Hey guys!!

I have been a stress pot the last week. I told you I am a leader in a youth church CAMP coming up this week, and already I get so anxious leaving my kids, but I am not what you would call 'outdoorsy'. I feel bad because I have tender memories of camping growing up with my family but now realizing how much WORK it takes along with the smoke and bugs and lack of basic hygiene necessities. I need to suck it up though and do it for the mems.  Anyways just the pressures of herding, leading, organizing and inspiring (?) 13-17 year olds has got me quite frazzled.  All this to say, there will still be 3 releases this week but they will all be later this week (carly is gone on a work trip too so we couldn't bank up) more like Saturday, Sunday, Monday! I'm sorry! I'll try to do some posting from the woods on insta or patreon lens too.

In other news, we had a blast on instagram last night discussing the best movie names. The convo was brought up by Johnny Utah and Billy Chapel as of late.....Ok if there was a poll who has the most epic name (not character, name alone)

James Bond

Jack Sparrow

William Wallace

Rocky Balboa

Maximus Meridius

Thats hard right?

My kids are dying to see the new Spiderman, so am I I think? I took my littlest to the new Little Mermaid, considering she was done before the previews were over it was a bit too long for a 3 year old I think.  The new actress had an incredible voice, I wanted more from King Triton and I thought Eric was perfect!

This weeks movies all seem very different, but I'm so excited for each in their own way. Our polls wrapped up and next week will be DISASTER DAYS! Loved loved all the discussion on that post, makes me want to watch more than the top 3!

Lastly our PATREON POPCORN WITH BUTTER AND SALT LIVE WILL BE THURSDAY June 29th at 7:30pm MST! LIVE watch-along, movie TBD by special Poll for that tier.

Ps any suggestions for a 4th of July movie? I need to watch a hockey movie too eh? Stanley cup this week! GO canadian players ;)

So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, good night.

Cassie

Best of luck with the camp kids; you’re so kind that I know the kids love you! Oh, and you’re going to love BEHIND ENEMY LINES.

Bill Maurer

Quantum of Solace is the third act in Casino Royale. Another epic movie name : Ethan Edwards !!!!

Steve Colletti

For hockey movies, Miracle or Mystery, Alaska.

Joe Mallard

Good luck with the youth camp! I just started helping with my church's youth, just don't let them drive you too crazy, I'm sure you'll do great.

Brent Petty

4th of July: Watch Courage Under Fire.

carbsix

Born on the 4th of July....? Tom Cruise in a true story about a soldier born on the 4th of July...

Wu Sha Ling

everything is gonna be a special reaction, i can feel it

Allen Bond

How about The American President (1995) for 4th of July?

TinCan Cosmanaut

I’m glad you know.. but many think the 3rd (Daniel Craig) James Bond is the best of all. Either way I’m excited for the journey!

Jason Mackey

Nothing more American than the 1980 Olympic Gold Medal hockey team so I’d say get two birds with one puck..I mean stone in “Miracle.”

Ronny Boss

Dang you carbsix I was about to suggest that, then saw you beat me to it 😁 I would love to see a reaction to that

djKENTO

Would also go for Dave… back to back presidential RomComs?

TinCan Cosmanaut

If you want more from King Triton (little mermaid) then I suggest his best movie. No Country for Old Men Same guys wrote and directed that did Fargo

Brian McGovern

Make sure you have tissues at the ready when watching EEAAO. Even just watching reactions it gets the tears flowing at a certain point. Also a bit of head scratching trying to make sense of it all. Great movie though.

Mark Vaderr

I foresee some highly amusing videos of you in the woods. Also, there is no more of an epic movie name than Darth Vader. Although, Han Solo is a very cool name.

carbsix

Or you can go way back to 1981 Tom Cruise in Taps

Robert da Spruce

Wow! Camping with teenagers? Best of luck with that! 😀 JK. You’ll be fine. Hopefully the kids are old enough they’ll more or less take care of themselves. Making your job a little easier. So all you have to concentrate on is surviving the actual camping! 😉 As far as epic movie character names, I like Indiana Jones. Maybe throw another Harrison Ford character, Han Solo. Don’t worry if the reactions are a little later than usual. I am looking forward to all three though!

Night King01

Die hard with a vengeance is a good 4th of July film but I think your already doing that. A movie like Lincoln would probably be more appropriate

Mike Melfa

Perhaps “Born on the 4th of July” starring your buddy Tom Cruise?

kaiielle

Yep, camping can be stressful and chaotic, but this will be a great memory for the kids involved and well worth it for them I'm sure! I *still* have pretty strong memories of church youth camps that I attended back in like.. 1996-97. Not tent camping; it was an area with little cabins that had bunk beds in them and then a few dedicated buildings for meals and other activities. You'll do a great job! And no worries about reactions coming later in the week. I'm looking forward to EEAAO! Take care and wishing you the best.

Kat Farlowe

How about a 4th of July patriotic classic? A couple of great ones are Sergeant York starring Gary Cooper (1941) and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939) starring Jimmy Stewart.

Rainmaker203

I like this idea. I would add Yankee Doodle Dandy, Flags of Our Fathers, Lincoln, and the musical 1776.

ROBERT CLARK

Die Hard 4.0 it is set on July 4th. That has to be your Independence Day movie!!! I hope you get to see Die Hard 3 before then

Björn Von Knorring

I’m surprised you haven’t seen Miracle (2004).

Justtired

Mystery, Alaska for a hockey movie The American President or Independence Day for 4th of July or maybe National Treasure

LuMarq

If you get through "Die Hard with a Vengeance" this month, "Live Free or Die Hard" is set during the 4th of July... And so is "I Know What You Did Last Summer." "Miracle" and "First Man" are also good patriotic picks. EDIT: Speaking of Die Hard, I think "John McClane" belongs on that list of names

Robert Moore

Slapshot or Youngblood (Rob Lowe/Patrick Swayze/Keanu Reeves) for hockey movies.

sarCC

The new Spiderverse movie is incredible. Jaw-dropping visuals and really smart, funny, and emotional writing.

Wesley White

Behind Enemy Lines? Ha, that movie is so underrated, it's a good one though nonetheless! Best of luck on the camping for the kids! I saw the live action remake of The Little Mermaid recently as well, and I was not disappointed! Halle Bailey who plays Ariel, WOW, what a voice, something happened to me that rarely ever happens when someone sings, I actually slightly cried a little, her singing was just so beautiful lol! Glad to hear you and your youngest one loved it! I will most certainly be there for your PATREON POPCORN WITH BUTTER AND SALT LIVE, that's gonna be fun lol! As for epic name hmmm.... I'm probably gonna have to go with Aragorn Elessar either that or Thorin Oakenshield, can't help it me being a Tolkien nut lol! As for 4th of July/Patriotic movies, well, my line up I watch around that time, most of which you've already seen, are: The Patriot Glory Red Tails Saving Private Ryan U-571 We Were Soldiers Red Dawn Air Force One Independence Day So I would say either Red Tails, U-571, or Red Dawn would be good ones to watch! I'm just looking forward to see you react to the RAMBO films, word of warning if you get to the 4th and 5th installments, they are pretty graphic in the violence department, some of which I know you're gonna be turning your head away at a lot, so just a heads up! The first three, are pretty tamed in violence, so I'm certain you can handle it! Take care, much love and support, best of luck this week and next week, you're the best, and as always....... stay classy Cassie lol!🥰😁😉👍🌹

Jeff Mar

My 4th of July movie request would be the 4th Die Hard movie… “Live Free or Die Hard”…

Eric Wallace

"Born on the 4th of July"

Stick Figure Studios

A lot going on here. First of all, my recommendation for a good 4th of July movie is the one I watch on that day every year myself, one that I was introduced to in my high school history class (about which I was skeptical at first but eventually fell love with): it's called "1776" and it's a musical about the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Yes, you read that correctly. It sounds like an odd idea (and it is), but it really works. It's delightful, funny, serous, informative, inspiring and it was a huge influence on Linn-Manuel Miranda when he created his own Award-winning musical dramatization of American history HAMILTON. Check it out. Some interesting films coming up. EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE is going to be an experience for sure. Almost certainly the wildest movie ever to win best picture at the Oscars. That will be a fun reaction. BEHIND ENEMY LINES I've never seen. As for QUANTUM OF SOLACE, I don't want to paint your picture for you, but while it has its defenders, it is generally considered by most people (including myself) to be the weakest of the Daniel Craig Bond movies. I will say that it's good you're watching it so soon after CASINO ROYALE as it's still fresh in your mind because it continues the story of the previous film more than any Bond movie ever has (which was a controversial decision). I am very curious to see what you think if it. Anyway, keep up the good work. :-)

Bigjoemonger

For hockey movie it definitely needs to be Goon with Sean William Scott. For 4th of July movie I would pick Armageddon or The Sum of All Fears. They're not specifically 4th of July related but they get the American patriotism juices flowing. If you want a movie that satisfies both criteria, definitely Miracle.

Andrew Hogan

As already suggested, Born on the Fourth of July. There aren’t a ton of Hockey movies. Slap Shot Happy Gilmore (stretching on this one) Youngblood Mighty Ducks Rocket Touch and Go Mystery Alaska (pretty sure you’ve seen it) Cutting Edge (you’ve seen it) Goon Maybe a few other under the radar ones I’m forgetting I thought she’d seen Miracle, but if not then yeah, that one is probably the best of the bunch.

Joshua Stormont

So happy for you working with youth at a camp. Hope it’s an encouragement to you as much as it is for them.

Gábor Árki

I'm curious how the EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE reaction will go. It is the most unconventional movie I've seen in a long time and so unique that it didn't fully work for me for the first time. But it stayed with me and after seeing it again, it worked much better during a second watch. For hockey movies, I recommend MIRACLE (2004). Given the patriotic tones, could be a good fit for July 4th too, although it seems many are confident Cassie has seen it already. Alternatively, MYSTERY, ALASKA (1999) is fun too. My other suggestions for July 4th, if it's planned to be part of WMW series, FLAGS OF OUR FATHERS (2006) or GETTYSBURG (1993). From all these goodbye options I prefer "Auf Wiedersehen", because it means until I see you again. Much less permanent than the English so long, or farewell. 😀

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

I know you have a lot going on but a few of us have been wondering if there will be a package opening live soon? Definitely looking forward to every single one of these films. Also, so glad you liked the new Little Mermaid! I saw it twice, took mom one kf those times. I just fell in love with Halle Bailey. She was amazing. Everything about her was just pure goodness. I don't understand in this day and age why people still get backlash because they're black or Asian ir whatever. It's just so sad. Good luck with the camp, I'm sure you'll do great! I gotta agree with a few of the other picks and say Born on the Fourth of July and Live Free or Die Hard. I recommend the Unrated version for LFDH because it's not as choppy as the PG13 version. Anyway, best of luck and good vibes to you!

Mike LL

My first thought was Yankee Doodle Dandy, a patriotic flag waving 1942 biography of the Broadway showman George E. Cohan who wrote patriotic songs such as Over There and Grand Old Flag. Best Oscar winner for star James Cagney. But then I remembered where I was, in PiB Patreon where few want to watch great old movies. So I'm with Rainmaker and Stick Figure Studios with the great idea for another patriotic musical, 1776 (1972). Who can resist a singing John Adams and Thomas Jefferson?

Mike LL

I second 1776 (1972). My first thought was another musical, YANKEE DOODLE DANDY (1942) but few want to see great old movies like that. So 1776 would be fantastic for a watch, I fell in love with it long ago when I first saw it in the theaters. I've always wished that it's star, William Daniels, were in more movies.

Mike LL

I can well understand wondering how the reaction to EEAAO will go, being such a unique movie, and I'm almost surprised that I "got" it the first time I watched it. Definitely a movie that rewards multiple viewings, however.

The Middle Aged Gamer

Pls pls pls, Quantam of Solace is the worst Craig Bond movie

JL_83

I don’t know about epic, but here’s two movie names I really like: Keyser Soze, and Conrad Stonebanks

Michael Lynch

The hockey movie should definitely be Miracle.

Paul Stelter

Technically "Strange Brew" counts as a hockey movie, in addition to of course being extremely Canadian.

Stuart Guthrie Jr.

Don't worry I'm sure you'll do a good job with the youth church camp.

The Gemini Man

Slapshot with your Hansen jersey. Nuff said.

Christopher Smith

Isn't "Flight of the Navigator" a 4th of July film? I forget.

KDW 57

I don't know if it is actually a 4th of July movie, but whenever I want to feel good about being an American, I watch Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.

Matt Rose

As far as badass character names go, my list of favorites: - Snake Plissken (ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK) - Connor MacLeod (HIGHLANDER) - Maindrian Pace (GONE IN 60 SECONDS) - Anton Chigurh (NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN) - Rick Blaine (CASABLANCA) - John Matrix (COMMANDO) - Kaiser Soze (THE USUAL SUSPECTS) - Santanico Pandemonium (FROM DUSK TIL DAWN) - Broomhilda von Shaft (DJANGO UNCHAINED) - Sugar Kane Kowalczyk (SOME LIKE IT HOT) - Max Rockatansky (MAD MAX franchise) - Harry Callahan (DIRTY HARRY franchise) - Marion Cobretti (COBRA) - Chev Chelios (CRANK franchise) - Vic Vega (RESERVOIR DOGS) - John Spartan (DEMOLITION MAN) - Sarah Connor (THE TERMINATOR franchise) - Sutter Cane (IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS) - Angel Eyes/Setenza (THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY) - Stacker Pentecost (PACIFIC RIM)

Robert Jewell

My fave 4th movie is called DRUMS ALONG THE MOHAWK (1939) in beautiful Technicolor.

Kat Farlowe

1776 is one of my favorite musicals, as well as Yankee Doodle Dandy. Has Cassie even watched any musicals? James Cagney is brilliant in YDD. I think Michael Jackson learned some of his moves from him! 😆🕴There is a blackface sketch in it which may offend many, but unfortunately it was a very popular type of entertainment during the vaudeville era, in which much of the film takes place. You can't get any more patriotic than YDD! 🇺🇲

Juan Duchene

Youngblood or Mystery, Alaska for the hockey movie. Everyone will say Miracle which is great too but don't sleep on either of those.

Richard Maurer

EEAAO tends to work better if you just let the movie play out rather than question what's happening at every turn, as I've seen a lot reactors do. Which makes it a somewhat hard movie to react to.

Grad

Maybe Gettysburg (1993) could fit the bill. From IMDb: "In 1863, the Northern and Southern forces fight at Gettysburg in the decisive battle of the American Civil War." With Martin Sheen, Jeff Daniels, Sam Elliot and others.

Jeff B.

"Return of the Living Dead" (horror/comedy) happens over the 4th of July weekend. And there's a love story... kinda. Sorta.

Celeste McAllister

William Wallace is a historically epic name..for a hockey movie..Slap Shot with Paul Newman & the Hanson bros..Mystery Alaska w/Russell Crowe, you know you're going to have fun Cassie church youth groups can be a hoot! 'Thirty seconds over Tokyo' 1944, 'PT-109' 1963, 'Sophie's Choice' 'The boy in the striped pajamas' and most of all 'THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK'!! Please put the war poll on patreon..

Richard Maurer

Nice try, but the chances of Cassie giving that spot to a horror movie (even a great one like RotLD) are virtually nil. But I admire your efforts on behalf of the cause.

Ike

1. I am very envious of you going camping. I was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska in another life and now that I’m back in the big city where I grew up, I find myself missing it more and more - especially in Winter. I think when you get out there, you’ll appreciate it again and have fun. (For me, it’s the smell of campfire) 2. The best names have titles: “Maximus Decius Meridius, Commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions and loyal servant to the True Emperor, Marcus Aurelius.” (don’t see: Game of Throne for more cool names) 3. 4th of July Movie: Lincoln (Daniel Day Lewis). 4th of July Series: John Adams (Paul Giamatti, Laura Linney) 4. Have a fantastic camping trip! Enjoy yourselves. Teach kids something they never knew (find some celestial event or bodies - Saturn and Jupiter should be more visible this week and next)

Jeff B.

Well, it's my personal favorite, so I keep trying. Thanks!

Javier Hernandez

Epic names... Most Bond Girls have cheeky names Honey Rider, Mary Trueblood - Dr No Pussy Galore (real name Honor Blackman which is also good) - Gold Finger Kissy Suzuki - You Only Live Twice Plenty O'Toole - Diamonds Are Forever Mary Goodnight - The Man With The Golden Gun Dr. Goodhead - Moonraker Octopussy - Octopussy May Day - A View To A Kill Dr Christmas Jones, Elektra King, Dr Molly Warmflash - The World Is Not Enough Miranda Frost, Peaceful Fountains of Desire - Die Another Day Strawberry Fields - Quantum of Solace

Jennifer Medicus

Regardless, she should watch that movie. Maybe it could go under the war movies.... It's just such a good movie. Book is awesome as well.

Jennifer Medicus

Cassie - please just go have fun (fun? camping?) with the teenagers (fun?) and don't worry about us. You don't need to be posting from the woods. :)

Morgan A. Colbert

I think Daniel Craig has never looked as handsome as in Quantum of Solace. Sounds like needing a hockey movie is a perfect chance for more Kurt & Miracle, but even as I say that I think you might really enjoy the movie Mystery, Alaska, hockey a bit of romance & Russell Crowe!

Morgan A. Colbert

Holy smokes how could I forget love of my life Daniel Day Lewis. You should watch Lincoln!

Javier Hernandez

I believe it is Vincent "Vic" Vega (PULP FICTION) which is still in the Tarantino world. That reminds me - Marsellus Wallace. Snake Plissken is a good one.

Erik Daniel

I can't remember if you both have seen Miracle or just Carly. That would be my pick. As for a 4th of July movie I actually just watched one called The Way Way Back that I think you would dig. Coming of age, 4th of July, cottage, water park. Good luck with the camp Cassie, try not to get too frazzled. Those kids are lucky to have you, I'm sure you will inspire them just by being your wonderful self.

Marc Peterson

Hi Cassie. 4th of July suggestion....Ted Turner's GETTYSBURG. It is around 3 hours, could break it up to parts 1 and 2. July 1-3 1863, the battle that saved the Union. Fantastic story telling, based upon Pulitzer Prize winning novel The Killer Angels. Fabulous cast, Tom Berenger (General Longstreet), Martin Sheen (General Lee), Jeff Daniels (Union hero Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain), Sam Elliott (Fabulous as General Buford of the Cavalry). An intense study in the pressures of leadership and a look at the common soldiers on each side. July 4th 1863, after Gettysburg and Vicksburg, the war had turned and the American Union would survive. Best regards, Marc (Your Philly lawyer pal....where did you guys go for cheesesteaks???)

Marc Peterson

Gettysburg was July 1-3 1863...perfect movie pick. The movie based upon Pulitzer Prize winning novel The Killer Angels (Michael Shaara).

jdj830

Fourth of July movie suggestions: MR. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON, a fun, stirring political drama from the star/director combo of It’s a Wonderful Life; THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT, starring Michael Douglas with a script by Aaron Sorkin, a political love story that’s a kind of precursor to The West Wing; and, as a tribute to the great Treat Williams whom we sadly lost the other day, HAIR, the rock musical with a great score directed by the same man who directed Amadeus, that poignantly depicts the 1960s youth who created a utopian counterculture as a peaceful rebellion against the Vietnam War which in the end they cannot avoid. It’s a very American movie that finds its own way to be patriotic.

Konstantin Knopp

If you haven't seen it yet... you have to watch Miracle. So great and I love Kurt Russell in it. For a 4th of July movie I can recommend Zero Dark Thirty.

Rick Williams

For a hockey movie, Youngblood. Rob Lowe & Patrick Swayze. 4th of July movie Gettysburg. A very good historical movie on a very important 3 days in the history of America. Just have fun camping out with the teenagers. Don't over think it. Just enjoy nature and be yourself. You are a sweet, wonderful person. The kids will love you. As for names, Rambo & Rocky. Love them or hate them. Everyone knows these names.

Tara

I believe Keanu makes his movie debut in Youngblood as a hockey teammate of Rob Lowe and Swayze.

ShazD

Such a terrible bond movie lol

Matt Rose

I'd argue that, in it's favor, QOS is the best 'styled' of the Craig run of films. The production design, the wardrobe, all of it...just first rate. It all looks great, and Craig is probably in the best shape of his life in the film. It's also very well acted.

Matt Rose

Vic Vega is Michael Madsen in RESERVOIR DOGS. Vincent Vega is John Travolta in PULP FICTION. Per Tarantino, they are brothers.

Morgan A. Colbert

The first time I saw QOS in the theater I wasn’t a fan, but all these years later it’s my favorite Bond film. I could list the reasons why both the ridiculous and serious. This movie is a jam.

Matt Rose

I think it's over-hated. For all of its issues, there's still a lot to like in it.

mranderson

Might just be me, but what's the point of writing how bad a movie is before she's watched it? Isn't it better to write that on the post of the movie after she has seen it? I get that it's not a big issue for people not liking that specific movie, but it can be annoying for those that enjoy them, if that affects the reaction beforehand. Not that big of a deal of course, but still :)

Beddoe

Another great hockey movie is 'Slap Shot' starring Paul Newman.

Seymor Butz

Sandlot is one of the better 4th of July Movies. But alas.

Bill Bowman

On the 4th of July if you want to smile and feel good about America, " Yankee Doodle Dandy". The musical biography of George M. Cohan. James Cagney is great {He won the Oscar,}, the music is iconic, and it is pure Americana. To understand what a great actor Cagney was; watch " White Heat" as your next Cagney movie. You will not believe it is the same actor.

Terry Wood

Bad News Bears is a classic summer movie. 1776 is a solid musical about the American Revolution.

Steven Ashford

I’ve camped my whole life l, weeks on end sometimes in the middle of nowhere. My biggest issue now is sleeping, my body just doesn’t do well without my bed. Volunteered for high school camp myself. It’s been a while and they needed the help. Miracle on Ice for Hockey. Still can’t believe you haven’t seen that movie. Deep breaths. Take a thermacell for bugs!! Thats my go to now whenever I’m in the woods.

Bill Maurer

... and Michael Shaara wrote " For Love of The Game." a movie both Cassie and Carly enjoyed or loved.

Bill Maurer

Gettysburg was based on the book Killer Angels, written by Michael Shaara who also wrote "For Love of the Game." A movie both of the girls loved

Bill Maurer

Echoing what others have said already: Hockey: Slap Shot 4th of July: Gettysburg, based on the Novel "Killer Angels" written by Michael Shaara who ALSO wrote "For Love of the Game." a movie both of the girls loved. Great, yes long movie, on the 3 most important days in the Civil War and could be the 3 most important days in US history.

Happy Hanukkah

"Indiana?" What kind of a name is that? Sounds like something you would name a dog!

Jon Johns

I'm going to 2nd (3rd? 24th?) Miracle starring Kurt Russel for a hockey movie... And we'll, it might not be a "4th of July" movie, but, Born on the Fourth of July is Tom Cruise acting his heart out, and is an important film...

Jon Johns

I'm with you for QoS, with all the distractions and speed bumps they had to overcome, they produced a pretty good film.

Happy Hanukkah

"The pressures of herding, leading, organizing and inspiring (?) 13-17 year olds has got me quite frazzled." https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07TC9RQ87 You're welcome. For character names, I'm obviously quite partial to Harold Hogan. And how could you not watch a movie whose main character is Chance Boudreaux? No, really, how could you not?! And finally, Bic Mitchum.

Norrin Radd

Cassie's got kids. She's not too worried about our little peanut gallery.

Rick Williams

Keanu Reeves is in Youngblood? I don't remember him in it. It most have been before he was known. I don't think I have seen the movie sense the 80's. Hopefully Cassie will react to it so I can revisit it.

Mike Lemon

Going camping? I think it is time for me to suggest Ernest Goes to Camp (1987) again for a fun summer movie.

Scott Forney

The kids will remember you throughout their entire lives. Your example and testimony will be remembered. Praise God for your dedication and love for the children. A crown awaits your head from Jesus, for your love and service of the children. May God bless you!

John Liebling

What about Pride of the Yankees - Lou Gehrig's life story

John Liebling

His Cassie, what would be a fun poll for the future would be to look at various stars and compare their first movie to their last, or perhaps their latest. It would be fun looking at actors who started as kids, teens, or young 20somethings.

Mark Vaderr

I want to see "Popcorn In Bed Goes To Summer Camp." That would be most entertaining.

Happy Hanukkah

Best character name by far: Jean-Claude Van Damme!

Yaisu

You could watch Born on the Fourth of July with Tom Cruise.

Happy Hanukkah

No she can't. I'm sure Born is an excellent film, but Tom Cruise will be spending Independence Day at my legendary BBQ. :-P

Mike Carey

I would agree with others in that Born on the 4th of July would be an obvious choice for the 4th. I've never seen this one so I guess it would be a "First time watching" for both of us!

Larry Darrell

Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942) for 4th of July. Slap Shot (1977) for Hockey. Meatballs (1979) for Summer Camp White Water Summer (1987) for Camping and learning how to be a Camping Youth Leader.

Timothy Roberts

A good character name is Buckaroo Banzai.

Mike Lemon

There isn't "backlash because they're black or Asian ir whatever", there is backlash because it is a gratuitous, racist, and blatantly political race-swap. To use overused counter example, if Ryan Gosling was cast as the new Black Panther, everyone would, rightfully, lose their mind- see also the real kerfuffle with Scarlett Johansson in Ghost in the Shell. (new paragraph) There is also the problem of the prople that do the controversial race/sex-swaps use them as a sword and shield to bash their political opponents and then hide from any and all criticism, real or imagined. That "shield" is then overhyped and used as marketing making it seem far more prevalent than it really is. (new pararaph) Standard disclaimer- I'm talking colloquially, there are racists but they are such a small part of the real American/Western world that it is statistically nonexistent.

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

Sorry but that's a bunch of bullcrap. People use political agendas as the boogeyman for all their hangups. If you think about it, it's more racist for the originl animation to have a white mermaid in the Caribbean. Black Panther and Little Mermaid are nowhere near the same league or level or ballpark. To compare the two situations is like comparing racism and sexism. I also don't remember any backlash for Scarlett Johansson as Major, I only remember anime nerds saying "that's not like the anime" and non-anime fans drooling because Scarlett Johansson is blessed with a great body. The problem this world has, mainly this country, is that everything is labeled as a political attack when, in reality, that's an excuse people use to hide the fact they're crappy human beings and say it's all the opposing party's fault for making them that way.

Adam Doyle

Summer-y movies could be: The River Wild (Meryl Steep rafting action) The Sandlot (though you probably have seen it already) Summer School (Mark Harmon and Kirstie Alley comedy) Moonrise Kingdon (Wes Anderson's coming-of-age story) Wet Hot American Summer (All-Star comedy cast) 500 Days of Summer (a romantic movie perfect for a Cassie & Carly watch)

Mike Lemon

First, the Little Mermaid takes place in the Atlantic, probably around Denmark. Second, the fanatic "race-swappers" say it is political. Third, Ghost in the Shell controversy- https://screenrant.com/ghost-shell-movie-2017-scarlett-johansson-whitewashing-plot/

Biggman83

Isn’t that a 4hr movie as a directors cut? I love it, but even I have to do it in 2 sittings

Matthew Scarth

Omg, I would love to see Cassie react to 'The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across The 8th Dimension'! Such a fun movie!

Bill Maurer

Yes, Directors cut is pushing 4 hrs. But I think just the original cut will be just fine.

Larry Darrell

Three Names I didn't see mentioned... Mick 'Crocodile' Dundee, Marty McFly & Biff Tannen For the Women, I looked to one place... Shelby, M'Lynn, Truvy, Annelle, Clairee & Ouiser (pronounced Weezer)

Richard Maurer

@mranderson - People here, and in all reaction channels in general, try a lot of tactics to influence the polls both for movies they like and against those they don't. But easily one of the most absurd tactics is to tell Cassie's she'll hate a film that is already on a poll. Does anyone really believe telling her that she will hate a film will cause her to remove it from a poll? I certainly hope not, because that would be pretty silly if they did. More likely they're trying to influence other patrons away from the film they don't like, but I doubt that has that much of an effect either. Also, when it comes to violence in films there are people here who fancy themselves as Cassie's protectors, but they probably also don't really have that much of an effect.

Michael Gilbrook

I second that, "The American President" works on several levels but its message about what is special about American democracy makes it a good Independence Day choice.

Patrick York

Mystery Alaska hockey movie

Hockey movie has to be Miracle if you haven't seen it. Herbie was taken from us too early plus it's another Kurt Russell movie. But if your also following up on actors you previously liked then Slap Shot is Paul Newman (blue eyes). They still tell stories about the Carlson Brothers (played 2 of the Hanson brothers) up on the Iron Range in Minnesota. Those guys weren't necessarily acting much, at least on the ice. Steve Carlson (Steve Hanson in Slap shot) is listed in Wikipedia as having been Wayne Gretzky's roommate his rookie season and one of only 6 players to play with both Gretzky and Gordie Howe.

Most epic names in movies? Do we include Bond girls? On second thought better not.

CG Shunk

Epic movie names can't leave out Indiana Jones or Luke Skywalker, they were great names but how about Snake Plisskin (Kurt Russel, Escape from New York) or Buckaroo Banzai from The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension.

Gábor Árki

I wondered a few times whether Luke would be perceived the same with the original name Lucas intended to use: Luke Starkiller. I think he only changed it shortly before production. Same goes to Indiana Smith. 🤔

Looking forward to Behind Enemy Lines and QOS. I need to attempt another watch of Everything Everywhere, I just can’t get through the first hour without getting distracted

Just thought of a Perfect Movie for the 4th of July. Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)

Yaisu

@Happy Hanukkah so there'll be plenty of beer on the ride over then I presume.

Yaisu

@John Liebling, A year ago I think I would've agreed with you. But she's really grown and I think she could handle it.

4th of July is only one scene in the movie. Nothing to do with the story.

Tinkerbell

So excited for Everything Everywhere all at Once. It’s one of the best and most unique new films in awhile and it’s totally surprising. I do think it requires at least 2 viewings before forming an opinion because you can spend most of the first watch figuring out what in the heck you’re watching, so the second lets you really experience it.

I don't know where you get your selections and recommendations for polls but i would love to contribute. So, if you do read this for selections, i would love for you to react to "3 Idiots" it's a Bollywood movie and I think you'll love it!

Great 4th of July movie: Flight of the Navigator

JarHead0351

1. For the 4th July = The Longest Day ( it's about the D-Day - too many Stars in it to list them all) 2. Jeremiah Johnson - Robert Redford - about becoming a mountian man 3. Spy Game - Robert Redford & Brad Pitt - CIA Spies 4. Insideman - Drama | Suspense - Denzel Washington & Jodie Foster

2-Can

For the 4th of July - consider Gettysburg (the battle ended on July 4th - but be warned that there is only a single line spoken by a female). Or 1776 (a Broadway musical about signing the Declaration of Independence - have you done a musical yet?).

"All this to say, there will still be 3 releases this week but they will all be later this week (carly is gone on a work trip too so we couldn't bank up) more like Saturday, Sunday, Monday! " - the actual text in this very post

I'm confused Jon, how come when the U.S. finally beat the USSR in hockey it was a "Miracle", but when the USSR finally beat the U.S. in basketball, it was a "travesty" that ended amateurship in the Olympics? Just wonderin'.........🤔

Jon Johns

You're confused? Well, we wouldn't want that now would we...

I second the suggestion someone made for the movie Gettysburg. It's very long but an amazing film based on an equally great book, 'the Killer Angels'. Most of the ensemble cast is made up of Civil War reenactors who supplied their own costumes.
