Hi friends, how are you? I am kind of a struggle bus over here. whats new am I right? UUUGGGHHH always something sick-ie going on I know-so annoying!

In other news BIG week for PIB!!

Finally no more requests for The Searchers! 😂

Mark White

The Searchers!! Bill is going to loose his mind! 😆

Geoff S.

Someone is up late!

Anthony Carlson

Update on my condo: I will officially close on Thursday!!! Home owner here I come! I also saw watching Michigan State win their second straight Big Ten hockey tournament in person over the weekend so here’s to another great season! Go Green! To top it all off: https://youtu.be/JY3Hwni12yM?si=J_nzQ-GSG3sja9Bm

Gray

Wondering if I should give Oppenheimer another chance as I really didn't care for it when I watched it first time round, will give that Cold Mountain another rewatch though when it's up on YT

Rick Rodriguez

Always looking for an excuse to watch The Searchers. AND I haven't seen Oppenheimer yet, so WIN WIN.

Mark White

I know The Searchers isn’t everyone’s favourite Wayne western, but for me it’s his most interesting Character in a western. Not so perfect good guy. He has a edge to this character, a dark past is hinted at. I think there could be a argument for better Wayne movies, but not a more interesting a complex character.

Nim

Win some lose some Cassie. You lost sense and sensibility but won Shakespeare in love. It's funny to see godzilla vs kong is still on.

Clarence Newman

I do worry about you, Cassie. The aliens in War of the Worlds had a more robust immune system than you have. Are you licking the sink or being sneezed on by armless people with red noses? Are you not observing the 5 second rule when you drop food on the floor? I'm just trying to help, because you appear to be the poorliest human being since Doc Holliday and we don't want you turning up for reactions looking like the newscasters on Batman '89. That would make us sad.

Clarence Newman

Sons of Katie Elder is more fun, I think, but The Searchers is probably the most iconic.

Mojo One Thousand

Hopefully "Oppenheimer" is a matinee special for Carly... it's a long one (on the back of "JFK" as well). Otherwise, it may be another outro where there is a Carly-shaped hole in the door from the speedy exit. And, glad you are recovering... doesn't sound great that a trip to a hospital was required.

Richard Maurer

Sounds like whatever bug you picked up in Mexico was no joke. Hope you get well soon.

D

Oppenheimer with Carly is a mistake

Bill Maurer

It's happening !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ted Whalen

Yikes……the souvenir from your Mexico vacation does not sound good at all. I hope that you start to feel better.

Richard Maurer

You know, you watching The Searchers, a movie that my long-lost cousin Bill Maurer has been asking about for a while now, is just encouragement for me to keep requesting Horror of Dracula, right?

Clay F

I like Oppenheimer. The Searchers is on my watchlist. Will be interesting watching MP and the Holy Grail all the way through (I don't think I've ever fully watched it). Spent 8 days in Mexico City in 2022 and didn't get sick (e.g., traveler's diarrhea known as Montezuma's Revenge when visiting Mexico). But the 8 days I spent in India, got traveler's diarrhea (known as Delhi Belly when visiting India), and had taken all the precautions. Knocked me out for 48 hrs in India.

Mike Lemon

Shenanigans! Shenanigans! I declare Shenanigans! Bill gets "his movie" watched without a crushing loss in a poll like Show Me Love (1998) or Indictment: The McMartin Trial (1995). Why? Just because more than three people have seen it? Or is it something more sinister like ... Shenanigans!? (jk) Congratulations Bill.

Richard Maurer

Holy Grail is a breeze as long as you remember that logic and reality are utterly meaningless concepts.

cfb0453 (Chris)

Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God! "THE SEARCHERS ". The greatest western of all time. I think I just wet my pants, or maybe that's the incontinence! I'm very happy Cassie, but what the heck is going on with your health? You really need to take better care of yourself!

Richard Maurer

Hmmmm, that means Horror of Dracula (58) should jump the line and be next - wayyyyyy more people have seen it than have seen Indictment: The McMartin Trial or Show Me Love.

Philip Alan

The Searchers? What's that? I've never seen that written anywhere here or in the comments for the last 10 years. Oppenheimer is great!

Bill Maurer

Gonna throw my support over to you in your "Horror of Dracula" quest. Nice last name

Wesley White

HAHAHA!!!🤣🤣🤣 I love that show "Whose Line Is It Anyway?!" I laugh hysterically every time I watch it, Colin Mochrie is my favorite! Sorry to hear you're sick again Cass, that's even more scarier that you ended up in the ER [vitrual hug🤗] get well soon! I checked and my Pick-A-Flick submission is confirmed, fingers crossed🤞I'm not giving up my pick until it wins lol! I watched your YT edit of "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes" sorry I missed the premiere lol! I left you a nice $5 Super Comment on it😁 And I've submitted my vote on your Top 15 Leftovers Poll and so far I like what's winning right now and I'm already foreshadowing your reaction to the movie and me LMHO (Laughing My Head Off)🤣 Despite some folks here saying that you might not like the movie that's winning the poll right now, I think you might, and can at least appreciate it, and might find some enjoyment in the movie! It was one of the suggestions I gave you if you ever decided to do a whole week of King Arthur movies like you did with Robin Hood a couple years back, that was fun lol! Finally getting back into John Wayne movies, nice👌 Honestly I've never seen "The Searchers", but I've heard of it and I know it's one of my father's favorite John Wayne films! My favorite of his movies is "Chisum" I highly recommend it and I know you'll enjoy it! Get well soon Cassie, love and support, you and Carly are the best, and God bless y'all and the family🥰😇🙏😁🤗😉👍✌🌹

Clarence Newman

No doubt, Richard, but I have to ask something. Is HoD available to stream? I have an app that "literally has every movie and tv show on it" (in brackets because on very rare occasions, there's one it doesn't). Out of morbid curiosity, I looked for it this morning and it isn't on there. Dracula Has Risen is, but that's the only one.

Clarence Newman

As you all know, I rarely push for movies on here, but given Bill's success (not even on a poll, man! High five!), I need to start thinking of one to champion. Ooh. OOH!!

Clarence Newman

Sons of Katie Elder is the greatest western, but I will allow The Searchers because Bill has been campaigning for it since 2007.

shaneth138

Will you be reacting to season 2 of The Last of Us when it comes out in April? I know how much you liked the first season so I’d be curious if you are going to be reacting to it each week or waiting for the entire season to finish?

Clarence Newman

I envisage a poll, maybe at the back end of the year, where all the personal crusades that made it onto a poll only to garner 2% of the vote, end up going head to head. Show Me Love v Horror of Dracula v Cannonball Run v Your Name v Indictment: The McMartin Trial v Top Hat As with most polls, none of us with a vested interest would have any confidence of winning.

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

Hi Cassie, Get well soon! Just asking but, are you planning to react to a new TV series soon? I remember when you asked us for TV show suggestions. Don't worry if you're not, it's your channel and I fully respect that. (There is a new Netflix drama series called Adolescence that is really getting a lot of acclaim)

Richard Maurer

Clarence - Horror of Dracula (58), US title for Dracula (58) is available for streaming on Amazon (also YT, GooglePlay, Apple TV etc). Try searching Dracula (58) if you’re outside the US - like Britain, for example.

MikeLL

Congratulations, pilgram, Western-style, whatever that is! Long, long overdue!

MikeLL

Ha, at least they will be in bed, where it will be easy to fall asleep!

MikeLL

I too wish Cassie started with a more “normal” conventional Wayne Western, but here we are, no need to do any “Searching” any longer. Glad Cassie is finally checking it off her list!

Bert Towle

"Hi de hi de hi de ho" was part of a Cab Calloway song called "Minnie The Moocher" from 1931. It's most contemporary use was in "The Blues Brothers" where that same Cab Calloway stepped out of his movie character and performed it as himself - much to the real delight of all the musicians involved in the film. Now you will have seen John Wayne in a real western. I hope you get to see his grand entrance in "Stagecoach" from 1939 some day. John Ford who directed "The Searchers" also directed "Stagecoach" and several others featuring Wayne including "The Quiet Man" which you enjoyed. "Stagecoach" features some difficult stunts performed or choreographed by stuntman/actor Yakima Canutt including one somewhat re-enacted in "Raiders of the Lost Ark".

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

Enjoy The Searchers (1956) Cassie, it's one of John Ford's most famous westerns. Trivia note: David Lynch's final acting role was as John Ford in Steven Spielberg's The Fabelmans (2022). It's only one scene but you can find it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dk6spjF98No There is also a 3 minute interview with Spielberg talking about his real life meeting with John Ford https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXFyiaRbQ3A

Clarence Newman

That reminds me of Terry-Thomas, which reminds me of It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963). Make a note, Cassandra.

MikeLL

I think for a change of pace, Cassie should watch a great ‘60’s ensemble comedy, like The Russians Are Coming The Russians Are Coming (1966). I might start requesting it every week!

Richard Maurer

No one, including Cassie, is taking Cannonball Run seriously (starting my disinformation campaign early).

MikeLL

Should Monty Python win The 15 poll, it may be needed to counter balance the other two movies, if you know what I mean! What if Children Of Men or Training Day had won? What a week then??

Stuart Guthrie Jr.

Hi Cassie, so sorry you've been sick. Glad you are feeling better.

Clarence Newman

Cassie survived a week where No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood were back to back. She's a tough little trooper.

Mark White

Hang on a minute! Isn’t it the middle of the night in the states right now? Richard, how come you are awake at night? But go quite during the day? Always seam to want a Dracula movie? Do you by any chance sleep in a coffin?! 😆 Do you by any chance feel a burning sensation to light or holy water?! 😆

Richard Maurer

5 second rule? I thought it was the 30 minute rule. Oh well, it’s been working for me so far.

Dean Holt

I would have thought with all the different illnesses you’ve had, your immune system should be stronger that anyones lol. But really sorry to hear your still not feeling well and I hope for a speedy recovery. I have to admit not a fantastic week for me as regards to the movie choices. As I’m not really a fan of western’s, The only good thing in Oppenheimer was the cinematography. I thought it was too long as it just felt like it dragged in lots of places. I also thought the score was too loud as it drowned out the dialogue most of the time (might have just been the IMAX cinema I was in) so I found that to be quite annoying. There’s lots of other things too but they would be spoilers so I’ll just leave it at that. I’m also not a huge fan of Monty Python, I think they have done better thing when they split up. But I wouldn’t normally have a little moan as there’s been other weeks I’ve not been a fan of the picks and I understand that’s how it works out sometimes, but I still think you do a great job at picking various different films hence it’s why I still subscribe. But I was hoping for one or two good films as it’s my birthday on Saturday, so I feel it might be another good time to bring up my idea of an 80s Sci-Fi week. Just trying to guilt you into to doing it 😂😂.

Richard Maurer

I believe that too Clarence, hence the ;-) at the end of my comment - you off your game today? Do I have to write THIS IS A JOKE for you like you were some newb?

cfb0453 (Chris)

How about "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World"? I think that would be right up Cassie and Carly's alley!

Thoko

Oppenheimer is a great movie. But its one of the movies where I have to watch with subtitles because there is so much happening in the dialogue and my ADHD brain loses track of what is being said otherwise

Richard Maurer

Gotta say that movie is a lot funnier if you know who all those people are. Ashleigh Burton did a reaction to that movie and hated it - had no clue who any of the stars were.

Uncle Phoenix

Really hope you feel better.

Clarence Newman

Steady on. The possibility that I didn't get a joke makes me feel like Hauck from Good Morning Vietnam. "Lieutenant Steve! Lieutenant Steve!" The problem is your emojis come out as they're written - ;-) instead of the emoji it represents. I assume that's a winky face but I'm not sure. In this case, it hid from me when I was reading your post.

Daniel Karlsson

Hope you rewatch Inception and Interstellar with Carly some day soon.

Richard Maurer

Mark - Woke up early, having trouble sleeping lately. Are you asking if I’m a vampire? Just come out and say it man! The answer is no, but I was a teenage werewolf. Grew out of it in my mid-twenties..

Clarence Newman

True. It'a great cast but Cassie wouldn't know any of them. Would she even recognise Sid Caesar from Grease?

MikeLL

This is true. She might not recognize many of the comedic stars from Mad, Mad World. It might help if she saw some of their other comedies first, like seeing Carl Reiner (Rob's dad) who is the star of The Russians Are Coming The Russians Are Coming (1966) a great ensemble comedy! Maybe I should start suggesting that?

MikeLL

What? Cassie CAN take it? When did that news start spreading around?? 😉

Bill W

I think it's the career choice. Not to make light of Cassie's illness (which sounds fairly unpleasant to say the least) , but youtubers are the sickest demographic in the world. Just from the ones I follow there seems to be at least 2 every week that are sick, or just coming down with something or just getting over something and have to take "time off".

Clarence Newman

Oh, she can take most things. Then again, I could survive a kick in the nuts from an angry toddler if my life depended on it. Doesn't mean I want to.

Bill W

MikeLL he has many that are rewatchable but I never seem to get tired of Rio Bravo. Nice combination of danger, humor, action, drama...and famous faces. (Btw, I behind you on the Hold Down A African Queen thing).

Mike Lemon

"The problem is your emojis come out as they're written - ;-) " That is called an emoticon. It's a thing we had in the before times, in the long, long ago, in the time before the brain rot of emojis.

Richard Maurer

This may be another one of those movies that, while good, don’t make for good reaction videos. I’ve watched a couple of other reactors do it and I was underwhelmed by the reaction. I guess we’ll see what the sisters can do with it.

Richard Maurer

Maybe a naked Florence Pugh will wake them up, knowing how well they deal with sex scenes.

Choof

So excited for Oppenheimer

Redrum Ritual

She's finally getting around to Oppenheimer? What took so long??

Richard Maurer

I don’t believe that Clarence, I’ve seen you string words together to form meaningful sentences. It’s only your movie choices that make us question your intelligence.

Alex Gorell

Sooo excited for Oppenheimer

cfb0453 (Chris)

I don't think that having intimate knowledge of the comedians and their careers makes any difference. It's a brilliant script, the characters are all relatable and the actors all have great timing. I think Cassie would enjoy it. Maybe Ashleigh just wasn't in the right mood!!!

Clarence Newman

We must also consider the fact that Ashleigh Burton....when compared to Cassie....sucks.

Clarence Newman

You flatter me, sir. There's a sign in my toilet that reads "Don't eat the big white mint."

Thoko

Interesting. I watched Natalie Gold's reaction to Oppenheimer and don't remember being disappointed in the reaction at all. Typically though, I enjoy most reaction videos unless the person watching is talking over so much of the dialogue that they miss important parts of the film. And Natalie does do this occasionally. But I don't remember it being a problem with Oppenheimer

Richard Maurer

(Chris) Ashleigh made comments like “Am I supposed to know who these people are?” I could see Cassie saying the same thing. Without the “Hey! It’s Jonathan Winters!” factor that movie loses a lot of its charm. Ashleigh was noticeably bored during it. Now I’m the first to admit Ashleigh has some bad takes on movies, she gave both Willow and Fellowship of the Ring 3 stars (too many for Willow, too few for Fellowship), but her boredom was a honest reaction, and was tied to her not knowing all the “stars” in the movie, imo.

Keith Brown

"The Searchers" - Now we are in classic westerns times ! The Eastwood and Spaghetti westerns are another era and of film making times !

Dan M

Cassie, I’m really concerned about your super frail immune system. You wound up in the hospital?! I think it’s time for a complete overhaul. Maybe go seek out a good nutritionist to help you come up with a supplement plan. I was so excited and hopeful when March Movie Madness began, but my dreams were quickly squashed when Kansas/Awakenings, my pick to win it all, was eliminated in the first round (what?!?!). I’ve still got some other picks in the running, so all hope is not lost. My hopefuls for the Final Four now are Mississippi (Ole Miss)/Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Kentucky/A Bronx Tale, BYU (how excited are you!?!?)/King Kong, and Kentucky/Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Get ready for a weird and wild ride when you watch Monty Python and the Holy Grail! Just remember, it’s humor that is VERY absurd at times, but there are also hilarious moments. You should recognize John Cleese and Michael Palin from A Fish Called Wanda. Looking forward to the live on the 31st! Please take care of yourself!

Dan M

Hope you have a great birthday, Dean! And I agree with your comments on Oppenheimer.

Ted Whalen

I had a similar experience from an international vacation last year……not fun at all.

Ted Whalen

It’s a mad, mad, mad world is such a good movie (love Jonathan Winters in that movie).

Cole Jennett

My guess is she will put out a reaction every two weeks (for 2 episodes) as the show progresses

Sam Wilson

Cassie, so happy to hear that you're on the mend let's hope the doctors and the good Lord and keep you in the great health! Though I never saw what's My line, I did see Cab Calloway's short film called "Minnie the Moocher" from 1934 where he sang Hidey Hidey Ho. I have to say I'm beyond excited to see that you're watching John Wayne's "The Searchers" , it could quite possibly be the Best Western ever. However I got to warn you in my family John Wayne movies are like potato chips you can't stop at just one!

Sam Wilson

It is absolutely possible that Shirley Temple also sang it as they were out the same time

Robert Jewell

The Searchers! Wow, how'd that amazing film get selected! Hope you like it. It's got real depth. Oh, and stop getting sick. It's like my favorite neighbor getting ill. I'll clean out your garage. You take walks in the park and watch the flowers bloom.

Chris Clarke

Hi Cassie! Is there a mail opening live soon? The latest parcel should at least be in the country by now. 🙂 Just watched your Wrath of Khan reaction again, and I've reached the point where I'm quoting your comments along with the film dialogue. 😂 "Admiral! Admiral..." And I second Dan M's suggestion: time to get your immune system bolstered permanently!🙂

Rick Williams

You need to stop traveling so much. Every time you go some where you get sick. Just stay home. You can plant a vegetable garden and eat fresh healthy vegetables.

David Bockly

I think we also pray a little harder that Cassie can stay healthy, as she had so much joy to our lives

Louisa Moritz

Cassie if you liked The searchers, you may also want to check out El Dorado, the mcclintocks, and The train robbers all great westerns from John Wayne

YodatheHobbit

I was in the audience of Whose Line Is It Anyways in 2 episodes filmed in 2014! I really do hope you're able to stop getting sick almost every month some time. I used to be like that, years ago. I know with kids in school I'm sure that's much harder said than done. When I do get sick, I still usually end up giving it to my mom since we live together.

MikeLL

That is a very good point. After Cassie has seen a genuine John Wayne Western, it will be time for Cassie to see John Wayne in a movie NOT directed by John Ford! Thanks!

MikeLL

Thanks, Bill W, it wasn't really a thing, just something I had to learn and go through. I'm big behind you on Rio Bravo, and it's "remake", El Dorado. I even like Red River more than I like The Searchers, but there is no denying The Searchers iconic status as "the" great Western.

Mark White

I’m going to make a bold bet here and say if Cassie watches a lot more Wayne westerns in the future and I hope she does, I think Rio Bravo might be her Favourite. It’s just got the right combinations of characters and charm she would love.

Mark White

I only have one problem with SoKE, I haven’t seen it since I was about 12! So I can’t make a good case for it. But I trust your judgment it would be a good one for Cassie too.

Mark White

Mike I will of course support you in your quest for your favourite movies, only problem is I haven’t seen any of them!! They are on my list, but since I became a member on PiB I feel my list is grown nearly as long as Cassie’s 😆 I’ve still got many of Clarence’s, Richards and Clays favourites to watch as well.

Mark White

Hi Cassie, it sounds like you got some some super nasty bug there. You are once again ahead of me in the sickness record! I hope you feel better soon. What another amazing week of movies ahead. Oppenheimer, that’s a biggie to tick off your list. The searchers, massive nostalgia for me. It’s was always on at Xmas growing up in the 80s. I think it’s one of Wayne’s best. He has a more complex character than In other Wayne westerns. But I do think there are other Wayne westerns you would prefer like Rio Bravo. It’s looking like the holy grail will win. It’s typical British humour! Silly, bonkers and brilliant all at the same time. Thank you for just being you and everything PiB, it really makes a big difference to me. You are the best ❤️

Neil Varma

Get well soon 🤞🙏❤️

Brian's Dog

The Searchers had an amazing new 4K scan released in Dec. It's absolutely stunning and will blow you away.

TheSingulatarian

That's it we are putting Cassie in a plastic bubble.

2-Can

She can see Cab Calloway sing it if she also watches the 3rd-place Leftover.

TheSingulatarian

I don't know if that has aged all that well. Nothing offensive just doesn't hit the same now that the cold war is over.

TheSingulatarian

I used to get sick all the time. I don't anymore as I avoid all human contact.

Jamie

Bit rude talking about someone's health. Let their doctors take care of that, yeah? You aren't their mum, or even their friend.

Brian Wood

Thank you Cassie for The Searchers. As a fan of John Wayne and the western genre itself, I can say that this is AFI #1 western of all time, but also Wayne's greatest performance, for which he should received a oscar.

Mike Lemon

@Mark- Indictment: The McMartin Trial (1995) has a couple uploads on YouTube, there is no stopping you from watching the true story of the longest trial in U.S. history. Bjorn's movie, Show Me Love, I had to go sailing for, but it might be streaming somewhere. Then you can swing by Horror of Dracula and Cannonball Run later. You can be all done by the weekend. No excuses. :-)

Geoff S.

I think a movie Cassie and Carly would love is A Long Hot Summer with Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward

Just Plain Bob

This is gonna be a great reaction week. “The Searchers” has to be on every western fan’s top 10 list and “Oppenheimer” is a modern day classic. As for “Monty Python and the Holy Grail”, it may be my favorite comedy of all time. Get well, Cassie, and we’ll see you at the movies soon!

Clarence Newman

We've been trying to get a Newman/McQueen poll going for a while, Geoff, so answer me this. If you had to choose one for Cassie out of Long Hot Summer and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (both 1958).....?

Richard Maurer

Pretty sure Show Me Love is streaming on Amazon. Or at least it was a couple of months ago.

Clarence Newman

She can see Cab Calloway play poker with Steve McQueen if she watches The Cincinnati Kid (1965).

Joe

Today is my Birthday..so Cassie should do a 50s sci-fi poll first.😉

Joe

Cassie won't know any of the Monty Python cast either, for that matter most all older movies. Hope that doesn't hang her up, it really shouldn't.

Stephen Dias

You know, I was never a big fan of Westerns, but I recently checked out "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" and now, I want to see more, so I'm excited for "The Searchers."

Michael West

great week of movies. So glad you are doing The Searchers. Hopefully we haven't hyped it too much....lol.

Stick Figure Studios

OPPENHEIMER is a good film (possibly Nolan's best) and as it is looking like MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL is going to win the poll, that should be a fun reaction, but the real winner this week is the John Wayne / John Ford masterpiece THE SEARCHERS. This viewing is long overdue. :-)

Joe

Chill out Jamie...Cassie brings this up, right? Patrons been talking about it for years.

Stick Figure Studios

I would have liked to see her start with STAGECOACH or RED RIVER first, but I'm totally fine with her doing THE SEARCHES.

Joe

I think Cassie will find Oppy mostly boring tbh. Without Costner, would she have enjoyed the JFK movie, I wonder.

Dean Holt

Thanks for the birthday wishes Cassie, Also thanks for considering doing the poll, Tbh I’d be happy if you just reacted to The Last StarFighter. But I’ve picked 12 films (no horror films I thought I’d leave them until October) that a liked in the 80s and I still enjoy watching them now. The Last StarFighter InnerSpace (Dennis Quaid & Meg Ryan) Flight of the Navigator  Batteries not Included (Spielberg film) Escape from New York (Kurt Russell) Enemy Mine (Dennis Quaid & Louis Gossett Jr.) Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (Rick Moranis) Time Bandits  Short Circuit Outland (Sean Connery) War Games My Stepmother is an Alien (Kim Basinger & Dan Aykroyd) Thanks again Cassie

Dean Holt

Oh no I think I’ve started something 😂😂, But happy birthday Joe.

2-Can

Cassie - when you watch MP and the Holy Grail - it is important that you pay attention to the opening credits.

Joe

Be curious how "The Searchers" hits with Cassie. Hope she gets to "Shane" one day, that's the GOAT in my book.

Stick Figure Studios

She seems to dig most of the westerns she watches, so I can see her liking it. Same with SHANE if we ever get to it.

Milton William Burray

I'll sometimes treat myself to a double bill of Trancers I & II on my birthday. They're camp low-budget brilliance

Mark White

Cassie, “Flight of the Navigator” is a Disney movie and a dame good one! I went to see it with my mum when I was 9. It is one of my fondest memories of my childhood. A great kids adventure. I think your boys would enjoy watching too.

MikeLL

I watch it every now and again. It's still funny, and I think Cassie will really like the ending.

Dean Holt

Mark, I have a similar memory with The Last Starfighter. But I’d second that about Flight of the Navigator I think Cassie’s kids would love it. It’s also got a very good score as it’s sound really unique, it will also get stuck in your head 😂😂.

Joe

I watched Natalie just once back in 2021...never again (haha). Oppy is a movie Cassie will find mostly boring IMO.

Just Plain Bob

I first saw “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” sitting alone at my great uncle’s kitchen table on a rabbit eared 16” tv when I was about ten years old. I had never particularly been a fan of westerns before that and I have no idea what drew me in to watch it in the first place. But once it started, I was completely enthralled. I’d never seen anything like it and loved it immediately. Watching TGTBATU made me a fan of westerns forever after. John Wayne, who I had previously ignored as an actor, suddenly became one of my favorites - even though the westerns he made could not have been more different than the spaghetti westerns I first came to love. And, of all the great John Wayne westerns, “The Searchers” is the best (and that’s a high bar). You’re in for a treat, Stephen.

Stranger2Reality

I think Oppenheimer is a great choice for Cassie alone, but together with Carly I think they'll spend too much time talking about all the actors they recognize from other things or trying to figure out where they know various people from that they'll miss a lot of what is being said. And even though Oppenheimer is a long movie, it doesn't have a whole lot of just empty, wasted space in, so if you're not paying attention you can get lost quite easily. I just worry that they're going to miss a lot of what is going on.

Joe

Oh, she will do S2 for sure. Copyright is a big concern when it first airs.

Stranger2Reality

The first time I saw Oppenheimer it was in IMAX and I too thought the audio mix sucked, but then I saw it in a normal theater and that wasn't a problem anymore. I've also watched it at home and the audio is fine, so I think it was just an IMAX issue.

Dean Holt

S2R, ok thanks I might give it another watch when she reacts to it, but I’m very hit and miss when it comes to Nolan. As I wasn’t really a fan of Interstellar or Tenet. But I did like Dunkirk & Inception, obviously also a fan of the Batman trilogy.

Dan M

Jamie, since when is it rude to be concerned about someone’s health? And it’s not like I was asking her personal questions about her health or prying into her private life. She mentioned she was sick and wound up in the hospital, and I merely expressed my concerns because she gets sick a lot, and I made a suggestion that might help strengthen her immune system.

Cassie - I do hope you get well soon! We're all here for you. If you need time off, please do take it! Utah is a bit of a drive and the chicken soup would be very cold, but we can always send cookies. 😁 Thank you for these—especially the long-awaited THE SEARCHERS (John Ford's Roman Catholic allegory of flaw human beings and the struggle of life transposed to a western) and OPPENHEIMER! As for our likely Leftovers winner, Monty Python and the Holy Grail is a longtime fave. Pure parody at it's best, albeit from a circa mid-1970s British perspective (this movie would most likely never get made in the present UK, and if it were, it'd be banned/cancelled/burried by govt censors).

Stick Figure Studios

THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY Is my second favorite western of all time after UNFORGIVEN. I also used to hate the genre, but ultimately became a huge fan. Another one you should consider checking out is HIGH NOON with Gary Cooper.

Stick Figure Studios

I think Cassie would enjoy Howard Hawks' RED RIVER (probably RIO BRAVO too, but I'm not pushing for that one as much as I'm not as big of a fan of it as most are; I prefer the movie that it was made in response to: HIGH NOON).

Cole Jennett

@Joe I agree with you on Natalie Gold (talks over dialogue a frustrating amount) but not about Oppenheimer.

Stick Figure Studios

I think she would have enjoyed JFK even if Costner were not in it because she was totally into the drama, the filmmaking and all of the details that didn't add up. Generally speaking, I don't find Cassie gets bored by any good movie (She was bored by HOWARD THE DUCK and couldn't wait for it to be over, but that is understandable). She's a very open-minded viewer. I think people tend to make the mistake of thinking that because a movie is not constantly *sensational* that it must be "boring," but what one person finds boring another person can find fascinating and engaging.

Clarence Newman

Has there ever been a better music score than in Good, The Bad & The Ugly? The bit where Tuco is running round the graves is epic enough, but then we get the final duel. I mean, Clint, Lee Van Cleef and Eli Wallach barely do anything in that scene except look at each other, but the music makes it riveting from start to finish.

Rose

Take time for yourself Cassie and get checked out with your doc. Listen to your body. Take care!

Stick Figure Studios

I've yet to see Cassie and Carly really be bored by a movie that they watch together. Both of them, especially Cassie, are pretty open-minded viewers to whatever a film has to offer. They don't need the stimulation of a relentlessly sensational film to hold their interest like a lot of people do (granted, Cassie was bored during HOWARD THE DUCK and just wanted it to end, but that's understandable). I think people often make the mistake of thinking that because they were bored by a movie that other people will be, but what one person finds boring and other person can find eminently fascinating and engaging. I see them actually liking OPPENHEIMER.

Uncle Phoenix

BTW: looks like Utah St. isn’t going to bring it home this year. So my New Hope is Maryland and Tennessee. Mostly because Wind River and Pitch Black aren’t likely to win any polls here; and I think that they are both worthy of our time.

Just Plain Bob

As a lifelong resident of Tennessee and fifty year fan of all things Vols, welcome aboard! Also, I’d love to see a reaction to “Pitch Black” and think this is likely to be the only opportunity to see one.

JohnnyUtah

Oppenheimer is so well done and I can't wait to see the reactions. It's no INTERSTELLAR but I guess I'll stop beating that dead horse... for now...

Just Plain Bob

Couldn’t agree more about the score to “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.” Perfect marriage of score to movie. And Ennio Morricone is an absolute legend. Came across this a few years ago - the Danish National Symphony Orchestra performing the main theme. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=enuOArEfqGo

Richard Maurer

Joe - there were no stars in Holy Grail, only cast members. Mad, etc., World was nothing but mid-level stars.

Richard Maurer

I’ve watched multiple reactions to movies that require the reactor to pay attention to what’s happening in the film, films like Oppenheimer, Interstellar, Dark City, 2001 - I like all these movies, to varying degrees. But all of the reactions I’ve seen to them went one of two ways. Either the reactor(s) were too busy “performing” and had trouble figuring out what was happening, or they paid attention to what was happening and weren’t as entertaining to the audience as they normally would be.

Clay F

Wind River could win a poll, depending on the other choices in the poll. But agree I wouldn't count on it. Getting Wind Wiver now in this March Madness may be more likely, but Maryland (4) has to beat both Florida (1) and Texas Tech (3). By the way, I saw Wind River in the theater when released and liked it.

Clay F

I have been wanting to watch The Searchers and thus glad will get a reaction. Hopefully, now the cries for a John Wayne western poll by some patrons (which I was agreeable to) will now be deflated. John Wayne movies that I remember watching: The Cowboys (1972) (watched multiple times as a kid), True Grit (1969), The Longest Day (1962) (don't remember a lot), The Sons of Katie Elder (1965), and recently The Quiet Man (1952). She reacted to the John Wayne non-western The Quiet Man in which the John Wayne character (Sean) throws his wife across the room with implication in the movie that is acceptable behavior. Also, the Irish community in the movie found it acceptable behavior to beat your wife with a stick. "Here's a good stick, to beat the lovely lady." Sean: "Thanks"

JULIE

Can you keep the rankings next to the school names throughout the bracket?

Byrd N. Hand

Yes, she's long overdue for "Holy Grail." I believe she's one of the only major reactors who still hasn't seen it at this point. Hopefully it leads her down the Monty Python (killer) rabbit hole (she really liked "A Fish Called Wanda," so there's hope). 🤞

Mark White

I agree Stick, I think Cassie enjoys a good Drama. I know I keep mentioning it but I really would like to see Cassie watch “The Insider” Very good Drama/true story

TheSingulatarian

The las thing Cassie needs to add to her list of injury and illness is a Moose bite. They can be very nasty.

Mark White

Dean that score is one of my favourite 80’s sounds. It’s so heavily synthesised. A few years ago I looked up the composer and found out to my shock! It was Alan Silvestri. He has done some big orchestral pieces including Avengers movies. So it’s really cool to see he can turn his hand so some great 80’s synth music.

Choof

Hello Cassie, if you see this I wanted to let you know they just announced Patrick Stewart will be in the next avengers movie releasing next year And Ian Mackellan now. Possibly McAvoy and Fassbender as well And Alan cumming as nightcrawler, and the original mystique and now James Marsden as cyclops too, this entire cast needs to be brought up on the next popcorn to go episode haha

bgb1975 (Brian)

Sad to hear that you're still feeling under the weather, Cassie. Whose Line is it Anyway can be a riot! I really like the old British version better than the new version, though. Ryan and Colin are comic geniuses.

Above Average Dave

Newman is good in CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF but Elizabeth Taylor owns that movie and should've won an Oscar. Speaking of which, can we get a groundswell for GIANT? Rock Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor and James Dean ALL with Oscar-worthy performances.

🚩

Hope Cassie is better soon

Above Average Dave

UNFORGIVEN has gone to the top of my list, as well. a few others aside from those two and those we've already seen on the channel (off the top of my head—I'm sure I'm missing a few good ones): HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER FORT APACHE HELL OR HIGH WATER ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST THE PROFESSIONALS EL DORADO LITTLE BIG MAN WIND RIVER SHE WORE A YELLOW RIBBON THE SHOOTIST THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE RIO BRAVO THE COWBOYS PALE RIDER THE TREASURE OF SIERRA MADRE RED RIVER WINCHESTER 73 HOSTILES SHANE I also think the TV series JUSTIFIED is basically 6 great Westerns (one for each season) all set in the South (each season, but really hits its stride seasons 2-6). The same could be said for LONGMIRE, though that's set in Wyoming.

Sam R.

Hope you are feeling and getting better everyday🥰🙏 . Auburn Blazing Saddles coming in strong , I think you'd enjoy 9 to 5 more beecauuse well if you know you know 😂😂😂 and hope either the professional or the book of eli wins 2 great movies. also A Bronx tale Great movie and I would take either Pitch black or invasion of the body snatchers havent seen that in 35 years Freaky 😁 Love you hope you and Carly are with us for many more years.

Clarence Newman

OK, we need to make a rule that no list of great westerns can be posted without Sons of Katie Elder. It's making me very sad.

Rose

Great list Dave! My dad has a fondness for “Shane” and when “How the West Was Won” had its initial release in Manila he went to see it in Cinerama. He remembers the lines on the screen - and that’s one of his favorite westerns and movie-going experience. Can’t wait for the Cinerama Dome and former ArcLight to reopen in Hollywood this year. I have fond memories having to park at the Arclight for work and seeing Scott Caan there.

Clarence Newman

High Noon, though. If we tell Cassie it's got Grace Kelly in it, she'll come running.

Doc Larry

I hope you’re feeling better. Sometimes there are cycles with illness and they’re hard to break. I can’t give you any medical advice because that would be unethical however listen to your doctors. There is no such thing as too many questions about yourHealth. On a different topic I found this really good snack toasted coconut marshmallows when you’re feeling better you should give it a try. Fun to eat when you’re watching a movie.

Richard Maurer

Clarence - It might be the best score - if Howard Shore had never done the score for The Lord of the Rings. Also, Bernard Herrmann would like a word.

Rose

My dad loves TGTBTU soundtrack (Eli Wallach is hilarious in that graveyard scene + the final shootout). My dad’s favorite Morricone song is Once Upon a Time in the West Theme followed by The Mission (Gabriel’s Oboe).

Steve Holton

Honorable ethics Doc Larry! And great advice about asking medical questions. Toasted coconut marshmallows complete a sage post. 👍

Of course, if we're talking great movie scores, two out of four lads from Liverpool would like their beers to be held while they bust out some righteous Hard Day's Night.

🚩

Ah, spaghetti westerns. They call me Trinity! Who here has heard of that one?

I wondered if there was a familial connection or just an unusual coincidence. I was going to change my name to 🚩Maurer at one point. I just want to belong!!

Monty Python’s Humor, John Wayne’s Americanness… and never the twain shall meet… Unless you put an Atomic Bomb between them. (Yep… that’s the only way it could work. Brilliant intuition Cassie. ;-) The Searchers (Finally indeed :-) & Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Only one other thing comes to mind that needs to be said now… That which we are about to receive, we thank thee, O Lord… and that goes double for you, Cassie. Thank You, Thank You. 🙏 😉

Bert Towle

I've heard good Scotch can turn one's body into a hostile environment for many common viruses.

Bert Towle

McClintock! is also a John Wayne western that's like the 11 year anniversary of The Quiet Man - also with Maureen O'Hara. Cassie would enjoy that one too.

Larry Darrell

I wouldn’t mind seeing a Composer Crossroads/Devil went down to Georgia, Battle for your Soul Playoff between Ennio Morricone and Bernard Herrmann. Howard Shore could referee. His work with David Cronenberg more than qualifies him to fill in for the Devil. ;-)

Larry Darrell

It’s Rio Bravo (1959) all the way for me. I like High Noon (1952), but Rio Bravo is just so much more fun. Perfect Cast and Perfect Directing by Howard Hawks. And it really is one of the best Hangout films.

Chris Thom

Mmmm Honey Bunches of Outs. I've been having that every day lately. So good. Glad that you're doing Oppenheimer! Hope you get a second wind and a lion's share of health and vitality and kick a-- immune system going...and also that you don't totally abandon Severance. It's getting really juicy/mind bendy again! Second season finale was amazing.

Chris Thom

It's unethical to give advice about the immune system? Is everyone's really that different?

Chris Thom

My first thought was that weird Betty Boop short they always play at Halloween.

🚩

I've never seen The Searchers but I will watch Cassie's YT edit reaction.

MikeLL

The Quiet Man did take place in the 1920's. Times, indeed, have changed. And no. Once we have some Western Wayne, we of course will want more.

Bill Maurer

Been a very, very busy day at work or I would have posted more. Oppenheimer: I loved it. Great work by Nolan, Murphy, Blunt, Damon and Downey Jr. One thing that helped me out is when the film is in color, it shows the point of view or Oppenheimer/Murphy. When the film is in black & white, it is the the viewpoint of Straus/Downey Jr. The Searchers: Finally. Thanks Cassie!!! You said you would watch it and you did. True to your word. Thanks !! Filmed in Alberta (you will know which part(s) and Monument Valley Arizona/Utah. Arguably one of the best Westerns ever or at the top of every list. Inspired so many directors ( Lean, Spielberg, Scorsese) Hope you all enjoy. I just spent the $$$ for a 4K DVD player and my movie I ordered was The Searchers and then Oppenheimer

Catherine LW

It’s a tv mini series, but I think the best western is Lonesome Dove and Cassie would love it. 🕊️

Steve Holton

@Chris Doc Larry is a medical doctor, and Cassie is not his patient, so best ethics are not to comment on her care. True, doctors can dispense general recommendations to the public on YouTube and the like, but best not to diagnose or make recommendations to someone not under your care.

Above Average Dave

Oh my goodness - your Dad and my Dad had similar experiences in different lives, Rose, albeit not in Manila for my Dad😁 He went with a couple of my uncles. One of them told me once while we were watching a movie on TV and I commented on the actress being "gorgeous" (I was 14), he said, "That babe? She's a half-pound of unsliced bologna compared to Claudia Cardinale in Once Upon a Time in the West!" I didn't see Claudia Cardinale or the movie until several years later but when I did 1) I agreed with him on Claudia Cardinale, but, 2) to this day I am still trying to figure out where the bologna analogy came from 🤣

Larry Darrell

You just pushed me over the edge. I gotta buy the 4K too. Saw some screenshots earlier and I’ve been holding out for a while, but now’s the time… I want it. The day has arrived. Enjoy Bill.

Bill Maurer

Do it. 4K has my seal of approval. I watched Edge of Tomorrow on it and it looks great. I bought the Panasonic DP-UB820-K from Amazon. I am a Samsung guy but the reviews I read said Panasonic was the better option and I concur

Chris Thom

Personally think it might be better to just watch it at home and take a break halfway through.

Chris Thom

Could be being in the public eye. For some it might be a dream come true. For others it could be a bit of a nightmare. The constant public speaking involved.

Philip Alan

Nolan just has a way with building this fantastic tension in all his movies. I love it.

Philip Alan

I forgot to mention this: My niece is in Oppenheimer. She plays his grown daughter at the end of the movie! Proud Uncle!

JohnnyUtah

He's truly incredible. I saw Tenet in 2020 when nobody was going to theaters, I went when there was a brief window of IMAX opening. It was such a moment in time.

Larry Darrell

We are the same. I bought the Panasonic 820 Christmas before last to go with my Samsung TV. All the reviews for Panasonic sold me on it. Best for what I needed. It’s been terrific. I was holding out on 4K for a long time, because I could never convince myself it was worth it. Regular Blu-rays still look great and the price of 4K discs were always too high. Then, Black Friday before last, 4K discs went on a crazy sale. I figured if I was ever going to upgrade, it would suck to miss a sale like that. There was a ton of Classics for like 10 to 12 bucks. I spent WAY too much, and I hadn’t even bought a player yet. I’m sold on 4K. I’ve bought so many now, that I’m trying to be selective. Price, Classicness and Specialness to me, are my main factors. The Searchers doesn’t do well in price, but the other two factors make up for it. Review per Blu-ray.com, calls it an “absolutely must own Blu-ray release.” Sold. I’ve been most surprised by 80s films. Older Classics I expected to look increasingly better anyways and newer films I expected to look awesome, because they are new. But some films from the 80s, caught me off guard... Real Genius (1985) The Goonies (1985) Batman (1989) & Returns (1992) Indiana Jones Trilogy Crazy Crystal Clear.

Larry Darrell

I concur with your Dad’s assessment of Claudia Cardinale. More evidence to support… 8 1/2 (1963) The Leopard (1963)

Braden Derksen

Dear Cassie. I have been watching you for a long while now and greatly appreciate the love you have for story telling and your willingness to dive in and embrace what stories have to tell. I feel at this point that it would be a crime to move on from Gene Hackman without watching "The Quick and The Dead". For a man I hardly knew (having not grown up on his older films) this one always blew me away as he steals the show among so many other great actors and actresses. Just my gracious and humble request for you to watch. I do not think you would be disappointed. Thanks for listening!

Chris Thom

That's really cool. I've always been curious if most actors have to move to LA or NYC to work? Or I guess now it's Georgia or Vancouver too.

Chris Thom

How are the prices for 4K. Are they significantly more expensive than Blue Ray?

Bill Maurer

Comparable. A few dollars more, but you can always wait for a sale. I think the dozen or so 4K DVDs that I have are around $18 , plus they all have a Blu Ray disk with it, separately that is

Larry Darrell

Alex Tan

Cassie, I'm looking forward to Oppenheimer (2023). I've been suggesting that movie to you & Carly, ever since the both of you watched Barbie (2023).

🚩

I was wondering if Doc Larry was a real doctor. Doc Larry: Can I borrow 100k? :P

D

Like Stranger2Reality mentioned, I think this should be a Cassie-only reaction. I have a feeling this will be a bit like their Shaun Of The Dead reaction. But if Carly wants to watch too, who am I to argue?

Clarence Newman

I fully support Braden's gracious and humble request. Quick and the Dead is a great little western, with fine performances from Sharon Stone, Russell Crowe, Leonardio DiCaprio, Russell Crowe, Gene Hackman, Gary Sinise, Russell Crowe and Leonardo DiCaprio. That is far too many of your favourite actors to pass up!

MikeLL

I think it is a hard choice between Rio Bravo and it's "remake", El Dorado. I'm also jonesing for Cassie to watch the Wayne/Stewart/Ford collaboration The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.
