Hello Lovahs,

I have been trying to put up this post for days but I was trying to figure out a watch- along we could do for V-day and the schedule! My brother and his wife and baby also surprised up with a trip here from Montana and it has been so fun having their sweet baby in the house, staying up way too late playing games, and doing their "must eat utah crawl"!

Ok so this week, finishing up True Detective, Our first Bond (yes I know it wasn't the winner but you know how I love a release order) and It Could Happen To You! You see, I have seen A lot of chick flicks so this one was an older, less known one? A bunch of people suggested when the lotto was super high a while back and it looks so sweet!

Ok for Valentines Day I want to do a reaction/live watch along to a romantic movie, I want to do one I have seen before because then I can chat and stuff as well! I am thinking About Time but my mind could be changed? MARK YOUR CALENDARS FEBRUARY 13TH! I am so excited, get your popcorn and chocolates, its going to be fun!

I also have to change the date of the POPPIES 23! I am sorry to do that, but it was a must. Carly is waiting to hear back from her boss, but should be the first Saturday in March. More time to plan all the fun things though! It's going to be even bigger and better than last year.

Did January go soooo sllloowww for you or so fast this year? Are you guys Valentines Lovers or Haters (pink nail polish like me or black like Carly) you know? haha tell me in the comments!

Cassie

Michael Lynch

I love the movie it could happen to you.

aarswft

I cast as many votes as possible for About Time.

Michael Lynch

One of Nicholas cages, more subdued, normal acting jobs.

Sahitya

So is RRR not this week?

brooke atkins

I despise Valentine’s Day!! I hated it when I was in a relationship too. Lol just not a real holiday to me and a lot of other people. I don’t like love stories and rom coms so I’ll probably be skipping most of this months uploads. Except for footloose of course. One of my childhood favs. The poppies should be fun again this year. When is October again?? 🤣🤣 sorry Cassie. I just love scary movies so I’m ready for October. Can’t we just skip February completely. Plus it’s the coldest month of the year which is just miserable. Come on summer!! I’m tired of being cold all the time. 🥶

Ria Grix

When you said V-Day All I could think of was that tv series from the 80s ‘V’… I was like, that’s an odd one, watching V…. Oooh… ok VALENTINE… yep, that makes more sense.

Richard Bourne

From Russia with Love was Sean Connery's favorite. It also has the first appearance of Q who gives Bond a brief case with hidden gadgets in it and an AR-7 rifle. Robert Shaw from Jaws and The Sting is in this and a total badass in his younger days.

Timothy Roberts

About Time please. One of my favorite movies.

James UK

From Russia with Love is a great way to start Bond.

William Bryan

My Bloody Valentine 3-D

Dazman

Not watching Dr No?! One vote difference! The casino introduction, Sylvia Trench, PPK, Felix. The first Bond! Nooooooooooooo

Celeste McAllister

For V day I have 'Moonstruck' 'You've got Mail' 'Crazy Rich Asians' 'When Harry Met Sally'..with the exception of a some good days,January kinda dragged on for myself it was the last month of my 20's,OMG I turned 30 last night! 😁😢

Jaccob Cortes

Will there be a Black History month poll for Feb?

Cole Jennett

The idea I think is for it to be one she can chat with us while watching, and she would want to pay full attention to a movie she hasn’t seen before.

Cole Jennett

Love About Time, such an underrated, underwatched movie🥰

Tom

From Russia with Love is great but Dr No is the first proper Bond movie.

Cliff Endicott

"About Time" is one of my all time favorites - but I don't think Cassie is ever going to do it for the channel because it's one of HER favorites too. "It Can Happen To You" is a decent movie (with some painful parts) but I am going to keep lobbying for "The Sure Thing". No reactors are doing it, and it's an all time classic rom-com.

Odd Thomas

A better Nicolas Cage romance is City of Angels with Meg Ryan

djKENTO

From Russia with Love isn’t the first bond film tho… Dr No is

Jess Henshall

I love Valentine’s Day but me and my partner don’t celebrate it. We’re of the opinion that you shouldn’t just have one day of the year where you show your partner you love them. It should be a year long thing.

Kelly Marie

Yay for rom-coms!!! Finally, movies more in one of my favorite genres! ❤️ I think Cassie will love "It Could Happen to You," such a sweet movie and one of Nicholas Cage's better drama/comedy/romance movies.

James1035

No surprise to me a romantic like you loves Valentines Day, but I’m with Carly on that one. It’s too bad that you aren’t going to watch Dr No as well, but From Russia with Love is one of the best Bond movies in the franchise. It Could Happen to You was one of the few romantic movies I’ve seen before and I think you will really enjoy that one as well. A surprise to no one that knows me I haven’t seen About Time.

Stick Figure Studios

Even though I was pulling for DR. NO as your first introduction to Bond, I'm actually not as disappointed by the development of you starting with FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE as I thought I'd be. It's a terrific movie and not at all a bad place to begin with Bond (I'm mostly just glad you're not starting with GOLDFINGER; it's arguably the greatest Bond film of all and you really need to work up to it). It will be interesting for you to see how this series evolves. I'm still hopeful that if you enjoy it (which I believe you will), you'll go back to the very first one and see how it all started. Either way, this is going to be quite a journey. Looking forward to it.

Cole Jennett

I’d pick Notting Hill probably first, but am pretty happy with About Time. She does love Rachel McAdams, and it’s an underrated movie I think.

zynjams

oooooooooooooooooh it could happen to you ooooooooooooooh I LOVE THAT MOVIE!!!!!!!!

Cole Jennett

I’m hoping it will get more exposure as it deserves to be more well known imo

KauaiKeith

Really enjoying the True Detective series. I'm a true Bond fan and am glad you are sampling the earlirt Bonds but in doing so you will come to appreciate how great Daniel Craig is in the role.

Brian McGovern

I am a Valentine Day hater. I have never had anyone to share it with. At first it was more of an issue of me being too shy to ever ask a girl out on a date. I did once and got rejected which was EXACLY what I had always feared. Now I see it more as a choice. I believe I am not the sort of person who can share his life with another person. I wish I wasn’t, but that is how my life has progressed. Well, now that I have probably shared too much about myself, I think I will sign off.

KauaiKeith

BTW, if you like true crime movies, can't wait until you watch Zodiac! All true!

Stick Figure Studios

Indeed. I'd still love for her to eventually see how it all began, but you really can't go wrong with FRWL.

Kelly Marie

I love the idea of a live watch-along. About Time is a cute movie, but I feel there are better ones, like Bridget Jone's Diary, The Proposal, Sweet Home Alabama, The Wedding Singer, What Women Want, and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. Curious why the movie "Valentine's Day" was not an option since it has the holiday in its name! 😉

Stick Figure Studios

Be patient, my friend. If she loves FRWL (which I think she will), she may yet go back to the beginning.

Stick Figure Studios

DR. NO started it all, but they were still figuring things out how to make these movies. By FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE they nailed down a lot of the formula and by GOLDFINGER that formula hit critical mass.

Dazman

She may indeed! Though it would mess with her release order philosophy (hehe). She had hinted she would watch all three. I do think the intro to the man himself is stronger in Dr No - apparently the Sylvia Trench character was going to be a running gag.

Trevor Rotan

If you wanted to go with the “first bond” It was Dr. NO.

Matt Rose

Trench was indeed meant to be a recurring character, but that went out the window when Guy Hamilton came in to direct GOLDFINGER.

Richard Bourne

Goldfinger was the first Bond movie where the formula was fully established including the music.

Stick Figure Studios

I agree that Connery's intro in DR. NO is stronger (it's really one of the greatest character reveals in the history of cinema), but you have to admit that his "intro" in FRWL is very clever.

Gábor Árki

That's what I'm most sad about. The slow character reveal in Dr No is really great, while there isn't really such in FRWL.

Maria Soberanis

Love St. Valentine's Day. Took Valentine as my saints name.

Thomas Williamson

"It Could Happen To You" is phenomenal. You'll love it.

Mike LL

So happy you are watching Bond and starting with one of the best films in the franchise. You are too good to us, Cassie!

Dazman

I also like the way it introduces his dynamic with M and Moneypenny. I want to watch it now!

Stick Figure Studios

But it didn't win. It lost by one point. FRWL actually won. That's why she's doing it first. We may still get DR. NO, just not in perfect release order.

James1035

True his reveal is great in Dr No. From that scene forward you know Connery owns that role.

Adam Hendry

Went fast for me, as I had knee surgery on the 16th of January. So the month went quick as I was off work until yesterday, lol.

Celeste McAllister

'It Could Happen to You' starring Bridget Fonda daughter of Peter Fonda, granddaughter of Henry Fonda,Jane's niece..

kaiielle

For a live watchalong, I'd prefer watching a movie that you've already seen, especially if you plan on interacting with chat during it. But something you haven't seen could also be fun, but then I would want you to naturally pay attention to the movie. About Time sounds like a super fun movie to watch with you to fulfill the former, and it's been a while since I've seen it myself! Going to be stocking up on chocolate over here for Love Week! 💞

James1035

Yeah I agree. We are still getting two of the best Bond movies in the franchise reacted to. That’s a win.

Rick Moreno

Cassie, looking forward to your foray into the Bond movies! I sent you an ebook on Amazon that may help fill in the gaps on the ones you don’t watch! Check your gmail! 😊

TT

It Could Happen to You is a lovely movie. And, more relevant, it's right up your alley. I hope both you and Carly can watch. Thanks for making that this month's "Valentine" movie!!!

Just Plain Bob

I’m a fan of almost every genre of film … except rom-coms. They are the bane of my movie watching existence. So I will probably be skipping several of this month’s selections.

Paul Browne

It Could Happen To You is a good movie, Rosie Perez is the memorable character for me....! and while From Russia with Love is a great Bond movie, I know when I watched some of the older Bonds with my kids they were totally taken back by the pacing, all the Bournes and Mission Impossibles move at a much faster pace and they weren't used to the slower burn of the older Bond movies. Hopefully all will enjoy though. My suggestion for a February romance would be An Affair to Remember, with Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr, especially as Roman Holiday seemed to go down well. It's plot-light, but the scrip is razor sharp and the actors seem to have a great time... Iconic also of course.

Adam Doyle

I think you will like It Could Happen to You... but as mentioned above City Of Angels might be a better movie.

Alan F

love story, a walk in the clouds (very young keanu reeves), letters to Juliet, chocolat (johnny depp), look who's coming to dinner (Sydney Poitier, Spencer Tracy, Katherine Hepburn), Up (the first 15 minutes is the most heart wrenching love story ever. the rest is a different bond)

Cole Jennett

I want to avoid spoilers, but I will just say, I disagree massively based on one event in that movie.😂

Steve Holton

Yes, love all the Valentines on PIB. Especially Billy Ray Valentine and Valentine McKee from Tremors. 😊 In Time would be fun watch along.

Pacmule

Did Breaking Bad get kicked to the curb?

My_Cousin_Mose

Valentines day is the king of Hallmark holidays. I guess that puts me in the black nail polish club? I'm not quite sure I get the reference but I definitely hate valentines day.

JL_83

fantastic idea!!!

Ramzi M. A. Ramzi

Although I voted for Dr. No to be the first of the 007 reactions, the first Bond movie I saw was Octopussy (1983). I know a lot of people don't rank it high on their list, but it is my favorite and will get my vote when the Roger Moore era begins. My first Connery one was Thunderball (1965), which I also voted for. Up until The Living Daylights (1987), all of my Bond viewings were out of order, yet I had a blast and dove right into it. Looking forward to your 007 reactions, Cassie (pretty good Connery voice impression by the way). Cheers!

Wes Stewart

In the Mood for Love is one of my all time favourites. Great watch at any time of year too.

Kristin D

While this is romance, I'm not sure Cassie would enjoy this, but I can't say why without spoiling it.

Wes Stewart

Completely logical to watch From Russia With Love first as it released before Goldfinger. A lot of people are disappointed that we’re not starting with Dr No. but my hope is that Cassie will love the Bond franchise so much that she’ll eventually revisit the ones she didn’t get to see.

Gábor Árki

I admit after the very close poll and the remark from Cassie she is considering doing all three, I am somewhat disappointed Dr. No won't be getting a reaction. But I'm still confident From Russia with Love is the second-best movie to start with and at least some of the journey of the initial evolution of the franchise will be included this way. Going by the release order will at least help with the continuity present in the series. Despite many saying there isn't any, actually there is some, especially in case of the Connery ones. A note in case you haven't watched it yet: the Bond movies are very much a product of their time in every sense extending to all aspects of the films: story, characters, acting, stunts, and special effects. So best to let go of all expectations you might have from modern spy movies, the MI franchise, and even any knowledge you might have about contemporary Bond movies. The classic Bonds are their own thing. Very excited about this FRWL reaction. My hunch is that Connery's Bond will be well received, but we shall see soon.

James1035

I disagree on Craig, but that is a discussion for a future time

Larry Darrell

BIG YES and a Long Yeeeeeaaaaahhhhh for About Time.

Wesley White

I haven't seen "It Can Happen To You" in ages, feels like an eternity! it's one of those classics that falls under the radar and no one ever talks about anymore! it's a good movie and I really think you will enjoy it! not to sound picky, but you should watch 007 "Dr. No" first, just because logic dictates that being the first Bond film, but hey at least you're still starting from the beginning, hopefully afterwards you'll be able to revisit and watch the others that didn't win that poll! in all honesty and shame on me, I've never seen any of the OG Bond films, other than "Live and Let Die", but never seen any of the Connery films! I've seen all the Pierce Brosnan ones and only a few of the Craig ones, personally "Goldeneye" is my favorite, being that it was the first Bond film I've ever seen lol! January moved a decent pace for me, thank you lol! as for Valentine's Day, I unfortuantely for personal reasons, I'm a hater of V-day, sorry! however, I do make an exception for some people I know, and I make an exception for you and Carly lol! really quick once again I want to say I'm so happy you and Carly loved my gifts on Saturday, that was so fun and it warmed my heart! the Aragorn, Samwise the Brave, and White Tree of Gondor shirts were for you Cassie, and the Legolas and Hobbits shirts were for Carly, just to help clarify that! oopsie on my part for not labling them, but since I had them with your respective Minnie Mouses I thought you would've figured it out, sorry lol! hope you liked the Christmas card and the fan shoutout I made for you two! you and Carly are the best, much love and support and as always........ stay classy Cassie🥰😁😉👍

Paul Browne

Punch Drunk Love is a great shout.... Romantic, but completely different. Who knew Adam Sandler could turn in such a great performance.

Alexis

For Valentine's Day: The Adjustment Bureau (2011). A love story with a sci-fi twist to it. Though if you haven't seen it already, maybe not the one to do during the live stream.

Richard Maurer

I wonder if Cassie is trying to tell us not to go the 'it tied/close to tired, so watch this one too' thing too often. It's happened fairly frequently lately, and maybe she's had enough of it.

Adam Doyle

Dr. No should have been the starting Bond movie for your viewing.

Mike LL

This, to me, is the ideal way to start Bond. And I am glad Cassie is that "release order" type of gal. Really we aren't choosing the order of watch in the Bond polls, just which movies to see, because the order of watch is always the order in which they were made.

Nismo

Can't wait for the Bond reactions! I might be one of the few people who likes January since that's when my birthday is 😅As for Valentines Day, been indifferent to it the last 5 years lol

Rick Williams

You can watch any Bond movie you want. In any order you want. I'm not picky. I've seen them all and would be happy to rewatch any and all of them with you and Carly. As far as Valentine's Day. It has gotten to expensive. I prefer more heartfelt gifts and actions over expensive gifts. January was a weird month for me. And busy. I had 3 birthdays. And a family member had to have surgery. So, the month was joyful with the birthdays and stressful with the surgery. And my Dad has to have surgery either this month or March. Life can be hard.

Mike LL

Uh, guys, you know why she is watching Russia first don't you? Duh, it's got "LOVE" in the title!! 🤣🤣❤💕💖💘

Adam Doyle

oh i agree, but if she is starting the Bond franchise (yes i know she is not doing every one) but I would think one would want to start at the start.

Glen Childs

The first Bond movie was Dr. No in 1962. R.I.P Sean Connery, forever Bond in our hearts!

Doc Larry

From Russia with love is an atypical Bond movie it is very straightforward spy thriller. The later movies with more explosions special effects wacky characters. However I am an absolute fan of the James Bond Movies the different actors had their own take on the character but very entertaining

Robin Craft

Looking forward to the ladies starting the Bond films. For me, January went by quickly... seemed like only yesterday it was NYE. Valentine's Day...meh. On the subject of Rom Coms, one that I have become fond of is "A Good Year" starring Russell Crowe, Marion Cotillard and Albert Finney. Directed by Ridley Scott ( Gladiator, The Martian, Blade Runner, etc.) Funny, clever dialogue and definitely under the radar.

Kristin D

Valentine's picks: You've Got Mail (Meg Ryan, Tom Hanks) French Kiss (Meg Ryan, Kevin Kline)

James Moy

Ok at the risk of being banned... When she says "LOVE movie watch" is she reviewing the kind of film you don't watch with your grandmother? Even if it's in the dvd player? EVER! That really was an awkward christmas

Stick Figure Studios

I was also an advocate of starting with DR. NO (which is a great Bond movie), but FRWL is a good place to start as well.

Stick Figure Studios

OCTOPUSSY was my first Bond film as well. My dad took me to the theater to see it when I was 7 years old and I was a fan immediately. It's still one of my favorites and I consistently see it being undervalued in series rankings. I will be pleased if it wins the Moore poll (along with THE SPY WHO LOVED ME, of course, as it is easily Moore's best outing).

James Moy

Valentines Picks:- Maid To Order. 1987. Ally Sheedy, Beverley D'Angelo, Tom Skerritt. Father Goose. 1964. Cary Grant, Leslie Caron, Trevor Howard. Houseboat. 1958. Cary Grant, Sophia Loren, Martha Hyer. Operation Petticoat. 1959. Cary Grant, Tony Curtis, Joan O'Brien. Move Over Darling. 1963. James Garner, Doris Day. The Thrill Of It All. 1963. James Garner, Doris Day. The Full Monty. 1997. Robert Carlyle, Mark Addy, Tom Barber. Forgetting Sarah Marshall. 2008. Kristen Bell, Jason Segel, Mila Kunis, Paul Rudd. All great romantic comedies. All viewer friendly (albeit with a little editing). You will adore all of them. P.s. Valentines day is my birthday so, you know, no pressure! ;)

Stick Figure Studios

Speaking as someone who's seen the original movie that inspired CITY OF ANGELS (the sublime German art film WINGS OF DESIRE, by Wim Wenders), it's very difficult for me to enjoy the Nic Cage one as I find it so vastly inferior in every single way.

Matt B.

"Notting Hill" for Valentine's 😉

Ramzi M. A. Ramzi

Yeah, I saw Octopussy when I was about 11 or 12, and to this day it's my go-to Bond movie when I just want to escape the daily grinder. I second your wish and hope it wins the poll along with TSWLM (1977). But I have to say that For Your Eyes Only (1981) is a pretty good 007 adventure and a tough contender to beat (which I also love and rank as one of Moore's best). If the winners are out of these three, then I'll be very pleased.

Erik Daniel

Let's not talk about January lol. It went by so slow and I'm just glad it's over. Now, if I did rock nail polish, I'd have to go black. Like black hole black lol. However none of that matters because we have It Could Happen To You coming up. A wonderfully sweet film and a favorite rom com in this house. I actually sent it along with a bunch of other rom com's a while ago but I must have messed something up because I don't think it ever got there. A Walk In The Clouds is another one that was in the package I think you might just love.

Stick Figure Studios

Yeah, my guess is FOR YOUR EYES ONLY will be the runner-up after TSWLM (which I'm also fine with; FYEO is great too) because I think that's the one generally regarded as Moore's second best. There are a surprising number of people, though, who like both LIVE AND LET DIE and THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN (neither of which I particularly care for), so you never know. It could be one of those. I hope not, but we'll see.

Ramzi M. A. Ramzi

I don't care for those two early outings either. Something about them just feels off. Moonraker (1979) and A View to a Kill (1985) are my guilty pleasures. But what makes Moonraker, TSWLM, and Octopussy so delightful to watch is Roger Moore; it appears to me that he was truly enjoying himself making those movies and already made the character his own away from Connery's shadow. Anyways, fingers crossed.

Bill Maurer

Can't remember the exact quote, but I overheard someone once say that "Daniel Craig was a very good James Bond. Sean Connery WAS James Bond." Or something to that affect Thanks again for all you and others do. Have a great day and an even better weekend

Ramzi M. A. Ramzi

I just hope that Cassie will change her mind and add Dr. No to the list. I mean, who doesn't want to watch along when this happens: "I admire your luck, mister?" "Bond...James Bond" And that legendary theme kicking in... I mean the dude was so cool here, he made smoking look healthy :)

Alan Kobb

How many times have you told us that About Time was your favorite movie for so long? I think this is an excuse for a re-watch. :-) OK. For V's Day, Cassie is entitled. Go crazy, but you really need to consider watching something else. Want a love story? try Fiddler on the Roof.

Matt Rose

Roger is my Bond. I fully acknowledge that Connery is the 'best' Bond but I grew up with Roger as my guy. My first theatrical Bond film was TSWLM in 1977 (I was 7 years old) and holy cow, I was hooked. I know that a lot of younger people write him off as the 'campy Bond' but I'm serious...if you grew up with him, he was great and those films fit the mood of the 70s. I like all of the Bond actors to varying degrees but Roger will always be my #1.

Mike Lemon

I'll just leave this here- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeixtYS-P3s

Mike Lemon

Finally, someone else recommending it. I've been trying to get it for a while now.

BRT

Great call on the 007 film

zynjams

ive requested It could happen to you for about a year. so happy she is finally gpoing to watch

Mike Lemon

??? Content gets made either way. If The Last Dragon gets watched in February or if it gets watched in August, it still gets watched. But if you want a "movie affirmative action" month, you do you. I would rather watch the movie because it is good all year long.

James1035

I know for a fact that I’m going to have the minority opinion on him

Larry Darrell

Bond’s reveal is “slow” in From Russia With Love as well. Much Slower.

Larry Darrell

Juliet, Naked (2018) has been a favorite February kind of movie of mine for the past few years.

2023-02-02 06:13:19 Maybe I'm a little dense, but am I to presume that Carly isn't seeing anyone on a regular basis at the moment? If I knew an exceptional young man who plays golf and bears some resemblance to a young Kevin Costner, I would tell him that he needs to try to find some appropriate way to at least exchange "Hello"s. On line, she truly impresses as charming, accomplished and attractive.

Shawn Kildal

Does anyone know if IT CAN HAPPEN TO YOU is streaming anywhere? I can't seem to find it

John Dunbar

People who are not watching it first tend to dislike it because of being too slow, simple, and cheaper looking in comparison. Its biggest draw is having all those iconic first moments, but these will be lost if they watch other ones before. So unless it is happening first it might be best to just simply ignore it. Not to mention the beginning of From Russia is kind of spoiling its ending.

Caomhan84

I'm one of those that doesn't like Dr. No. I never have. I'm a lifelong bond fan and it's on my bottom tier list of Bond films. I won't say it's a bad movie, because it's not, but I completely understand people that don't want to watch it first. Because it took me like four tries to watch it all the way through.

Philip Alan

I think I've seen 3 Bond movies total? One with Roger Moore and 2 with Pierce.

N M

Me too. Have you seen Bridget Fonda lately? Surprising.

N M

If there is, I vote for DO THE RIGHT THING

N M

Sixteen Candles - my choice for Valentines Day watch party

Andrew Hogan

I’m very curious to see if Cassie would watch Austin Powers after the Bond movies, unless she’s seen them.

zynjams

Elizabethtown starring Orlando Bloom, The Goodbye Girl starring Richard Dreyfus, the Majestic starring Jim Carey, Silver Linings Playbook starring Jennifer Lawrence Bradley Cooper and the Philadelphia Eagles, STARDUST,

Gábor Árki

According to https://letterboxd.com/pib1/films/ she has seen all three. But Johnny English is still a possibility, if that's any consolation.

rhaegar

I'm sure you've already got lots planned but some movies for Valentine's that I'm surprised you haven't seen yet and would be great for this month are Baz Luhrmann's 1996 Romeo + Juliet, Stardust and Guess Who's Coming to Dinner starring Sidney Poitier, Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy.

Andrew Hogan

No, I was just curious, since most of those movies were based on bond and a few other spy movies. Thanks for the reply though.

Al Swearengen

It occurred to me, Cassie hasn't seen Pretty Woman. How is that possible? Unless she's seen it outside the channel, but I don't recall it being on that list.

rakesh

Romantic comedy-drama Movie? My pick would be Lars and the Real Girl - Stars Ryan Gosling, criminally underrated. Also Green Card is a great comedy drama romance as well.

Mike Lemon

I think the Zeffirelli Romeo and Juliet (the gold standard) should be seen before the 1996 version, but I like both so it doesn't *really* matter much to me.

Keith Jones

As this resounds with me...we should get jackets and a secret handshake

rakesh

funny i remember the full monty as a comedy, but not a romantic comedy.

Andrew Rose

I second that suggestion! Have been patiently waiting to see if she'll do a reaction to that movie.

Rodger Johnson

i just watched that the other day. Its unbelievable good. Gosling's acting is, as usual, exceptional.

Brian McGovern

I can just hear all the snickering now when people think about what sort of secret handshake a bunch of single guys would adopt.😆

nick bell

Moonstruck. Long overdue

N M

I hope so. Sixteen Candles is also currently streaming free on Amazon Prime as well!

N M

SIXTEEN CANDLES - currently streaming FREE on AMAZON Prime!

Richard Maurer

You're not alone. I always give any genre a chance, but after giving rom-coms several chances I knew for sure that they're really not for me. I'm fine with romance in movies like Lord of the Rings, because it's part of the story, not the entire story as in rom-coms.

Peggy Zehr

"A Walk on the Moon" - Love this one!! Diane Lane and Viggo "Sexy" Mortenson. "Moonstruck" - Odd love story. Cher (she's GOOD in this one) and this is almost the only time I can bear to watch Nicholas Cage. Have you seen "Moulin Rouge" with Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman? LOVE IT and I don't usually like musicals. MODERN music. "The Way We Were" with Barbra Streisand and young, beautiful Robert Redford. Not really a happy ending though. Seems that many love stories that I like have sad endings, i.e. Romeo and Juliet - the original 1969 film by Franco Zeffirelli. BEAUTIFUL and helps bring Shakespeare to life. I have LOTS more great love stories to recommend (Dr. Zhivago, Cold Mountain, Bridges of Madison County, Children of a Lesser God, Out of Africa, Love Story.........all SAD ENDINGS!!

Peggy Zehr

I remember LOVING Operation Petticoat as a child (pre-teen)!! OMG - Young Tony Curtis! and Cary fucking Grant!!

Katie Jackson

Some great Romances that I can't believe you haven't seen. ☆The Wedding Date. ☆Nights In Rodanthe. ☆Where The Heart Is. ☆America's Sweethearts. ☆The Majestic. ☆Kate & Leopold. ☆Brown Sugar. ☆The American President. ☆Waiting To Exhale. ☆Bed Of Roses. ☆One Fine Day. ☆Fools Rush In. ☆Tin Cup. ☆City Of Angels. ☆Hope Floats. ☆Practical Magic ☆Blast From The Past. ☆Some Kind Of Wonderful. ☆Overboard. ☆Nine Months. ☆Just Wright. ☆Father Of The Bride 2. ☆An Affair To Remember.

Katie Jackson

Yeah, I think I sent It Could Happen To You in one of the packages I sent awhile back too. Definitely looking forward to it.

Katie Jackson

I think Cassie has seen all those movies and that's why they're not listed. It's getting hard to find Rom-Coms she hasn't seen

@Katie - Cassie said above that she wants to watch a rom-com that she's already seen for the live watch-along so she can "chat and stuff," so that's why I recommended the ones she's already watched. I looked at her Letterboxd list and chose the ones I thought were a bit better than About Time, but that movie is still a cute movie. Honestly, I'm fine with whatever she chooses, I think it'll still be a fun live watch-along. 😊

MOONSTRUCK! It's a great rom/com and I believe CHER won an Oscar? You'd love the quirky story.

I'm watching From Russia with Love at the moment. I would say the opening loses something if have not seen Dr No, and the M/Moneypenny scenes really play on the ones from the previous film. There is also no tuxedo or "Bond, James Bond"!

Romancing the Stone .. great rom com adventure for Valentine's

"That's a Smith and Wesson, and you've had your six." *shoots* My absolute favorite Bond line.

Affair to Remember has the wittiest dialogue on that cruise ship! Battle of the sexes!

Suggestion: WHEN HARRY MET SALLY for the watch along movie! I know you said that you’ve seen it before, so it’s a great choice because you can discuss it while it’s playing, plus this movie is extremely watchable multiple times because there are so many interesting conversations among the characters…. AND it’s on cable a lot so we can all probably find copies for free!

Yep, that's a great line indeed. You may also notice, as Bond removes the suppressor, he had a look on his face. Not a look of accomplishment, but rather feeling sorry it came down to this. Connery was truly great in this movie.

Alternatively, YOU’VE GOT MAIL would also be ideal…

Or if you’d like to see something new and funny and romantic, AS GOOD AS IT GETS with Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt. 2 Oscar winners in the same movie, BEST ACTOR and BEST ACTRESS, In 1997. Absolutely my favorite movie of all time

Valentine’s Day The time travelers wife (Rachel McAdams from About Time is in this movie ) The Age of Adeline (Harrison Ford is in this movie)
