the end " is still spoiling . Not this movie but in general .

Shehab Dawoud

I don’t care much for this movie but hopefully you will want to check out Michelle Pfeiffer in her best role, which is as Catwoman in ‘Batman Returns’ (1992). I think it’s common knowledge that she is the best Catwoman by far! You could watch it around Christmas time😁

Philip G.

Also you know what movie hasn't been spoiled ...The Fly

Red Dwarf

Really liked this one. It dragged a bit, but a good ghost story

Red Dwarf

Is Saw in her lineup? Who did that to her??? EDIT TO ADD: ok I see Saw is upcoming. SERIOUSLY PEOPLE?

William Bryan

I saw this the weekend it came out in July 2000. About three quarters through the movie a thunderstorm came through and the theatre lost power. So pissed off!!!!!! But we got free tickets to see it again the next weekend.

David Freese

Only thing is don't watch TV or theater trailers anymore because something like that killed a Terminator movie for me. I bet you know which one.

kaiielle

@Red Dwarf: You will have to blame her husband, Ben. Saw is his request.

James UK

So you need to let Carly watch a rom com with you in November to make up for this. I’ll suggest Four Weddings and a Funeral!

Kyle

Ok, might’ve been a bit hardcore for Carly…

Tyler Foster

This is why you don't comment spoilers! Don't even hint at them!

clutchkman

No apology necessary. "Your mom" jokes make the world a better place.

John Drake

Scary but not too scary - the original Wicker Man is quite extraordinary in its own right (with one very familiar face). Creepy and unsettling, but not gory or jumpy.

Story Archer

I cannot... CANNOT... handle the fact that we got a 'your mom' joke from Cassie.

JC762

Who spoiled it????!

Raymond Terry

Sorry to hear that someone in the comments spoiled it for you.

Uncle Phoenix

Cassie should make it up to Carly next month by watching a romance movie with horses. I suggest, “The Man From Snowy River” or “Quigley Down Under”.

Uncle Phoenix

BTW. Is anyone else confused? I thought that this was the most vanilla ghost story ever. I also thought that “Starship Troopers” was just a cheesier version of “Aliens”; and I also thought that “Predator” was an awesome action movie. I think that I’m done recommending movies in October.

Just Plain Bob

I’m with you. I watched “What Lies Beneath” on the recommendation of a buddy at work back when it was first released on dvd (and rental stores still existed). I was bored to tears. American ghost stories around this time were seemingly all very vanilla. Asian cinema, meanwhile, was making some of the scariest ghost movies seen to date around the same time. Several other people in my office had similar experiences when taking this particular co-worker’s movie advice and we collectively agreed that he could no longer recommend movies. Great lawyer, good friend, horrible taste in movies.

Uncle Phoenix

I’m just hoping that if Cass had a positive to neutral experience with IT 2, then maybe we can get more Predators or Alien reactions.

Just Plain Bob

The only downside to Michelle Pfeiffer in “Batman Returns” is that she can’t pull off “mousy.” She’s one of the most gorgeous women to ever walk the planet and there’s no hiding it.

Dan M

BOOOO!!! Who spoiled it for you? I know it’s really tricky when comments are written to not include spoilers, but even the most innocuous statement can give away too much. It’s so important to re-read your comments before hitting the send button. Anyway, so nice to see Carly back by your side for a good old fashioned spooky movie. And it’s also nice to see Harrison Ford back on the channel. This movie is a nice compliment to The Haunting of Hill House. Speaking of Harrison Ford, here are a couple of suggestions for Tender November starring the man himself: - Regarding Henry - Six Days, Seven Nights

Clarence Newman

What's Carly doing watching this? Was she lulled by Arsenic & Old Lace?

Rainbow Dash

You know what else lies beneath? MY MOM! -Muscle Man

Clarence Newman

OK, I'm off down to the Upcoming thread to find the spoiler. Last one back here is a rotten egg.

Augustine Lee

hahaha this was hilarious. great reax guys! first time hearing carlie say oh my hell! hahahaha fun rollercoaster ride experiencing this with yall. i saw this years ago but totally forgot the plot.

Blake Evans

Cant wait to watch y'all's reaction tonight. I remember seeing this one in the theater and finding my love of horror/thriller movies. But I probably went too deep too soon as my next thriller was Se7en (1995). It was slightly a different film... Though one of my all time favorites today.

Gábor Árki

I'm 50 minutes in and have to take a break. So far this is way more scarier than IT chapter 2. Unfortunately, I think I might have stumbled upon the same spoiler, but I’ll find out soon enough.

Clay F

I have not seen What Lies Beneath. A cross between Fatal Attraction and Poltergeist? Based on positive remarks (recommended) by some fellow patrons, I will watch it. I rarely watch supernatural movies. I like Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer (I read she is good). Gets mixed reviews. 138,000 users at IMDb = average rating of 6.6 What Lies Beneath (2000). IMDb 6.6, Metacritic 51%, RT 47% (audience 58%). "Robert Zemeck is unable to salvage an uncompelling and unoriginal film." I will watch the movie and see what I think. I liked The Village (first watch) better than its mixed reviews.

Shawn Kildal

I'll have to check the Upcoming post to find out who spoiled it.

Ricardo Rodriguez

Carly Joined?! This is gonna be great!

Ricardo Rodriguez

The mixed reviews are not on the money, so to speak. Critics were quick to dismiss at the time due an unflux of Ghost movies. And they were still teaching a lesson to Zemeckis for Forrest Gump getting Best Picture.

Uncle Phoenix

Btw. I think that Cassie is a real one for tackling the IT series. IT is scary and super gross; and I never would have recommended it for her.

D. T. Nelson

Casting Harrison Ford in that role was a genius move. At the time everyone only thought of him as "the hero", so no one would suspect him of being the bad guy. It was weird that Carly covered her face and refused to watch after all the scariest stuff had passed. Now you both need to go watch a "good guy" Harrison Ford movie—like Regarding Henry. Or rewatch Air Force One (in which Claire's friend, Elena—played by Wendy Crewson—portrays Harrison Ford's wife)

Shawn Kildal

I think someone spoiled it a long time ago. Can't remember who but he/she wrote Cassie wouldn't like the movie because of the (specifics) spoiler

Jasbro

Whoever spoiled this for you needs to be banned from the internet for life.

Wes

I’ve never seen this because someone spoiled it for me too

Dean Holt

It’s so annoying when you see a spoiler especially when it’s for a good movie. I wonder if it’s the same person who was posting a few spoilers for saw in another post. I’ll probably be watching this in a week or so as I watched it last week lol. But I still have to watch IT Chapter Two and I’m going to watch the 1st one again before. But tonight I’m catching up on Haunting on Hill House and rewatching Tremors.

Clarence Newman

Horses, eh? I would suggest "The Champ" (1979). Not a romance, per se, but a great father-son story. Or "City Slickers" (1991). Not a romance, per se, but definitely a funny bromance. The closest I can get to a "romance with horses" is "Quick & The Dead" (1995). Sharon Stone, Russell Crowe, Leo Di Caprio and Gene Hackman in an unusual and entertaining western.

Clarence Newman

Sometimes it's the production company that spoils it for Cassie. I remember her being annoyed because the DVD cover for "While You Were Sleeping" showed Bill Pullman in an embrace with Sandra Bullock. Anyone who's seen the film will know what a chronic spoiler that is!

Gábor Árki

Yep, I can confirm that this twist was partially spoiled for me too. I've seen this movie recommended before, and at least once it was mentioned that Ford plays the villain and claiming it’s his creepiest role. Which kind of ruins the entire twist of the movie, if you know in advance. I have to agree, it was genuinely scary at times, with those long, tension-filled shots building up to jump scares, which you could see coming a mile away but still get you. Some moments were on par with THE OTHERS, if not more intense. That one is also rated PG-13, interestingly. It seems that profanity, nudity, and gore can quickly push up the rating, but apparently scariness not. 😃 To redeem him for you (and me) I propose including a Ford movie for tender November. My suggestions: - REGARDING HENRY (1991) for a bit sentimental drama - Or if you prefer an 80s rom-com, then WORKING GIRL (1988) - Or maybe SIX DAYS SEVEN NIGHTS (1998), which is not that well liked but I always enjoyed it.

Gábor Árki

For me it was spoiled earlier, when someone suggested it maybe in the comments of another Ford movie or another thriller.

Clarence Newman

I don't have the DVD for this so I'll be waiting for the YT edit, but I had to just go and look at the end bit where "Carly was struggling". This is one of the many great things about Popcorn In Bed. Even from behind a blanket, Carly is so fun to watch.

Stick Figure Studios

It's interesting, Cassie, how often in the reaction you say it reminds you of DISTURBIA and not REAR WINDOW. :-/

Mike Jenson

Oh Carly you had me laughing lol. But in all fairness I was born in the 70's and grew up watching all the scary movies from the Exorcist to Friday the 13th. We were a bit tougher back then. A good Harrison Ford movie where he's vulnerable is Regarding Henery. and Grumpier Old Men will take your mind off of spooktober : )

Stick Figure Studios

Also, for those who have seen the film already: did anybody pick up on the double meaning of the word "LIES" in the title?

Gábor Árki

And that's exactly why I don't like the justification of some that reveling things that were part of trailers and promotional material can't be considered spoilers.

Stick Figure Studios

THE VILLAGE is an apt comparison to WHAT LIES BENEATH: both movies not deserving of their ambivalent reception, but also not nearly as good as they should have been.

Gábor Árki

For me it was spoiled a while ago, probably under another movie when someone recommended it, while also hinting and revealing Ford's role.

Just Plain Bob

This is the second time that Cassie has seen the actress that played Eowyn (Miranda Otto) in “The Lord of the Rings” in another movie and hasn’t recognized her. She played Mary Feur in this movie and Tom Cruise’s ex-wife in “War of the Worlds.”

Just Plain Bob

Yep. I really liked “Disturbia” when I saw it in theaters but there’s no escaping the fact it’s a pale imitation of “Rear Window.” This isn’t the first time that Cassie compared a movie she was reacting to, to “Disturbia” rather than “Rear Window”, although I can’t remember what the other movie was.

Stick Figure Studios

I thought for sure when Michelle pulled out the binoculars and saw the guy in the window staring right back at her, Cassie would make the connection.

Clarence Newman

Those of us who've watched "Saw" know something Ben doesn't. The night Cassie watches it, he's sleeping on the couch.

William Bryan

"No sugar tonight in my coffee No sugar tonight in my tea No sugar to stand beside me No sugar to run with me"

Joe

She decided herself to watch IT2 this year.

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

I saw this back in the VHS days. I miss the days when spoilers weren't all over the Internet because well you didn't really know where to look or care to look. People just saw movies because they wanted to or because they were on.

Clay F

First watch. I had no idea would be an evil Harrison Ford. (Witness and The Fugitive are two of my favorite movies.) Carly watched the vast majority of the movie, and was kept abreast those few minutes. I liked this movie okay. I thought the underwater dead Madison at the end was striking. Michelle Pfeiffer is beautiful with good acting and a presence. The wife (Eowyn) next door is pretty. I watched Disturbia (PG-13) and Rear Window each a few times. But as you indicated, that first part of the movie with the neighbor was merely a distraction. My favorite movie so far this spooky October on the channel is Cloverfield.

Mike Lemon

I haven't seen this movie but caught the end of the reaction after reading some of the comments. I love how Carly nope-ed out at the end, never change. Myself, after I saw the Daniel Pearl video, there was a lot I refused to watch. It just isn't good for the soul. I'm not as bad as Carly, or should I say I'm not as good as Carly?

Alex Villarreal

I love how goofy it is that they named Harrison Ford’s character Norman. That’s like naming a random character “Michael” or “Myers” in a thriller. I counted three Hitchcock movie homages—Psycho (bath/curtains/Norman), Vertigo (possible possession), and Rear Window (pesky neighbor).

Shad Kanyak

The only thing scary about this movie is that’s it’s 24 years old already.

David Freese

Well if you don't see promotional materials for a movie ( I know hard to do now) its still a spoiler. I got fo mad because I avoid everything about Endgame but couldn't watch first weekend. Some guy on the bus is yelling on the phone telling every part of the movie and I had to tell him to close his mouth.

Mike LL

Everyone is assuming that Cassie got spoiled in the comments, but I got the impression that Cassie found that out not recently, that she has known for awhile. She didn't say that she just found out. That was one amazing reaction. For those that say this is not a scary movie, this reaction is proof that for some is indeed scary, and it is great to see such a heartfelt reaction. The reaction just made the movie better. One of the best reactions this scary season! Cassie said in the outro, "Who directed that?" It was just the director of Back To The Future and Forrest Gump!

David Freese

It was her husband Ben. Also Saw 1 isn't that gory its more of a thriller. It gets lumped together with the sequels unfortunately. It was at Sundance and the original short for it won awards. It may not be up Cassies alley in the long run but let her determine that for herself.

David Freese

You all need to stop thinking Cassie can't handle things in the 4 years pib has been around Cassie has seen almost everything we have. It might not be her favorite but let her determine that. Just a request because telling someone they aren't going to like something is almost as bad as posting spoilers.

Carol_White

Don't spoil the fucking movies.

Stick Figure Studios

And CONTACT, which they both loved. :-) I'm now thinking that a better Zemeckis movie for Carly and Cassie this Halloween would have been DEATH BECOMES HER.

Stick Figure Studios

*SPOILER* Carly: "I thought Harrison Ford was going to be a good guy in this movie!" Which is precisely why they cast him. If it had been, say, Gary Oldman, you would have suspected him right away, but Harrison Ford, the ultimate good guy, is not someone that you suspect will turn out in the end to be a psycho killer... even if his name is Norman. ;-)

Stick Figure Studios

I know exactly what the thumbnail for this movie needs to be when it goes to YT. :-)

JL_83

Indiana Jones, Air Force One, Patriot Games, The Fugitive, Clear and Present Danger, 42...watch all of those over again and you'll be fine :)

Stick Figure Studios

Also, *SPOILER* did anyone else notice the face in the snow on the ground of the graveyard in the film's final shot?

Eddie Perkins

I would love for a movie to scare me like it does Carly or even Cassie. The last time I remember being that scared watching a movie was at the theater when I watched The Exorcist, and I think I was 13, maybe 14. So, I might be a little desensitized by now. Cassie has gotten a lot better; she did watch IT and IT Chapter Two. Carly, on the other hand, has a little ways to go.

Stick Figure Studios

I think it's the same for me. I've seen some movies that have certainly kept me on the edge of my seat or giving me the heebiejeebies, but the last time I was truly and utterly terrified at a film was when I saw THE EXORCIST as an adolescent. It's still the scariest film I've ever seen.

Stick Figure Studios

I haven't watched it in a long time before today. I still like it, but I think it could have been tighter. I understand wanting to drag out the suspenseful set pieces, but there's a lot of air that could be taken out even in the dialogue scenes. It's 2 hours and 10 minutes long. There is no reason whatsoever that this film needed to be more than 2 hours.

Clay F

Before I watched the movie, I saw the 2hr 10min run time and thought that long, and then after watching confirmed it seemed long.

Stick Figure Studios

That is, to quote Alfred Hitchcock, despicable beyond words. I heard a story about a guy who emerged from a screening of THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK in opening weekend and shouted the big surprise to all the people standing in line waiting for the next showing.

Chris Thom

A movie for the single ladies and fellas out there. Sometimes a 'small win' is a giant effing victory and dodged bullet. So congratulations. Lol. This is an expertly made thriller. Perfect movie for the season. So glad you guys watched this and Carly joined!

Chris Thom

I think it was me. In a LIVE chat. We were talking about Harrison always being a hero in movies. And I said 'well there was that one movie...' But I think I just said his character was 'complicated' and left it at that.

Chris Thom

I think I saw this before Psycho. So I never even considered that. Didn't notice until later all the references to Hitchcock.

Chris Thom

This came out in the same period as the Scream movies, and all the other Kevin Williamson ones, so I was kind of expecting Harrison to be bad. And yeah I think Ford wanted to play a villain at the time.

Stick Figure Studios

Yeah, Hitchcock is all over this movie... except that he would never have allowed a supernatural element into the story.

Chris Thom

I remember when Two Towers came out and I knew she looked familiar but couldn't figure it out.

Chris Thom

That house was built specifically for the movie, so I think they wanted to get their money's worth with it.

Brian McGovern

Interesting fact which I am sure has been mentioned several times already. I am not going to sort through 122 comments to check this by the way. Robert Zemeckis filmed this movie while they took a several month break fil.ing Castaway. Tom had to lose A LOT of weight to play a man who was emaciated after spending 5 years shipwrecked on an island, so Robert filmed this while they had gone on hiatus from Castaway.

V M

Who spoiled the movie?

djKENTO

I propose a new rule. For every scary movie you get to close your eyes 4 times for 3 seconds each.

Author Travis Adams Irish

Haha. A dirty joke. That's gangster! Great job! Freedom of Speech! Love it! Keep the humor coming!

RabidMango

No shade for turning away. And on the plus side in the future she can try a second first time watch. But no joke I was very scared watching this movie.

Anthony Oberhauser

I’ve been waiting two years for you ladies to watch this movie. It was the perfect thriller when it comes to tension. Not a slasher or over the top horror movie. It was subtle and the use of music, lighting, and pace were on point. This movie always scares the ladies. Probably because it’s realistic and the jump scares work on the women more than the men. Good effort ladies; you didn’t disappoint. These thrillers with high tension and minimal blood are my favorite scary movies. This movie gets 5 out of 5 Cassie Popcorns 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿for tension and scare factor. I have a feeling this will win or be a nominee on the Poppies for scariest reactions for the Popcorn sisters. Bravo ladies. 👏👏

RabidMango

Heeey! Cool shoutout. This is my third watch and I never noticed.

Chris Thom

I really wanted them to do this one too. For a long time. Bonus that she got Carly to come along. Really wasn't expecting that.

Annie519

I think this film is brilliant! The acting from Michelle and Harrison is great, they had really good chemistry and did seem like a happy couple, it's a big part as to why the twist is so unsettling. And yes, he staged his "accident" in the bathtub to make Claire feel bad and stay, he was so manipulative. When you go back and watch the scene when she's playing the cello again he goes behind her and puts his hand on her shoulder, he knew what he was doing, again manipulating her. And the sad part is it was a happy marriage for Claire, she had no idea the darkness that was inside him and that is just a chilling thought. The scares are so well done, nothing feels cheep. I don't jump very easily but I did a few times the first time I saw this. I also love that nothing is pointless, everything has a meaning. You could say the next door couple was but for me it wasn't because that is what starts Claire on suspecting a spirit and it's a great red herring. But there's also things like the front constantly opening, she kept doing that because that is where Claire saw them through the mirror or how she kept appearing in the bathroom because that was where Norman killed her, she killed her the exact same way he tried to kill Claire. She kept dropping the picture so she would look in the back, she saw her in the water in the lake because that's where Norman hid the box. It's just very smart writing. Also nothing is said that isn't important, like not getting a signal on the bridge or the paralyzing drug. And I think the misdirect on Madison's intentions were so well done. Throughout the whole movie you think she wants to harm her but no, not only does she want Claire to find out so her murder can be revealed and she can have some peace but also to help her. And I do think Madison purposely chose to do this after Katie went to college. I always feel so bad for Madison, she wasn't perfect, she made mistakes but she didn't deserve what happened to her. And just think, we saw how horrific it was for Claire but sadly Madison wasn't able to save herself and was forced to die that way. And I think that smile she gives was perfect after Norman dies, like she finally got her justice and she was able to actually contribute and help save Claire. It's so good, I love it!

Annie519

I also find this WAY creepier then IT. I don't find that film scary in the slightest, lol. I don't jump anymore since I've seen this film several times now but when I first saw it I jumped a few times and I don't very easily. And I also think there is even better suspense and tension, it does a great job of tricking the audience. You think something scary will happen but nothing does and when you have your guard down that's when they do the scare. To me that's what IT doesn't do very well, it's pretty predictable.

Carol_White

It was OK. Also, your mom.

Brian McGovern

Damn. I did not know this was co-written by agent Coulson.

Matthew Gibson

I can't believe you got Carly to watch this (well, most of it). It's a super good spooky thriller and full of jump scares - someone pulled the rug over your eyes which is good because that's how Carly watched the end of it lol. Seriously though Cassie and Carly ya'll never disappoint. For me half the fun is like watching a movie with Girls who are easily scared and knowing what is coming up.... and so... many.... Fetches! Ya'll need to add a Fetch counter!

Danny

Carly playing as ghost 👻 with the blanket cover

YodatheHobbit

The main reason I like this movie is because Harrison is playing against type. Also, no worries Carly, cowering is just as entertaining a reaction as watching the ending. Watching a little Six Days Seven Nights will fix ya right up.

Michael Labs

I appreciated and was surprised by Carly participating in this one. I don't know if this is "Loki"-style mischievous or evil of me however... that was so... much... fun! I thought the movie was a creepy mystery and not especially scary but this is the beauty of the reaction channels. How the folks not raised on and blood and gore took this movie very differently. This and "The Haunting of Hill House" totally made my October. Keep up the good work team.

Michael Labs

PS: I felt like a kid in a candy store on this movie reaction, please don't change too much Cassie and Carly.

Gábor Árki

IT was creepy and scary for me, but I think this built up even more tension and delivered more effective jump scares, especially in the first hour. But for IT Chapter 2, I already knew what to expect, so it wasn’t nearly as scary as the first and yeah, it felt somewhat predictable.

Mojo One Thousand

I don't think there is any reason that Cassie and Carly shouldn't be scared of elements of this movie. As they said at the end, it is realistic and relatable, as some of the suspense and tension in this movie revolves around a woman being unsettled in her own home, what would be normally be considered a safe space. Plenty of stuff I was going to say has been said, about most of the familiar faces in the cast, the director, and the co-writer. The only one I didn't see previously mentioned was Amber Valletta, who played "Madison Elizabeth Frank"; she was a pretty good bit of casting to somewhat similar to Michelle Pfiffer. I very confident that you guys know her from the Will Smith movie "Hitch", she plays the seemingly unattainable woman that being pursued by Kevin James' character with the assistance of Smith's titular "Hitch" character.

David Freese

I definitely would of lost it if they did that to me and I was only 8 at the time.

Wesley White

First and foremost, not to worry I'm not gonna say anything bad towards either Carly or you for being so spooked at this movie, and in all honesty I'm really surprised that she joined you for this lol! Wooo, that sure was a hoot LOL🤣🤣🤣 It's been forever since I saw this movie, I was 12 years old when this first came out! Of course I didn't see it in the theater, eventually my father and I rented it and watched it! Now I won't deny, the jump scares did get me as well, but this movie was nowhere near at giving me nightmares back then! I personally think this movie is so underrated and deserves more credit for it's creativity in mystery and the "who done it" genre, with a pinch of haunting lol! Believe me Cass, I was just as surprised as you and Carly were when finding out that Harrison Ford was the antagonist in this movie, just goes to show how much range he's got as an actor! I liked how you were naming off all the movies he was in where he's the good guy, how could you forget he was in STAR WARS lol😂 Opinions and thoughts, I honestly enjoyed this movie! I had no idea that Robert Zemeckis directed this movie, he also did the: BACK TO THE FUTURE trilogy, ROMANCING THE STONE, CONTACT, FORREST GUMP, etc. just to name a few that I'm familiar with that he's done! However, as I was watching this, I was in total shock to find out who the two actors were who were the next door neighbors in this movie, James Remar who played the husband, I've seen him in lots of movies! However who played the wife really shocked the heck out of me! It was none other than Australian actress Miranda Otto, or should I say..... Eowyn from THE LORD OF THE RINGS...... HOLY MACKEREL 😱😱😱 Guilty as charged, I did get a good laugh at all your jumpscares, I'm sorry Cass! Especially towards the end, I couldn't help but laugh at you and Carly jumpscaring lol! If I could say anything, I can definitely agree that movies like THE SHINNING and IT are a bit more scarier than this! As for me, I don't scare that easily, none of those movies scared me at all when I first saw them, not to brag lol! Anyway, I did enjoy this reaction! I still say you and Carly must watch VAN HELSING to close out spooky season, I assure you that it's the perfect "scary, but not to scary" Halloween themed movie! It's on the level with movies such as TREMORS and it's directed by Stephen Sommers who did THE MUMMY and THE MUMMY RETURNS! I would never steer you wrong! Though that movie can be watched anytime really, I personally love watching VAN HELSING during Halloween time, but that's just me lol! Love and support to you always, you and Carly are the best, can't wait for more reactions, hope you and the family have a fun and safe Halloween since it's coming up soon! Have a good weekend, take care, and God bless y'all and the family🥰😇🙏😁🤗😉👍✌🌹

Clarence Newman

Cassie just looked at Carly and said, "No problem. We'll nail that target in the first 5 minutes!"

Phillip Bates

Robert Zemeckis directed and he also directed Forrest Gump. He's amazing. Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer were also incredible. Great reaction... even Carly hiding for the last quarter of the movie.

Clay F

When you say realistic, are you referring to the ghost?

Mojo One Thousand

No, that's why I said some elements. Things like doors opening unexpectedly, or pictures falling off shelves, or mysterious noises, exacerbated by weird interactions with neighbours, so basically the first third of the movie before everything was attributed to the apparition.

Tony Tenser

I love Carly x Never change, sweetheart!

pat on

there was another "kid friendly" thriller from around that time called Thirteen Ghosts you should watch that next year.

Richard Maurer

Yet she keeps avoiding The Fly (mostly due to exaggeration) which isn’t really scary, just gross.

Scott Macaulay

I had no idea this movie existed. I've heard of it but I think I confused it with another movie about a haunted submarine or something. Seeing Harrison Ford play a psycho really hit different. Michelle Pfeiffer always a treat.

Joe

Carly not watching the movie at the end was too precious (haha). This movie is a Hitchcockian slow burn, not something you would see made now-a-days. Everything now must be fast and dumbed down so much. Great reaction ladies!

Clarence Newman

As these two lovely ladies saw the need to apologise yet again for how they reacted/acted, attended/didn't attend, so on and so forth, I think it's time we gave them some home truths. First of all.....SHIRLEY, one chooses to subscribe to a certain reactor's channel because one has seen something one likes about said reactor's reactions and therefore wants to see more of the same. Becoming a subscriber and then complaining that the reactor doesn't act or react the way one wants them to is Shirley one's own problem. Second: *Carly apologising for not watching scary movies with Cassie in October.* We have known this about you for three years, baby sister, therefore we don't expect it and it's a full Willy Wonka treat when you do turn up. Third: "Carly hiding behind a blanket for the last 30 minutes of the film." Some may complain that we can't see her reacting while she's doing that, but that's only because she's well pretty and we want to see more of her face. Nobody puts Baby behind a blanket! Fourth: "Cassie often mentions that she gets self-conscious on her live events because she gets tired of the sound of her own voice and thinks we must be tired of it too." We never get tired of your voice, Cassie, so stop trying to suppress your basic female nature. Many of us like to listen to you talk in the background without having the video up on screen. For the most part, it's because we're working on other things at the time, only occasionally because you're having an ugly day. And Finally: *"Stop doing finger guns, Cassie!", which is a direct quote from a reaction I watched recently.* Hell no, Cassie. We love the finger guns. Finger guns, pouty little shocked face, constant, unnecessary hair adjustments, crap Vulcan salutes, occasional on-camera murders of innocent moths - the list is endless. We love both of you, basically. So shush.

Mike Lemon

He was dead, they are related, they died together, he went back to sleep, he came out of retirement and won. There's five movies spoiled...mwahahahaha

Chris Thom

And the element of being married to someone, or family to, or bonded with, someone with a side to them that they don't show you. That's fairly realistic. And affairs happen obviously. Not too hard to believe an affair could spiral out of control when one or both cheaters get possessive.

Larry Darrell

Some people like to recommend a film, say it’s terrific, but then have to point out that it has a “sad ending.” Why? Please Don’t. That’s just saying to Cassie. “No matter how happy you think the film’s getting, it’s not going to stay that way.” That’s Spoiling the Ending. Also, “happy” or “sad” endings are absolutely relative.

Larry Darrell

Ever seen Criminal Law (1988), with Gary Oldman and Kevin Bacon? I read what it was about, then watched. It got me. ;-)

Cody Nelson

Crazy to think that guy who directed this (Robert Zemeckis) also directed the Back To the Future trilogy. 😀

Larry Darrell

Dang! Been reading from the bottom, and thought I was going to get to drop that nugget. Yep. Written by Clark Gregg… Agent Phil Coulson and husband to Dirty Dancing’s and Ferris Bueller’s, Jennifer Grey. Married one year to the day of the release of this film.

Clarence Newman

OK, I got this.... Sixth Sense Star Wars Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid The Matrix? Jim Braddock in Cinderella Man? Shane Falco in The Replacements? John Wick?

Mike Lemon

@Clarence - For the movies I was thinking of, you got the first two. (these haven't been on channel yet, so spoilers ahead) Hints for the others- 3- The ultimate Cassie and Carly movie (they have seen it off channel). 4- Second star to the right. 5- i don't get no respect.

Gray

I swear she's done a few Your Mom jokes now lol

Gray

Decent film tbh nice to see Harrison change it up, luckily I hadn't seen spoilers for it. I wonder if the YT comments will be a kind as in here for Carly lol, probably one of the reasons why she wouldn't do her own channel

Clarence Newman

3) Have they seen that one off screen? It's not on Cassie's Letterbox page. (That's assuming the film you're talking about contains the immortal line........"Hwut?...... HWUT?") 4) Surely they've seen Pierre Poêle! 5) Not sure of the film but it contained a Field full of Danger.

Stick Figure Studios

@Larry: That's why I think "bring tissues" is more ambiguous because the tears could from sadness or they could be from joy. :-)

Clarence Newman

The comments on Cassie's YT videos are generally pretty good, actually. There are some nasty ones, of course, but then again, the internet is like your basic wardrobe. You can't build one without including a few knobs.

Mike Lemon

3- It's on page 10 of her Letterboxd and she mentioned it at the end of Maverick (not Top Gun). 4- I don't get your reference. 5- Yes it does.

Gray

Oh yeah sorry I meant in a more ribbing way, but ofcourse I know what you mean always gonna be a few unsavoury people commenting on any vid

Clarence Newman

3) We can't be talking about the same film, Mike, because the one I'm thinking of is definitely not on Page 10 or any other page of her Watchlist. I went through it just yesterday to make sure my list was up to date and just checked again now. To narrow it down, the film came out in 1991 and Harvey Keitel is third-billed on IMDB. 4) I think I can say this one in English because everyone knows the story. Surely they've seen Peter Pan. Sorry Carol. We're trying real hard to conform to your directive here!

Mike Lemon

3- The ultimate Cassie/Carly movie came out in 2004. 4- On the right track. I've recommended it a few times.

Clarence Newman

There's a video on YT where reactors read out mean messages. Cassie and Carly are on there. It's an insight into the type of blue-screen, defective dum-dums that are out there. The best one by far was the guy who wrote: "The level of your stupididty is amazing, i never seen human being that ignorat." Unquote. The girls just had a laugh with it and that's all they need to do.

Clarence Newman

Ahhhhh. 3) Do I need to consult my.......? 4) Crocodile Dundee, but without the Dundee. And The Handmaiden's Tale without the Hand.

Uncle Phoenix

Here is an unpopular opinion. I just watched the new Jennifer Lopez movie on Netflix,…and I Loved it. I wanted to hate it; but it was a very good movie. Edit: movie is called, “Atlas”.

Mojo One Thousand

Yeah, I did think this Is a movie that could be made without the paranormal stuff, and still be a suspense/thriller movie. The clues to the infidelity could being found without the assistance of a ghost, but I guess that was an aspect that was probably giving it a point of difference to that style of suspense/thriller.

Mojo One Thousand

My favourite thing from the October movies is still the pulling out of a quote from Jason Bateman's "Pepper Brooks" from "Dodgeball" in response to a jump scare - "Frickin' 'ey Cotton". Between that and the "your mom" joke (don't apologise Cassie), we need some crude, outrageous comedies.

Mike Lemon

4- No croc'. Heck, one of the main title characters is barely in it.

David Kent

The cinematography was well done. All of the pans that were a fake out really make it more suspenseful. Also the sound design, the last 30 or so minutes where it was eriley silent was great.

Uncle Phoenix

OMG; I’m so bummed. I was bored and wanted a pick me up and tried to watch “Groundhog Day” and found out that Cassie’s reaction to it no longer exists. (Tear)

Chris Thom

Well that came out of left field. Lol. I have been curious about it. Just not enough to actually watch it.

Uncle Phoenix

I was so shocked. I literally watched it JUST so I could Hate On It; but it was so good. She is such a good actor. “An Unfinished Life” was so good too. (I think that’s what I’ll watch tonight; since I can’t watch Cassie’s reaction to “Groundhog Day”.)

Richard Maurer

So does saying The Fly is really gross count as a spoiler? Shouldn’t Cassie have been allowed to experience it for herself?

Philip G.

@richard in a way yes it ruins it . Imagine you are about to watch a movie and someone says " omg it's so gross you're going to vomit "...well now I'm expecting it and my reaction won't be a pure reaction .

Walter

to re-align with your Harrison Ford love, you should BOTH watch Regarding Henry. It'll make you feel better. I promise.

Kent Theaker

I'm sure this was said elsewhere, but it was INSANE that this was recommended for Carly. What a disaster! This is a genuinely creepy horror movie. My favourite detail about this one is that it was made halfway through CAST AWAY while director Robert Zemeckis waited for Tom Hanks to lose weight and grow a long beard!

Doug Fisher

You could also have Carly watch the OT Star Wars for Han Solo to purge the bad Harrison. Actually, Carly lasted longer than I thought she would. :) A few things... the next door neighbor wife is played by Miranda Otto (Eowyn from "Lord of the Rings"), Madison was played by Amber Valletta (Allegra Cole from "Hitch"), and the therapist was played by Joe Morton (Myles Dyson from "Terminator 2"). Did you guys notice when she was possessed and on top of him on the desk and said, "I think she's starting to suspect something." and then leans forward to say, "Your wife." that her face actually turned into Madison's as she leaned forward? Last thing Cass... in the winter cemetery scene, as Claire is walking away and it begins to fade to black, did you see Madison's face in the snow?! Most people miss it.

Clarence Newman

Muzzle toff! Carol. Thank you for letting us play on your post! To reiterate.....NO SPOILERS!!!!!

Clarence Newman

Had the same problem when I tried to watch the Patreon-only reaction to The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing. "Does not exist". It's even worse on that one because there's no YT edit.

Walter

also Working Girl. Great movie. Underrated Harrison Ford performance.

William Bryan

Carly really does scare easily doesn't she? You to a lesser extent, Cassie. Completely foreign to me lol. I used to jump when I saw movies(I did a couple times when I saw this in theatres), but this was before I was like 19.

Larry Darrell

@Richard - Fair Point. I held off watching, The Haunting of Hill House (2018), because I heard some reviews saying people were throwing up. Even here on PiB, after the first two episodes, Cassie said she read a comment saying the next episodes will make you want to “pull your eyes out your nose.” I thought this was a show that I needed to be in the right mood for because I was going to see something disgusting. Those comments about the show were far from how I felt about it, and they made me more tense than I needed to be going in. There were some great jump scares, but nothing I’d say disgusting. Hill House is about 75% or more family drama, that was well worth Cassie’s time, and she likes the show. “Gross and Disgusting” are also relative. I may have been guilty of this in the past, but I feel like what I’ve always tried to do was convey how I, personally, felt about a film after watching it, such as Saw and The Fly. Which is something I’ve realized isn’t right either. When she originally announced she was going to watch Saw, 2 years ago I think, I truthfully, but maybe in too much detail, stressed how tense I was when I first watched Saw. This was my response to my thinking, “WTH, you’re watching Saw, but you won’t watch The Thing because The Thing is too scary! The Thing is not Scary (to me)” She wound up canceling Saw, which I hate to think I might of contributed, but probably did. Last year, I was wanting something else to get watched over The Fly, so I made some truthful comments about, myself not having an urge to ever watch The Fly again, after that first watch. These are things that we’ve all probably been guilty of at one point. And we all should probably try to stop. Cassie is here to Watch Films and give an Honest Reaction to them, based on her feelings, morals and proclivities. We shouldn’t try to give our opinions, before hers. Hers is the only one that really matters on this Channel, and it shouldn’t be tainted. I’ve been trying lately to just “Recommend” films to watch without any extra elaboration. Hell, I’ve always hated recommending Rom-Coms, and labeling it a Rom-Com. I’ve done it in the past, because I want her to notice it, but to me that is ruining a possible surprise in the reaction.

Joe

How did she lose the old reactions, was that caused by the google-drive fiasco?

Uncle Phoenix

It’s my illusion that it was because of copyright issues. (Related to the way it was edited together.)

Richard Maurer

@ Philip G - Not that most people who are spoiling horror films will care anyway. I was being somewhat rhetorical when I posed this question, I just wanted point it out to all concerned.

Richard Maurer

@ Larry Darrell - I rarely say much about a film other than “I like this film “ or “I don’t like this film” or words to that effect. But I personally don’t think giving the basic genre a film is in is a spoiler. Most films genres are usually pretty obvious, unless it’s a film with a twist, like labeling Unbreakable (spoiler alert ;-) ) a superhero film. The line between spoiler and non-spoiler can be blurry and very subjective at times. And as we’ve seen with both Saw and The Fly, people will say things about films that just aren’t true, whether through being misinformed, misremembering, or just plain lying.

Rick Williams

Nice blast from the past. Good suspense thriller. Good try Carly. Great Reaction Ladies.

BibbitduBois

All I can say is, "Poor Carly".

Caomhan84

I remember seeing this movie in the theaters when it came out. It was good, but I haven't revisited it. I sympathize with Carly though... I just don't see the fascination with scary movies. I realize people absolutely love them but I just.... Can't bring myself to watch them. Which is why I have avoided this channel for most of the month.

Doug Fisher

You have to remember that a great deal of viewers take a perverse pleasure in seeing reactors squirm. Why else do you think that horror and war genre films get so many views?! So, it doesn't surprise me when reactors are not part of the equation. Having said that, it seems in this case it was a Cass pick that she has wanted to react to for a while so you really can't blame viewers for this one. She needs someone she can trust to give her spoiler free advice and backgrounds on films.

Chris Thom

It's such a subjective thing though. People can have such wildly different opinions about what is scary, or triggering, or even good or worth watching. I'm actually really surprised Carly got as scared as she did, considering it's a PG-13 film. Though the twist at the end does get more disturbing the more you think about it.

TheGuy

Wow. That was some great theatre. The movie wasn't bad either.

Ricardo Rodriguez

WOW! LMAO! Late to watch this reaction, but this was one for the books. By the middle of the movie I thought this was one the most fun reactions by you guys because how affective the movie was. But by the last third, I genuinely felt really bad for Carly. So tops to you Carly for being a trooper. And Cassie has become a real veteran with the scary stuff. "They need John Constantine.'' had me dying. It does confirm for me how great this movie is. 2 Stars at the top of their game and a director at the top of his craft. Truly thank you for getting through it you guys.

Chris Thom

This is now one of my favorite reactions they've ever done together. Carly was too adorable. And Cassie laughing her ass off at her. lol

Chris Thom

Watching this reminded me how Zemeckis really takes his time in this one. It's kind of nice. Feel like movie's don't have that kind of patience nowadays. And rarely did back then, too.

Philip Alan

First time watching. All I could do while watching with you was comment on some of the awesome direction going on (I hadn't seen who was the director). And so at the end... when looking it up... yup. Figures. So awesome! I especially loved the scene when the camera pans BELOW Michelle as she was lying on the floor! As if he was shooting through the floor boards. LOVE THAT!

Bert Towle

Sorry, but I much prefer it when they're delighted than when they're terrified.
