Data: I feel obliged to point out that the environmental anomalies may have stimulated certain rebellious instincts common to youth, which could affect everyone's judgment... Except mine of course. Cmdr. Beverly Crusher: Okay Data. What do *you* think we should do? Data: Saddle up, lock and load!

Neill Shaughness

Once again I suggest you watch The Menagerie pt1 and 2 before watching the Chris Pine movies

Chrissonator

Can't wait for Nemesis, I assume will be out tomorrow? 🤔 I'm not sure what your Trek movie release schedule has been, I just wait until the notification pops up 😂

Brian Cowgill

And why go back it has no prevalence there's nothing she needs from tos to go in to 2009 onwards that she hasn't already watched.

Brian McGovern

How does she get the Admiral's name so wrong yet manages to get the name of the admiral from Return of the Jedi? 😆

Gabriel L.

I was pretty sure you would enjoy this one. :-) Most people's criticisms of this entry are that certain elements of the plot are questionable if you think about them too much. But I think they did well with the character moments and it was nice to have a lighter, more playful / romantic tone.

John Liebling

Cassie do recognize the name F. Muray Abraham? He was the villain in Amadeus. No spoilers but the 4th movie is going to bring forth a lot of emotions for Cassie.

TheSingulatarian

Since Earl Holloman just died. It would be a great time to watch Forbidden Planet. The proto Star Trek

Bryan Fritchie

You may have already been brought up to speed on this, but I didn't see it here so figured I might as well. What you missed is that in Encounter At Farpoint (s1e1), it shows that Riker & Troi had a relationship before they were on the Enterprise. Then, unless you've watched episodes that haven't been posted, they had an on again off again relationship throughout some of the seasons. Still hoping you'll go watch more episodes and post them. 😁 Riker references the Br'er Rabbit, his story made popular from a Disney movie, Song of the South (1946). The Br'er Rabbit tricked his enemies into throwing him into the briar patch bc he knew he was safe there. The movie originates from old African stories, so some people deemed it racist and so you've probably never seen it because it's hard to find.

Dana Regan

I always liked this movie for the dialogue

Stranger2Reality

Instead history remembers the "Riker Maneuver" as the weird way he sits in chairs: https://youtu.be/lVIGhYMwRgs

Without understanding the DS9/Dominion War, Starfleet Commands motives seem out of character. However, knowing the Dominion was winning the war, leaders make rash decisions. Cassie needs to delve into DS9 and a lot more will make sense.

Matt O'Keefe

Admiral Ackbar? Ha!

Michael Siegel

I've always felt this one was underrated. Presents a nice moral conflict. has fun with the characters. My opinion has improved over time. Hope you get your voice back soon!

Samuel Champ

Another fantastic reaction from the GOAT! If you truly want to take Patrick Stewart down from the pedestal you have him on. I suggest the 1999 version of A Christmas Carol with him playing Ebenezer Scrooge. Not as good as George C. Scott's from the mid 80's but still pretty good.

John Sullivan

Have the writers ever been to a real farm? At least Lord of the Rings made their anti-technology utopia a bit realistic

Dirk-Jan (DJ)

I assume Nemesis will be a great disappointment after Insurrection. 🤔😉

Mark White

Oh yes please, Forbidden planet is a must. Arguably the granddaddy of Sci-fi.

Mark White

As someone who is no stranger to back pain! Johnathan Frakes does very well to cope with his back problems. Its clearly a constant problem for him.

Mark White

Cassie, it’s not for me this one, but, I had a feeling you might like this one. Once again your reaction has made a average movie far more enjoyable than it would normally be for me. I believe with insurrection they wanted to go with a more light hearted tone to the movie, very much like they did with the “voyage home” after Star Trek 2 and 3. But for some, like me, I didn’t quite hit the spot. It’s more like a long episode than a big trek movie. Which is ok, but Just ok! Thanks for your reaction, it’s brightened up my morning and keep the voice.😉

Stranger2Reality

I loved his role in The Last Action Hero, when the kid says to watch out for him cause he killed Mozart, and he says "Moe who?" 😂

Stranger2Reality

It helps when you're as tall as he is. But that's officially what fans refer to as "the Riker Maneuver". The "Picard Maneuver" is standing up and giving a quick tug on your shirt bottom to straighten it: https://youtu.be/3ar-eJwgTsM

Stranger2Reality

Agreed. Nemesis is a much better movie, IMO. It's only real flaw is that it's kinda recycling plots from other Trek films, but that doesn't really bother me the way it seems to with many Trek fans. I remember when Nemesis came out the sentiment among my Trek friends was that it wasn't good, but I tend to think it's easily the 2nd best TNG movie. Will be interesting to see what Cassie thinks.

Stranger2Reality

Yeah, this movie's main flaw is it's kinda dull. It's not super exciting or interesting, and isn't campy fun either. Like you said, it just felt like a standard episode stretched out to feature film length. It's fine, but it's not terribly memorable.

Clarence Newman

I've always enjoyed this one, but that may be because, at the time it came out, I didn't want to let go of TNG. Cassie feels the same way now, so hopefully that will elevate Nemesis for her. And, of course (though no one's said so and that's because it's a nice little easter egg for Cassie), "that guy" is in it and I want to see her face, probably halfway through the movie, light up when she finally realises who it is.

Clarence Newman

Also, The Sons of Katie Elder (1965) - maybe John Wayne's best western. I'd also throw in Sharky's Machine (1981) with Burt Reynolds. Earl played the senator.

Mark White

I more I think about Nemesis, the more I think my big problem with it, is the ending! If they had gone on to make a fifth TNG movie as planned and gave them the send off they deserved (and got in Picard Season 3) then I would of appreciated Nemesis more than I did. But I guess when you barely break even at the box office, that’s a killer for any movie series!!

ShazD

A really flawed movie where I can't 100% stand behind Picarda reasoning. It really is only 600 people! Also the fact it's only 600 after 300 years makes zero sense anyway.

Philip G.

One step closer to the 2009 Trilogy

V M

I didn't like this movie much. The story was lacking.

Joe

For classic 50's sci-fi, why not do a theme week with "Forbidden Planet", "The Day the Earth Stood Still", and fudge a little and throw in "The Time Machine" (1960) for Clarence (haha).

Clarence Newman

When it comes to Star Trek plot holes, it's always best to apply the logic Captain Kirk used as the Enterprise approached an exact duplicate of Earth in the TOS episode "Miri" - "It seems impossible....but there it is."

V M

I always liked Anthony Zerbe. He's been in a ton of good movies. The Dead Zone, The Matrix 2, See no evil hear no evil, on and on. Good character actor.

ShazD

And Licence to Kill which Cassie has also seen.

Ria Grix

Clearly those two small plots of land that could, at best, only yield enough food for a family of four can in fact sustain a population of 600 on this planet… some kind of super advanced fertiliser I imagine.

Mark Daniels

With the same end for him in this one. They had to have considered that.

Steve Holton

Anthony Zerbe has been very good for many years as a guest actor on TV series. Coincidentally, he has been married for 62 years to the sister of Salome Jens, who also had a prominent role in the Star Trek TNG and Deep Space Nine series.

Chrissonator

He's looking at situations like the Holocaust, etc. for his reasoning... that's literally what the analogy was in this movie.

Chrissonator

Also, if you have perpetual youth, there's not really any need to procreate, since procreation is foremost the continuation of the species.

Chrissonator

You'll have to let me know who "that guy" is after her reaction drops. lol Because even I'm like "who?" lol

ShazD

Um you'd think a lot of people at peak physical fitness and youth would be going at it like rabbits no?

ShazD

The set of the village is one of the worst things about this movie. I wonder if the original set that was destroyed looked any better. Because this looked sub Disney land.

Clarence Newman

You don't have to go too far down the cast list. It's just that it's a pre-fame role and he looks so different than he does now, I think it will take Cassie a while to recognise him. Unless, of course, she reads his name in the opening credits, though she's generally fluffing her pillows at that point.

Clarence Newman

@Chrissonator. The episode is a mirror of the Holocaust, but when Kirk speaks that line, he's on the bridge and all he can see is a planet that is an exact duplicate of Earth. The line simply addresses what most of us are already thinking (both with Miri and Insurrection)...."Well, that seems unlikely."

Clarence Newman

Nemesis has just dropped. See what I mean! That reaction when she recognises Tom Hardy - I love seeing that on Cassie's face!

Joe

I remember Zerbe most from "Harry O" back in the 70s. Seems like he was in everything back then.

Joe

Cassie has mentioned several times that she plans to re-visit TOS and watch a few more episodes. I would not be opposed to that.

xunegrapse

And 'The Omega Man' (1971), an early version of 'I Am Legend' (2007). The later one kept the title of the book.

shireknight

I'm hoping for Charlie X that's one of my favourite Yeoman Rand episodes and Cassie didn't do any of hers if I remember correctly.

Dennis Shogren

I’m a big fan of Dead Zone. Long ago I had a very boring assembly line job, and to pass the time for me and coworker I’d attempt to quote parts of the movie.

Clarence Newman

I'm hoping for any Yeoman Rand episodes. Those are my favourite Yeoman Rand episodes.

John Blosser

Any chance you will want to do a review of Picard, the new continuation? I mean at least the third season, which is basically the 8th season of TNG!
