Our first Roger Moore experience, I still love SC the most so far. This one has probably been my least favorite so far, but still interesting to see another take on our Bond! I did like seeing Dr. Q Medicine Woman, now more "Somewhere in Time" beauty as the Bond Girl, but some of this felt "off" to me?

Ps-we have already watched the spy who loved me and really enjoyed that one!

Not surprised this has been your least favorite. The people who voted for this did you two wrong. For Your Eyes Only would have been a FAR better choice for you.

Gabriel L.

For everyone who voted for LaLD just because of the intro song or because it happened to be the first Moore entry, this outcome is what the rest of us tried to warn you about. LaLD is not actually a very good Bond film (IMHO)! Oh well, at least we have The Spy Who Loved Me to look forward to. :-)

sarCC

Yeah, this is definitely my least favorite Moore Bond movie. Looking forward to whichever one you watch next, though.

James UK

I haven’t watched the reaction yet but your summary of this being ‘off’ seems correct. Just my opinion of course but this is not a great Bond movie. It’s a shame it came second in the poll because there are several better Moore Bond films than this. They just didn’t know how to use Moore as Bond at this stage and it shows. I also think it’s the Bond film that’s aged least well. I’m certain you would have much preferred For Your Eyes Only. In fact I suspect it would have been your favourite of all the Moore Bond movies. I’m glad you enjoyed The Spy Who Loved Me. That’s classic Moore and a far better representation of his Bond.

John Cranberry

Nooooo. LALD was always one of my most favourite Bond films 😞

2023-03-27 09:07:17 I admit, I am still puzzled how LALD took second place, especially with so many votes that it wasn't even close and was worried about it might not be a good choice for you. My least favorite era of Bond starts with On Her Majesty's Secret Service and ends with The Man with the Golden Gun. I consider Moore's first two movies to be his weakest. Their tone is weird, the plot is weak and most importantly he just couldn't really capture Bond's character yet and find his own tone. That only happened in his third movie, The Spy Who Loved Me. I'm still confident you would have enjoyed For Your Eyes Only much more, maybe even more than TSWLM. So, if you ever plan to go back and revisit the skipped Bond movies, I think FYEO should definitely be on the top of the list. Anyway, I am still somewhat curious about this reaction and your take on this movie.

One good example would have been FYEO.

I really like this movie. The first two Moore Bond movies feel maybe a bit lower budget and are smaller in scope. The Spy Who Loved Me feels like a bigger movie and it has the wider aspect ratio again.

Art of Free Speech

Mine too.... in fact, it is my favorite. I think it's a matter of whether or not you like the Bond one liners and perhaps a more comical Bond. I do, and find this to be the most fun Bond out there.

Kevin Townsend

Not a great movie, but McCartney’s song is a masterpiece.

Art of Free Speech

You mean there are more that YOU prefer. Clearly, lots of us prefer LALD. It's my favorite Bond film by quite a bit.

Guy Gordon

Agreed. LALD does have the great title song, but FYEO is far better.

Art of Free Speech

Sorry you didn't care for it, but it's still my favorite Bond film, and not by a little.

Marko T.

For Your Eyes Only is actually my least favorite Moore era movie but it has the best theme song.

Cliff Stephenson

Well Cassie and Carly certainly didn’t prefer it, so I’d say, in this case and for our purposes here, you’re unquestionably the outlier.

Mike LL

And the theme song, or better called the main credits song, should take no consideration as to which Bond movies are seen. Did it really grab them??!!??

Stick Figure Studios

@JamesUK: Absolutely agree about them not knowing what to do with Moore as Bond yet (or the series in general). They're both very awkward, clumsy and surprisingly shoddy movies. Moore didn't really nail the character until TSWLM, whereas I think LALD and TMWTGG are Bond movies for people who don't really like Roger because of all his movies he's the least "Moore-like" in them.

Mitchell Bowker

I too share the sentiment of a few other people's comments, For Your Eyes Only is a great Bond film and my favorite Roger Moore era Bond film. If you have some spare time it would be worth checking it out as well, to really give Roger Moore a chance to make a better impression as Bond.

Damien beatty

First, I believe most peoples favorite Bond is the one that they grew up with. I was born in the late seventies and grew up with Roger Moore and he is still my favorite. His bond is more cheeky than the others but still has that charm that we all love. May I also say that Jane Seymour is in my top three favorite Bond women. She is an amazing woman with the talent to match.

Shawn Kildal

She's already seen The Spy Who Loved Me which means Goldeneye is getting that much closer!

Pickupthepieces76

Moore's Bond has not always been free of trends at the time. He went to space after Star wars was a hit and this movie is Bond's take on a blaxploitation movie. That and the villain being a drug lord and it being Moore's first outing as Bond ensures polarized views on this one. I can see how you didn't jive with this one. I would say the title song might be it's saving grace, but you don't seem to be paying much attention to them so far. That is a shame, since the title songs one of the big pillars of the Bond franchise. And Moore movies has a lot of great ones. But I do get you don't have the (nostalgic) love for these songs as most of us do just after a first listen. Most of us have known them for a long while.

Avastrasza

For Your Eyes Only is just much closer to how a Sean Connery Bond would be. It’s a revenge flick mostly. Such a shame it was on 3rd place.

Shawn Kildal

Octopussy was the name of main female character if my memory serves me right

Shawn Kildal

Carly, you should know Roger Moore from ALIAS. He had a very memorable episode in Season 1. He mainly had scenes with Arvin Sloane.

Dazman

It was an odd winner. Shame on you voters! I think Cassie and Carly would have preferred FYEO or Octopussy. Still, Dalton next!

Brian McGovern

I guess it is going to have take a REALLY good James Bond movie to make you remember the James Bond theme instead of doing the Mission Impossible theme.😂

Kent Theaker

Where's all the Moonraker lovers out there?

Walter

Live Free Or Die Hard, 2007, the 4th film in the Die Hard series.

Stick Figure Studios

OCTOPUSSY is also quite obviously influenced by Indiana Jones. At one point a character even says, "I hate snakes."

Caomhan84

Yeah... I had a feeling this would happen. Sooooooo many people voting for this movie was weird. It's not an enjoyable watch so I don't know what they were looking forward to? It's not even a good feature of what makes Roger Moore a particularly good Bond.

Alex Gorell

This is an definitely unpopular opinion but Roger Moore is easily my least favorite Bond by a long shot. For your eyes only is the only one I can actual tolerate and even then it’s still not great the rest are just painfully bad. Can’t wait for the Daniel Craig ones as they are my favorites.

Pickupthepieces76

Nothing wrong with patreons voting for their fave, even it may not be a popular choice. Often enough Cassie has liked movies which some 'deemed' not fit or right for her. And if she didn't like it too much after all, then so be it. You can't win them all.

Avastrasza

Can’t wait for the Dalton’s reactions! They will love Living Daylights and I really wonder what they think about License to Kill. :P I don’t think they will be fans, but I definitely think its Dalton’s best. He gives it his all.

Pickupthepieces76

The best thing about watching only two per actor (and maybe not even the best movies of the era) is that when they are finished and are all bummed out that it's over, they can do it all over again. With movies from Connery/Moore/Brosnan/Craig(?) they haven't seen before. I mean how often do you get to go back really. Imagine finding a Star Wars/Aliens/Indiana Jones/Jurassic Park movie you haven't seen from the original era, it's like finding gold. I know they chose to watch two per actor to keep it manageable (very understandable), but I cannot escape the feeling that they want to do the rest at some point in the future.

Caomhan84

A while back, I used to rate The Living Daylights in my top 5 of Bond films. I watched it again recently to see if it still held up, and it mostly did. I think it is a wonderful portrait of the environment of the late Cold War... It is just let down in the final stretch by a silly villain. I have a feeling they'll love it though. The music is '80s but it has a very modern touch in terms of movie making. It made me wish that the third Dalton film had come to pass.

Caomhan84

Sometimes people vote for movies THEY enjoy, and sometimes they vote for movies "to see a good reaction" because they know the reactor will hate it and it's funny to watch. I'm really wondering what the reason was this time... Because I can't think that this movie has THAT many fans.😂 Just an odd choice. But, c'est la vie.

Krusty “Topher”

So far it’s… Sean Connery 👍 FRWL👍 GF👍 George Lazenby 👎 OHMSS👎 Roger Moore👎 LALD👎 That about right so far??😀

Bill Maurer

More didn't come into his own as Bond till TSWLM.

Tim Raths

You guys would have enjoyed For Your Eyes Only way more than this one.

Walter

I could never get behind that movie. For me, it's the perfect example of the goofy side of Moore's Bond. But keep in mind it's been ages since I've seen it. Maybe I'd have a better appreciation for it now...

James1035

That seems to be the case. It’s too bad For Your Eyes Only lost.

James1035

I’m not surprised that you guys weren’t a fan of this one. It’s too bad For Your Eyes Only didn’t win second place as you would’ve liked that one a lot more. At least you get to watch the Spy Who Loved Me which is Moore’s best

Sean Novack

The same thing happened when people voted to introduce her to the American Western genre by voting for their "favorite", Unforgiven - a film specifically written to break all the tropes of an American Western genre film. She hated it because it made no sense, because people weren't willing to admit that starting someone out at a 101-level film like "The Good, The Bad & The Ugly, Tombstone, or an old-fashiond John Wayne or Jimmy Stewart flick is what needed to be shown first.

Matt Rose

Cassie and Carly: Strongly consider doing FOR YOUR EYES ONLY as an antidote to LALD. As you've stated that you already watched and liked TSWLM, I can virtually guarantee you that you'd like FYEO as it's in the same league.

Matt Rose

Big, big fan of MOONRAKER here. It's one of the more polarizing Bond films (love it or hate it) but I absolutely love it. Tonally, I also think it's one that Cassie and Carly would have a lot of fun with.

Mike LL

You summed it up perfectly, Krusty. Too bad we didn't start Moore off right with his best movie, The Spy Who Loved Me, and finished him up with a really good one such as For Your Eyes Only. As I've said before, I would even prefer Moonraker, with all its faults, instead of Live And Let Die.

Adam Grunther

You guys should really watch For Your Eyes Only. You’ve said that you’re considering doing all four of the Pierce Brosnan Bond films so honestly you might as well do at least one more of the Roger Moore films. I guarantee you’ll like it better than Live and Let Die. I have a feeling most people who voted for this movie only did it for the theme song anyway.

TinCan Cosmanaut

Cassie and Carly were looking for a replacement for mission impossible. Old bond won’t do it. I can’t wait till we get to Casino Royal

Krusty “Topher”

Yeah I had mentioned on Discord that it would have been interesting to see how her perspective would have been on Moore had she started with TSWLM. I think would have made a difference overall maybe

TwistedMagoo

I think it's time to skip the rest of the antique Bonds and go to Goldeneye. Brosnan's run is uneven (so is Craig's for that matter) but at least they are typically entertaining.

Aaron Ritchie

I knew you wouldn’t like this one, I was baffled it did so well in the poll. I hate this movie and I hate J.W. Pepper.

James1035

FYI to help with the confusion. James Bond from Connery thru Brosnan is the same character despite the actor changes.

djKENTO

The multiverse analogy doesn’t really work. Sometimes they address stuff that happened before and sometimes they don’t. It’s best to just not think about that aspect so hard and just enjoy the story.

Gary David Holbrook

Here's the deal, at least from my point of view. First of all, and if you can; try to get in a time machine and transport back to 1973; release date for Live And Let Die. (I was a junior in high school, by the way). VHS tapes would not even become available for at least another 4 years; cable TV was still in it's infancy; which means you didn't have much of a choice on what you wanted to watch; anywhere. Yes indeed, there was more content because of cable TV, but even the quality of the TV broadcast picture came into question, Aspect ratio also diluted any movies that were shown on TV at the time; a good portion of the image was cropped out to fit 4:3 TV screens. The letterbox feature (allowing for the entire movie image to be show) would not appear for quite some time. All of that, coupled with the fact that theater-based movies had to be sliced to accommodate commercials, resulted down to one feeling, at least to me. Watching theater-based movies on TV usually sucked. Why did I drag you guys through all of this? Because in those days, the fresh movie release was the defining moment, so to speak. Those that went to the theaters to see their first Bond film, and if as an example it featured Roger Moore as James Bond; well, that is their foundation. In those days, it would have been almost impossible to watch "Goldfinger" anywhere for example, so there was no way to even compare the 2 films, even if you wanted to do so. Sean Connery was and always will be my favorite James Bond. But I can't fault anyone in the least for having another actor as being their favorite Bond character. Think about this; Goldfinger was released in the theaters December 1964. I was never big into pre-recorded VHS tapes (unless I went to BLOCKBUSTER), which means I probably would not even have had a chance to actually see Goldfinger, start to finish, until it was released on DVD. From what I can tell, that was not until November 1997. At least 33 years before I ever got a chance to see and hear "Bond, James Bond" again in its truly intended format and proper placement. Thank you for reading. Side note, and as it related to BLOCKBUSTER movie rental stores. Each rental location may have either only had one, sometimes maybe 2 or 3 copies of a movie that would have been in demand. It was usually pot luck if the popular movie that you wanted to see was even in stock and available to rent out in the first place. I would also imagine that BLOCKBUSTER employees (and I can't blame them for this) made sure that their good friends were high up on the waiting list. Those were the days, my friends!

Walter Crockett

Honestly Cassie, this is one of my least favorite Roger Moore Bonds….I was surprised it was the runner up. The Spy who loved me was the best one. My runner up pick would have been Moonraker. Hopefully you can do more Bond’s next year and do Moonraker then

Stick Figure Studios

Carly likes Lazenby (more than Connery actually) and Cassie says she likes Moore even though neither cared for tyeur movies. Otherwise you're on point.

Stick Figure Studios

It's also the most spy-oriented entry (with an actual espionage plot and political intrigue) since FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE. It's practically a John LeCarre story.

Krusty “Topher”

Well I should clarify I’m only talking about Cassie. I have no idea on Carly’s likes/dislikes about the films. And I haven’t watched the LALD reaction but saw her post where she said she didn’t like it. So I wasn’t sure how that correlated to Moore.

Gabriel L.

Hard disagree. It's mostly upside from here on: TSWLM (which they already stated they enjoyed), Dalton (of which at least TLD is likely to get a thumbs up), and Brosnan (Goldeneye will surely be enjoyed, and either TND or TWINE might be). It would be a shame to not get to see each actor in sequence. We'll reach Craig eventually, people just need to have a little patience.

Stick Figure Studios

Once again, let me reiterate my disappointment that LALD came in second on the poll. The patrons really let you guys down with that result. Watching it again for this reaction, I'm reminded that it's just not a very good movie. None of the films during the late Connery/early Moore run (my least favorite period of the Bond series) are. It was a very awkward time for the franchise where they really didn't know what to do with Bond and Roger hadn't really come into his own as the character yet. So, no surprise to me at all that you did not like it. I figured that would be your reaction. I'm glad to hear you have both already watched and loved SPY WHO LOVED ME as it generally considered Moore's best and a much better representation of his tenure. I echo those who suggest adding Moore's FOR YOUR EYES ONLY to your schedule. It's a much better movie and you'll both enjoy it immensely. Then on to the next Bond (my personal favorite Timothy Dalton) whose movies I also think you will like.

Gabriel L.

It still kind of works as it wouldn't make sense for Bond to be the same character from the 60s through the 90s. "Multiverse Bond" can still make sense as each version might have some shared history, but in different times and places, and not a 100% shared history. But as you said, it's best not to try to think too deeply on it, it doesn't really matter one way or another as the stories are almost always disconnected.

Stick Figure Studios

The multiverse theory only works with Craig. He's the first actor to play a "different" Bond than the others.

Tommy.J

Yes they should watch at lease 3 Moore movies. He did make the most with 7 movies.

Tim Raths

They’ll also get closure on the Tracy story from OHMSS if they watch For Your Eyes Only.

Walter

Oh, I know. Forgive me, I should have said more. What I meant was in the reaction to Live and Let Die, she said the title sounded like a title to another movie and I was suggesting she was thinking of Die Hard's Live Free Or Die Hard. Totally unclear based on what I wrote. But also, I do hope they cover Die Hard 3, because it might be my favorite of the series.

Larry Darrell

Waiting til tonight to watch and read comments, but I will say, I think… Unlike the Sean Connery Poll, where most people agreed on the Top 3 and only moderately disputed over the ranking of 2nd & 3rd… the Roger Moore Poll was heavily disputed. A Large Portion of Us Patrons believed Live and Let Die should not have been in the Top 3. We were Very Vocal about it. I’d be willing to bet that a Great Number of the Patrons who voted for, For Your Eyes Only, did Not vote for Live and Let Die. So again, Cassie & Carly, please consider Watching the Third Place film, For Your Eyes Only, before moving on from Roger Moore. It is a Great Companion Film to The Spy Who Loved Me, among other Bond Films. It is one of Roger Moore’s Best. Now that y’all have seen the two films from the poll, y’all should check out the comments from the Roger Moore Poll, if you haven’t already, just to get an idea of how Divided the Poll got.

Neill Shaughness

Agree with everything you said, including Dalton as a personal favorite. I am actually not a huge fan of the Moore era generally (not saying they're bad, just saying the tone doesn't work for me) but the two exceptions are TSWLM and FYEO. Really bummed they aren't reacting to the latter for many reasons, not the least of is finally some closure on the murdered wife story

Stick Figure Studios

For the record, I love Moore and don't mind his campy tone at all. He was my first Bond and I'll always have a special place in my heart for him. That said, his best films are easily SPY WHO LOVED ME and FOR YOUR EYES ONLY (followed by the woefully underrated OCTOPUSSY, my first Bond film).

Celeste McAllister

I voted for TSWLM & FYEO..I didn't want LALD mostly because that Sheriff guy was a chew spitting disgusting bigot, lol.

Celeste McAllister

One more Moore then we move on PB,can't we get in at least one Timothy Dalton 007? 'Living Daylights' is a good 007 action film..

Stick Figure Studios

And for some unfathomable reason, they actually brought him back in the next one (the almost unbelievably inferior MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN) where his presence makes even less sense.

Neill Shaughness

I really think the people who voted for LALD were mostly voting for the song

Odd Thomas

If Die Another Day wins a Brosnan poll I will unsubscribe. And burn my laptop (jk ;)

Odd Thomas

I hope you watch both Dalton movies, they're great

Stick Figure Studios

It's understandable being so skeptical after the Moore poll debacle, but I'm confident DIE ANOTHER DAY will not win the Brosnan poll because nobody likes it. It'll be GOLDENEYE at #1 and either TOMORROW NEVER DIES or WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH at #2.

Odd Thomas

Yeah I was kidding really. Goldeneye would be my first choice for Brosnan, then TWINE

Mike LL

J. W. Pepper is the type of buffoonish prejudiced character in the vein of other such popular characters as Archie Bunker of TV's All in the Family and Sheriff Buford T. Justice of Smokey in the Bandit. One wasn't triggered by these clowns in the early 70's, it was too much fun to mock, ridicule and laugh at such losers.

Mike LL

Me too. I don't quite understand how the Moore poll came out to these two movies. For Your Eyes Only would be a great reaction.

Mike LL

I very much enjoyed reading your post and it had some very good points. And it did remind me of going to see Live And Let Die in the theater back in June, 1973. I was against C&C seeing this movie as one of their two Moores, but I am in no way against this movie. I must have been between my freshmen and sophomore years in high school when I went to see this, at least 3 times in the theater, and I very much enjoyed the movie, it was fantastic in fact. And I have seen every new Bond movie since this one in the theater when they came out. Thank you for reminding me how very much I enjoyed this movie when it first came out.

Mike LL

I think you are both right. I do really think that a large number of people, who really didn't know the Bond films very well, voted for Live and Let Die due to the popularity of the title song by Paul McCartney and Wings. That really can be the only explanation. Because you can go up and down these comments today and see that the vast majority of Bond movie fans think that For Your Eyes Only is the second best Moore Bond movie.

Tim Raths

Based on reading this comment section I hope it’s going to convince her to watch For Your Eyes Only.

Celeste McAllister

Watched 'John Wick 4' yesterday in the theater,I'm giving JW4 👍👍💋

Dazman

If people did vote for it based on the song, I despair.

Just Plain Bob

Roger Moore was the Bond of my generation. And, for that reason, I just didn’t understand the infatuation with the Bond character. Then I saw the original Bond, Sean Connery, and it all made a lot more sense. No offense to the Moore fans out there, but Connery was the perfect James Bond.

Rick Williams

Now I don't know if I should watch this reaction or not. If Cassie and Carly don't like it. Then the reaction will probably not be that good. It's been a hard day at work. I was hoping for a new fun up beat reaction to some movie or show. Wrong night for that I guess.

Stick Figure Studios

Also, I know I've said this before, but I'll repeat it in no uncertain terms since you still seem to be a bit confused. THEY'RE THE SAME BOND. The James Bond that Sean Connery plays is the same James Bond that George Lazenby plays is the same James Bond that Roger Moore plays is the same James Bond that Timothy Dalton plays is the same James Bond that Pierce Brosnan plays. They're all the same person just played by different actors... like when Mark Ruffalo replaced Edward Norton as Bruce Banner/Hulk or Don Cheadle replaced Terence Howard as Brody in the MCU. Same thing. That's why, as you observed, M and Moneypenny and Q are all the same, because it's all one continuity. It's the same James Bond. The ONLY actor to play a "different" James Bond is Daniel Craig because the producers decided to reboot the continuity after Brosnan. He's the only Bond where the multiverse theory can be applied. Hope that helps.

David Collins

GoldenEye will run away with it for sure. I think World is Not Enough will get #2 because its the best Bond song ever, imho. Which is fine because it's also a really good movie. I can't bring myself to watch Live and Let Die. It's a shame that their format is leaving many far better Bond movies unwatched. I hope someday they go back and watch most if not pretty much all of the Sean Connery ones.

Gábor Árki

It is a unique concept for sure and so far unlike any other movie franchise afaik. And it gets even more complicated when you take into account other supporting characters, like Felix Leiter, who also appeared in Goldfinger (and few others not getting a reaction) but has always been played by a different actor despite being the same character. I feel that since they rebooted the continuity with Casino Royale more people than ever think that every Bond actor has his own separate universe. Also, regarding the continuity, even this movie has some reference to events in the very first one. The fisherman, Quarrel Junior, is the son of Quarrel who helped Bond in Dr No.

Gábor Árki

- Cassie: Do we think that's Roger Moore? - Carly: I don't want it to be... I laughed out loud during this part. 😆 Based on the post I was a bit afraid you disliked the movie or even Moore altogether, but now seeing it I feel you did enjoy parts of it and were overall entertained even if other aspects, like voodoo or JW Pepper didn't work. Overall, I feel quite similarly about this movie as summarized in the outro. Moore's Bond certainly has its own style, being a charming, witty, gentleman spy. Also, his movies tend to be more lighthearted and humorous with some comical relief. Looking forward to the next one.

Gábor Árki

While I do like Smokey and the Bandit quite a bit and even enjoy laughing at Sheriff Buford T. Justice in that movie, this kind of a character does work there. But it just feels so out of place and stands out like a sore thumb in a Bond movie.

Gábor Árki

After the Moore poll I'm no longer so sure, but there would be something seriously wrong if GoldenEye doesn't take the first place and Die Another Day the last. I wouldn't dare to predict which will have more support though: Tomorrow Never Dies or The World in not Enough. I haven't decided myself either.

Walter Crockett

I was pretty confident that the two Moore movies were going to be The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker. When Live and Let Die win…I was shocked 😮

Neill Shaughness

How about the main song track. Paul McCartney... former Beatle.... what a classic voice.

He and Connery both made seven, though some people don't include "Never Say Never Again" because it's non-Eon (they're wrong, though).

Jeremy Rickard

I really hope at some point you watch For Your Eyes Only. It should have been in the top two. You both would really like it. The pre-title sequence is fantastic and would give you both some closure from how you felt at the end of OHMSS. Also more winter sports!

Ian Cano

PIB now in 4K!

Canadianant

Even if this really wasn't one of the best of the Roger Moore's it was still enjoyable to rewatch with you ladies. I hadn't watched it in years. The cool part about films of this era is that the stunts all have to be practical. No CGI. I mean boat chase scene is pretty impressive for it's era if a bit long. Looking forward to further Bond reactions

ArsTropica

It's a fun, light-hearted movie that I think Cassie would enjoy. And Moore is at his best when he is chewing the scenery.

Larry Darrell

Your Post got the PIB Heart Like. I hope this means Cassie read your "PS." I have been trying to get this point across for quite a while, and it has apparently not been working. More people need to keep saying it. Thank You.

Larry Darrell

Licence to Kill is what I'm waiting for. Also, Praying to the Spirit of Orville Redenbacher for the Girls to watch, For Your Eyes Only.

LICENCE TO KILLis is maybe the most underrated Bond film of them all (although thankfully that is starting to change). Not well liked upon it's release, including by me, more people (including myself) are learning to appreciate it and Dalton's performance... especially in the post-Craig era. Dalton was basically the proto-Craig.

Robert da Spruce

That wasn’t really my favorite Bond movie. Still not sure why it did so well in the poll. It was probably my least favorite Roger Moore Bond film. I’m glad to hear you already recorded your reaction to The Spy Who Loved Me and that you enjoyed it! Looking forward to watching that one! Even though the movie wasn’t that good, I did enjoy your reaction ladies!

Larry Darrell

I know what Cassie said about On Her Majesty's Secret Service in this Reaction, and I'll agree it's a valid point that they could have "tightened things up a bit." But that would have changed the feel of the film, and taken away from the Real Story that was being told, which was a Romantic Tale. That whole movie was Completely Unexpected for them and caught them Off Guard. They thought James Bond was a character with specific qualities and only One "MO." It took Them, and most people who saw it for the first time, a while to figure out what was happening. By the time of the BARN scene, They had figured it out. I truly believe they were enjoying it and would remember it More Fondly if it had not been for The Ending. And if They would ever come around to Understanding, what that Film, and its Ending, meant to the Series and how it plays into the Other Films, and that All of the Films from Connery to Dalton/Brosnan are All Connected and in the SAME UNIVERSE. Then Maybe her Take on the Film would change. And Carly did say she liked George Lazenby. Woo Hoo, that's a PLUS.

Larry Darrell

Why no PIB Like on this comment? I can't shake this feeling that Cassie is purposely dismissing this Fact. I Really Hope I'm Wrong.

The First 16 Films are ALL Linked in some way to Ian Fleming's Original Novels and Short Stories. Casino Royale published in 1953 thru Octopussy and The Living Daylights posthumously published in 1966. 13 YEARS, it took Ian Fleming to write the History of James Bond. Enter Albert R. Broccoli & Harry Saltzman. These Two Producers decide to make films based on this James Bond History. It takes a Little Longer to make Films from the Writing Process to the Shooting, the Editing and Release of Each Film. Between 1962 thru 1989, 16 FILMS were released, in 27 YEARS. One Film Every 1 to 2 Years, only ONCE taking 3 Years. In these 27 YEARS & 16 FILMS, the Same Story of the Same Person, James Bond, is being Told and Portrayed. Because it took them So Long between films (but really not), Time did Pass. Actors had to be changed. The World Setting had to be Updated. But, The Same Story of the Same Person, James Bond, who had but ONE LIFE, in ONE LIFETIME, in ONE WORLD. All written down and documented by ONE MAN, Ian Fleming, in 13 YEARS. It Took 27 YEARS, 16 FILMS and 4 ACTORS to tell ONE MAN's STORY.

Larry Darrell

I think we just had a Break Through! Live and Let Die was good for something after all. ;-) :-) ;-) Luv ya Cass! ;-) :-) ;-) Each Film has their own, "Bond Song," that is featured in the Main Titles Sequence. This Song was the Biggest Reason that you watched this Movie. This one was the most popular, or at least Most Well Known.

Larry Darrell

I've still Yet to watch Batman '89. I think I'm building it up worse than it probably is. I've always figured They were not aware of Adam West's Batman, which is where '89 was pulling from.

Larry Darrell

David Hedison, is the only actor, before Jeffrey Wright, to play Felix Leiter Twice. In Live and Let Die and, again soon, in Licence to Kill. Also, Many people miss an exchange between M and Draco at Bond & Tracy's Wedding. As They are walking down the steps, Draco says, "Anyway, it was a pleasure, to meet the man who cost me three of my best operatives." M replies, "Yes, November '64... the bullion job. You got away with quite a chunk of the haul. Tell me..." Goldfinger was never officially affiliated with SPECTRE and the Film was released in the Fall of '64. Goldfinger may have been one of Draco's Operatives.

Stick Figure Studios

It's not a good movie, but it's still better than MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN which, in my book, is not only the worst Moore film, but the nadir of the whole franchise.

ROBERT CLARK

I got a question for you Bond fans, can anyone tell me if Quarrel Jr. Is suppose to be related to Quarrel from Dr. NO?

Rick Williams

Yes. That is their issue with Batman 89 and these older Bonds. They did not grow up exposed to any of the older movies or even what it was like to actually live through the 70s and 80s. They are uncomfortable with the older Bonds womanizing.

Krusty “Topher”

It’s so funny to me when people try to explain that the reason someone doesn’t like a movie that they like it MUST mean they don’t “Understand” the story; it’s meaning; it’s social impact; it’s impact on other movies etc. you can’t force people into Liking movies. The fact is Cassie wasn’t liking this movie even before the wedding. The wedding made it more tolerable. The ending just re-enforced what she thought prior to the wedding. And guess what?? It’s perfectly ok. People wanted her to love Robocop! She didn’t! I wanted her to love Pulp Fiction! She hated it! I know every angle you’re talking about with this movie and have seen it multiple times! I don’t like it either and Lazenby is….and has always been….my LEAST favorite Bond, I expressed very early on it wasn’t required and shouldn’t be part of the Bond franchise watch and was just taking time away from much better movies especially if there was going to be limits on the number of movies watched overall. Movies I’d rather have her watch more than OHMSS…. ANY other Connery movie besides maybe Never say never again!🤣 ANY Moore movie except maybe A View to a Kill!🤣 I hate both Dalton movies….but yeah give me some Dalton! Both of them! I’ll take all Brosnan and Craig films for $200 Alex!!! She didn’t like the film. Me either. And it’s ok.

ROBERT CLARK

Me too, it was the first Bond film I saw and I grew up playing the N64 game!!!

Ari-Pekka Lindqvist

Love the reaction by the way, but best Roger Moore James Bond movie is For Your Eyes Only. Love that and always watch it if it's on tv or somewhere else. Totaly recomend that Roger Moore Bond moovie. Peace 😊

ROBERT CLARK

Another enjoyable reaction Ladies, I think you might have missed Baron Samedi's discription from the Voodoo dance scene. He can't die so he is the same guy who keeps coming back throughout the film. Answering some of your questions Cassie; Sharks are drawn to blood and can smell a single drop of it from miles away. Also being a qualified Crocodile Keeper. I can tell you Crocodiles can live from 100-150 years and can survive a whole year without eating. Also a fun fact; The guy who owns the Croc farm was named Ross Kanaga and the film crew thanked him by naming the movie's villian after him. He also was the guy who performed Bond's daring escape. He performed jumping over the crocs 5 times!!! He had a few close calls. Carly, I loved how you predicted Bond's getaway!

Larry Darrell

Here are Ross Kananga’s 5 Takes. https://youtu.be/mcpT6vrr4Ts He also saw his Father eaten alive by a crocodile when he was a child, and still had that crocodile on the farm. https://boldentrance.com/how-stuntman-ross-kananga-used-real-crocodiles-for-this-wild-sequence-in-live-and-let-die/amp/

What's going to get really interesting is when they start seeing the same actors playing different roles... like Joe Don Baker as an enemy (Brad Whitaker) and then later as an ally (Jack Wade).

Matt Rose

I've been pushing PATHAAN on the Discord server. Very fun movie.

Grad

Slightly more interesting than the previous movie.

Larry Darrell

The only thing I said they didn’t Understand was that All of the Bonds before Craig were the SAME BOND. After this Reaction, that is Still True.

Krusty “Topher”

It’s fine Larry. It just seems some folks just can’t let a person Not Like a movie without the insulting insinuation that it’s because they “don’t get it” or “don’t understand”. It’s happened a few times in this channel. It’s kind of that way with picks too. Such as with LALD. How people are complaining that it won and how another movie should have. Indirectly insulting all the folks that voted for it like they were idiots or something. I for one don’t think that’s cool. In fact I had voted for TSWLM and FYEO. But when I saw the backlash over LALD I decided to go vote for that one too. In solidarity for the folks who had every right to vote for the movie they love!🤣 Anyway….if that’s not you….then cool! Sorry I got it wrong🤷‍♂️

Larry Darrell

I wouldn’t say you’re wrong. I’ve honestly just been trying to understand “why so many people voted Live and Let Die, over For Your Eyes Only.” And Hey, you gave me One More Reason that people were voting for Live and Let Die, that I was unaware of. Thank You. I’m trying to learn. I truly felt there were things in Live and Let Die that would turn the Girls Off, and I was trying to understand why people felt the opposite. They were only going to watch 2 Roger Moore films, and I felt those films should be ones that would be the most enjoyable “for Them,” not Us. The more Joy they have, would mean the sooner they would “Want” to come back and watch the films “We” want to watch. It really seemed like most people were voting for the song, when I thought it was obvious that they had paid no attention whatsoever to any previous Main Titles Sequence. Jane Seymour, the Boat Race, and Crocodile Jumping seemed to be the other points of interest for Voting. I didn’t feel that was enough, when there were exchanges in the film like, Bond: A deceitful, perverse woman. A liar, a cheat and I’d like some answers now. Rosie: They’ll kill me if I do. Bond: And I’ll kill you if you don’t. Rosie: But, you couldn’t… you wouldn’t. Not after what we just done. Bond: I certainly wouldn’t have killed you before. I don’t think Sean Connery would have ever said anything like that. Connery, at most, may have been a little sexist at times, but never at the level that Roger Moore was in his first 2 films. I would even go so far as to say, Roger Moore’s first 2 are the most misogynistic of all the Bond films, and I don’t like saying that. I actually never realized that until I started watching Popcorn in Bed Reactions, and noticed how Cassie & Carly reacted to certain things in other movies. Last month, when previewing the films to get back into Bond mode, I watched Roger Moore’s films with Cassie & Carly in mind, and it felt like they would pick up on this. I didn’t want to hurt their impression of Roger Moore on the first Film. That is why myself, and others, probably came on strong in the Poll comments. Without mentioning details of the films, we were trying to get people to think about Cassie & Carly first, and not Themselves. If I offended anyone by doing this, then I Apologize. I think it’s becoming clear that The Girls will never feel the same about James Bond the way I do anyways. Oh Well.

Krusty “Topher”

No worries! All opinions are welcome! That’s why I’m an advocate for the For Your Eyes Only AND LALD crowd! I may not agree with either (I’d rather seen Octopussy or TMWTGG🤷‍♂️). Yes I think the long boat sequence and Sheriff Pepper did the film in for at least Cassie although she seemed to get a kick out of Moore for the most part. Maybe that leaves the door open for a great TSWLM reaction yes?!

Larry Darrell

She has let it “slip” that they enjoyed The Spy Who Loved Me. Yay. That’s a Thumbs Up for Moore Then.

Dave Sees Movies

Don't know whether anyone else answered this, but the Die Hard movie you're thinking of is the fourth, "Live Free or Die Hard." And because people not from the northeast US always seem to be confused about the title, "Live Free or Die" is New Hampshire's state motto.

Gone

It was driving me nuts that Cassie wasn't recognizing Jane Seymour but she finally got it when Jane gave us that mischievous grin about halfway through the movie. Dr. Quinn. Yes. Somewhere in Time. Yes. But also the hilariously inappropriate mom in Wedding Crashers and dozens of other movie and TV roles. Hard to believe this movie is 50 years old and she's still working today.

pkleo73

oh man thank you for this! Not that the other stuff isnt good also, but I feel I grew up with this one floating around our house. My Dad loved Bond and my brother got into it and hence, I as well. But loved every minute of them! Anyways, looking forward to this! Smoke em if ya got em! ;P

Colin Gutierrez

IMO this is the second worst of the Roger Moore ones.

Krusty “Topher”

That’s awesome! Although for some reason it won’t let me edit it to change it to a 👍! Not sure why

Seth R

I completely disagree the Pierce Brosnan bond movies are worth a complete watch just as the Daniel Craig ones are.

David Freese

I bet you didn't know she played a role in 5 hours of the classic Battlestar Galactica.

2023-03-30 08:00:34 The Roger Moore Bonds for you guys would be The Spy Who Loved Me or For Your Eyes Only because they are kinda romantic in tone plus For Your Eyes Only wraps up the ending of On Her majesty's Secret Service in the first 5 minutes. Moonraker is just epic goofy insanity & he goes to outer space. Octopussy is silly fun.

I would say the rock climbing finale of FYEO would scratch that Mission:Impossible itch quite well.

Cliff Stephenson

I think Tomorrow Never Dies can easily take #2, if we can remind people that TND has Michele Yeoh as a badass Chinese agent while TWINE has Denise Richards as a nuclear physicist. One of them now has an Oscar and the other has an OnlyFans.

The Roger Moore era of Bond is kind of like if your rich bachelor uncle decided to be a secret agent

2023-04-05 23:51:18 I love The Man with the Golden Gun and OctoPussy of Moore series Bonds. Obviously for Bond fans he had more gadgets and it was more silly with the stunts and why Sean is most favorite Bond.

I think whoever said to look at Bond as a "multiverse" thing made a mistake in telling you that. That really is not what it is like, at least until Daniel Craig. They are all the exact same character basically until Craig is basically a reboot [at least they are supposed to be, of course there are some inconsistencies in all the movies together but at least in theory they are all supposed to be the same Bond]. Bond getting married in the last movie IS referenced in future movies. Sometimes though this is a bit awkward since the movies go in a different order than the books though and the filmmakers didn't always make that part... work out smooth enough.

JPDotCom23

Ok, I'm just watching all these full length James Bond reactions with you guys now, so I am just throwing answers up now, someone probably already answered them but this is mostly for me. James Bond's history does continue throughout, sort of, only when a relevant piece of information is needed, do they touch upon it. For instance, Theresa's death is touched upon in 'For Your Eyes Only' , but only to tie it in with Bloefeld's death in the opening, I only mention that because you guys never watched it, despite my begging you to. They killed off Bloefeld's character (Without saying it's Bloefeld) because that character is tied into 'Thunderball', which Kevin McClory had rights to. McClory's story in the James Bond saga is a whole other story. And they mention Theresa's death because it was Bloefeld (nay his hench woman) who killed her in 'On Her Majesty...'. See, they bring things up about his past only when it's a relevant piece of info to the story at hand, savvy?

JPDotCom23

Kananga is not in the book, he is only called Mr. Big, but in the book, he's Russian. Kananga was created for this movie and named after Ross Kananga, a crocodile wrangler for this movie. The original books and movies are often quite different,

JPDotCom23

The guy who owns the boat, Quarrel Jr, is probably related to Quarrel, from 'Dr. No', who helps Felix Leiter.
