Well low expectations=happily surprised at how much we enjoyed this one. Rage James was hot ;) So much action but the sequences weren't too long, a villain with a punchable face and M being the best mum ever, what else could we need?!  Sorry I asked so many questions in this haha

Night King01

I think there are some genuine good moments in this. Reading what happened behind the scenes. The fact that a writers strike happened and Daniel Craig was having to write scenes himself on the day of shooting a lot of the time along with the director and along with all the other production problems I’m surprised the film turned out in the state that it was in. Over the years It’s become just ok to me. I think going off what is the best bond movie and then seeing this the next year really had people disappointed. The only thing I can’t get over is the shaky cam quick cut action scenes. You literally cannot tell what is going on in any of them except that fight in the hotel.

Marko T.

This was made during Hollywood's writer strike at the time. They had a script but it wasn't complete so it needed some work. So the director and Craig had to do it by themselves during filming.

Mike LL

Strange having to put James Bond on the back burner, but I’ll have to watch EEAAO first! I did watch this movie once and really enjoyed it by forgetting it was a James Bond movie!

Night King01

To add on to some of the genuine good moments in this otherwise ok movie is Judi Dench, Daniel Craig and Olga Kurylenko as the Bond Girl. It is weird because I know she’s Ukrainian and thinking that they could get away with making her character be Bolivian by just giving her a tan really had me laughing, who were they fooling.

Night King01

The one thing I think everyone hates in this is the theme song. It’s absolutely out of place and just a terrible song in general

James UK

The movie does generate a lot of hate but I never minded it. It was always going to struggle in comparison to Casino Royale but I enjoyed it enough at the time. It ranks in my bottom 10 Bond movies, for sure, but not bottom 5. I’d rewatch it ahead of a few others.

christopher b swanson

This is a very underrated movie................it is 1st direct Bond sequel and it is the shortest runtime, which makes it fast but thin..........would have been longer but production was interrupted by a strike

christopher b swanson

is it odd i find it odd that cassie is on the right and not left lololol

Odd Thomas

What it lacks in story it makes up for with action. That opening sequence is chef's kiss.

christopher b swanson

and last as I get ready to watch this full out...............i think spectre was easily the weakest of his 5 bond films, sorry

Henry Graham

Yeah, they should have gone with this song instead. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6CoNUE5Zho

warcrimes

Wile it has its flaws this movie is underrated. Skyfall is great though. Can't wait.

Padraig Glennon

Jack White & Alicia Keys wrote & sung the theme song 😋. 🎺🎵🎶

Odd Thomas

Olgo Kurylenko is in Oblivion with Tom Cruise - great sci-fi movie you'd enjoy

KTVindicare

I forget just how bad the first half of this movie is lol. It gets better in the second half but that first act is just rough. Thankfully Skyfall the next movie in the series is a lot better and I quite liked Spectre as well even if it's not as popular as the other two big ones in the Craig era.

Odd Thomas

Here's my Craig ranking: 1. Casino Royale 2. Skyfall 3. Quantum of Solace 4. Spectre 5. No Time to Die

James1035

As most on discord know Craig is my least favorite Bond and I don’t not like his character or story arc at all. As for the movie it is in my opinion one of the worst James Bond movies in the series. Editing in the action scenes are terrible. You can’t tell what’s going on with all the shaky cam. The villain was weak and unmemorable.

Bill Maurer

Underrated Bond movie. They needed to clean up after Vesper before moving forward with Skyfall. This is part III from Casino Royale

Brian McGovern

I love that comment, “ A villain with a punchable face”.

Mike LL

Hoping that Carly is up for some duty in Disaster Days, either Dante’s Peak or Deep Impact or both! She would enjoy these!

Robert da Spruce

I’m glad you guys enjoyed it! I know folks, myself included, are just being enthusiastic with their praise of their favorite movies because they love them. But it often leads to overhyped expectations for you and Carly going into a movie. Especially you Cassie, as Carly doesn’t usually read all the comments before watching a movie. 😉 But so many people saying this is the weakest Craig/Bond in the series may have actually worked in it’s favor. As you seem to be pleasantly surprised. Looking forward to watching your reaction this evening! P.S. glad you survived the camping! 😉

Ike

I loved this reaction! Quantum isn’t my favorite of this series (the betters of this run have yet to come). I am equally happy for both your appreciations for -M-. Dame Judi Dench is the most regal actress of our time. “M” is integrated so well into these, I’m curious what you think about her relationship with Bond (because I never figured it out). Q: Is it strictly professional, because she will hunt him down and bring him in with extreme measures? Or is there a personal relationship developing because she does defend him to higher ups when he’s broken “the rules”? (I have an extreme bias toward Judi Dench because she reminds me of my late grandmother. Diminutive lady with short white hair, a sharp tongue and a smile that she rationed only for the oddballs and rebels of her children and grandchildren, like me:)

Mike Gallagher

Didn't the general say her mother was a Russian? But yeah just a tan and she's half Bolivian. LOL

Matt Rose

Glad you liked it. As I've stated elsewhere, it's a very well produced, directed, and acted film. It's really only the script (hindered due to the writer's strike) and the editing that let the film down. So many action scenes are edited to within an inch of their lives to the point of incoherence. The stuff that works really works, though.

Mike Gallagher

It is funny thinking about a 15 year old movie as a product of the times, but back then the shaky, quick cut action was all the rage. Also the dark and grounded take on the character was popular (The Dark Knight trilogy). One thing I miss in the Craig series was the fantasy element. They used to say about Bond "Men want to be him and women want to be with him". By humanizing him so much and grounding the bad guys we lost that. I don't want to be this tortured soul Bond. lol

Damien beatty

Any Bond movie that has both Olga Kurylenko and Gemma Arterton will get my attention. I love both these actresses. I am fine with this movie I think I have it in the middle of the Craig Bond's. I also love Matheiu Almaric as an actor he is great but his big bad is a bit mediocre.

Matt Rose

Almaric was saddled with an underwritten role. Again, blame the writer's strike. He did great with what he had.

Matt Rose

My ranking: 1. CASINO ROYALE 2. NO TIME TO DIE 3. SKYFALL 4. QUANTUM OF SOLACE 5. SPECTRE

Matt Rose

It's absolutely an epilogue to CR. The Bond character (or at least Craig's iteration of it) is complete by the end of the film. 'I never left' says it all.

Matt Rose

SPECTRE is the worst film of the Craig run. Apart from the great production design and some very strong individual sequences (the pre-title sequence is great, for instance), it's an absolute slog. Dull as hell.

Matt Rose

By the way, love your shoutout to THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY. A highly, highly underrated film.

Matt Rose

I also want to give kudos to the Italian cop in the opening car chase who, with only a millisecond glimpse, is clearly able to identify an Aston Martin and an Alfa Romeo. That is so perfectly Italian.

TwistedMagoo

I would say 1. Casino Royale 2. Skyfall 3. No Time To Die 4. Quantum of Solace 5. SPECTRE

Alex Gorell

I actually like this one more the Spectre which is the one I think is the weakest. But it isn’t great.

William Burnham

Olga Kurylenko was excellent in the brilliant The Death of Stalin A comedic film with Simon Russell Beale giving a stunning performance as the absolutely vile Lavrenty Beria Well worth a look 😊😊😊

Celeste McAllister

If this is the weakest DC 007,I can't wait for the strongest, good villain that Mr.Greene i enjoyed the irony of his demise, poetic justice and let the water flow for the people not for the greedy oligarchs, watch out for philanthropic they are not always the nicest sort..

James1035

Yeah that car chase at the beginning was so choppy that it gave me headache trying to keep up with it

Stick Figure Studios

Glad to hear that you enjoyed this one. It sounds like lower expectations probably helped. For me, this is easily the worst of Craig's entries. It has its good elements certainly, but the writers strike definitely didn't help the script and Marc Forster (FINDING NEVERLAND, KITE RUNNER) doesn't know how to direct action so he relies a lot on his editors and they really dropped the ball here with action sequences that are cut so quick they are virtually incomprehensible (the frenetic cutting doesn't just affect the action set pieces but also, bizarrely, the dialogue scenes with strange cuts that don't make any sense). Add to that a week villain (though played by a great actor), a stupid Bond girl (not Olga who was fine, but Agent "Strawberry" Fields), an awful song, uninspired opening credits (the only one since GOLDENEYE not done by graphic designer Daniel Kleinman) and you get a missed opportunity of a Bond film for me. This is is also the first Bond film that is a direct sequel to its predecessor which, for better or worse, ended up establishing the direction for the remainder of Craig's tenure. IMO that was a mistake and it's become such an unpopular decision that many, including myself, want a return to the more self-contained standalone adventures going forward. Anyway, looking forward to this reaction and REALLY looking forward to the next one, which is SKYFALL. That is arguably Daniel's best (though I still prefer CASINO) and I am confident you will both love it.

Celeste McAllister

We're not done yet with DC,for a continuation more than a sequel I thought this was great, the action scenes were incredible, not happy with what happened to Fields,I was calling her 'Strawberry Fields'..

Avastrasza

Oh my goodness... For you to quote The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.. That is my favorite movie ever!

Bubba Fett

The Craig's bonds stand apart from the others in that there is a sense of continuity from them. With the others you have picked and chosen what to watch, but it's worth watching all of his for the complete story.

Rick Williams

Good movie. Lots of fun. Lots of action. Great reaction ladies.

Richard Bourne

The odd numbers Daniel Craig Bonds are the best IMHO. I really loved Skyfall, and I think it was the biggest Bond ever by box office take.

Rollo Tomassi

One night I dreamed a dream. As I was walking along the beach with “The Descendants” (2011) staring George Clooney. Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life. For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand, One belonging to me and one to “The Descendants” (2011) staring George Clooney. After the last scene of my life flashed before me, I looked back at the footprints in the sand. I noticed that at many times along the path of my life, especially at the very lowest and saddest times, there was only one set of footprints. This really troubled me, so I asked “The Descendants” (2011) staring George Clooney. “‘The Descendants’ (2011) staring George Clooney, you said once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life, there was only one set of footprints. I don't understand why, when I needed you the most, you would leave me." “The Descendants” (2011) staring George Clooney whispered, "my precious child, I love you and will never leave you. Never, ever, during your trials and testings. When you saw only one set of footprints, It was then that I carried you." This message was brought to you by “The Descendants” (2011) staring George Clooney. It has beach scenes. 🥸

Mike Lemon

Apparently 3rd (Domestic, inflation adjusted, 2020). Thunderball ($590 million) Goldfinger ($514.7 million) Skyfall ($358.3 million) https://www.forbes.com/sites/travisbean/2020/04/18/all-26-james-bond-films-ranked-at-the-box-office/

ROBERT CLARK

Skyfall is the next film. I personally say it's the best Daniel Craig Bond film and my 2nd favourite Bond film in the franchise behind Goldeneye. I hope I don't set your standards too high Cassie & Carly!!!

Richard Bourne

OK, but that is only Domestic. Internaional, Skyfall is the only Bond to break on Billion. Skyfall ($1.111 billion). Just scroll down a little further in your own article. Also, you are making my point we need an encorce Bond, Thunderball.

Eric Wallace

I was genuinely worried you were gonna sit on the wrong side of bed lol.

Richard Bourne

Thunderball wasn't perfect, but it was ahead of its time in so many of scenes, esp. underwater. When I was a kid, I knew a family that bought the same exact speed boat from Thunderball. Funny thing, the Bond movie people were actuallly contacted about the mini-underwater breather ... and of course it wasn't actually real.

Rick Williams

I liked the movie. I liked the 5th Craig Bond movie the least of all his Bond movies.

Russell Teo

TBH, you can just skip to NTTD.

Mike Lemon

Because "international" really wasn't a thing until recently (no China), including that is comparing apples to kiwi. "we need an encorce Bond, Thunderball." NO!!! This thing has gone on far too long already.

Richard Bourne

True, internation was far less of a thing. My understanding is movies in China only make back 25% of the gross BTW. China just rips us off, and they don't respect copyright anyway. We saw both TD Bond movies and now all DG Bond movies, so I think we need ONE encorce, and let people vote. My second choice there is FOR YOUR EYES ONLY.

Brian Lowery

It really is just a nice coda to the Vesper Lynd story. Casino Royale Part 2.

Hat

Mike, not sure where the anger is coming from. But, gross earnings to gross earnings is an apt comparison. Regardless, seems a little silly to complain because people are excited/enjoying themselves and want more. It's just a YouTube channel.

christopher b swanson

thank you, it is the same thing my Bond bestie and I thought at the theater, spectre committed 2 crimes, wasted a great bad guy with a dumb ass twist, and committed a cardinal sin of a Bond movie...........its fucking boring

Uncle Phoenix

Didn’t Audrey Hepburn play a Kiowa? It’s kind of believable that she is half Russian and half Bolivian. (Especially since most people accepted that Sean Connery and Jude Law were passable as Russia military hero’s)

Richard Bourne

? There is not anger here. We are just talking facts. Thunder was a HUGE Bond movie, bigger than Goldfinger.

Night King01

I mean I don’t think anyone accepted Sean Connery they just said oh it’s Sean Connery and gave him a pass. And in enemy at the gates they didn’t even try to give them Russian accents. Plus I’m just poking fun I’m not being serious.

Mike Lemon

@Hat- "Mike, not sure where the anger is coming from." What are you talking about? The tired of the million sequel movies that take up so much time instead of having some variety? Marvel, Star Wars, Rocky, Mission Impossible, Bond- that is what, 60 spots out of 235ish. It's a lot. "It's just a YouTube channel. " It's also a Patreon.

Tinkerbell

Whew..we made it through QoS-time to move to Skyfall! Skyfall is really one of the best Bond movies-not just of the Daniel Craig era, but of the entire franchise. Might be time to explore of the acting treasure that is Judi Dench. She has a long and impressive filmography-some of my favs: Belfast,Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, notes on a Scandal, Mrs Brown, Chocolat, Shakespeare in Love, Iris, Ladies in Lavender, 84 Charing Cross Road, and Room with a View.

Mike Lemon

@Richard- "so I think we need ONE encorce," I don't. I say end it now, and let's have some Indictment: The McMartin Trial (or Radio Flyer, Last Unicorn, City of Angels, Princess Mononoke [patreon exclusive], Alive, MASH, anything but another long series or what everybody else has done), but she has committed to all the Craig Bonds, so, please, just get it over with.

Richard Bourne

I disagree, the PIB girls cut out a lot of great Bond movies, give us ONE encore by vote.

Stick Figure Studios

Are you serious? NTTD would make no sense without SKYFALL and SPECTRE. Plus, SF is actually really good. Not great advice.

Ben Livingstone

Overall, this movie seemed to work surprisingly well, though I can understand the complaints. The pacing worked not too bad, but there don't seem to be that many memorable moments, and the action sequences are definitely shaky and overcut. Just shows that writers aren't only there to provide dialogue--the shape and feeling of the story are in their purview, as well. Stupid of the studios not to negotiate with the WGA, knowing how TV and movies suffer without writers!

Christopher B.

I don't care if anyone thinks differently: Quantum of Solace is either the second or third best Daniel Craig Bond. No Time to Die is by far the worst.

Sean Stuart

I don’t get all the hate for shaky cam. If shaky cam is that hated why do so many love the Bourne trilogy? It’s not my favorite way of shooting action but I don’t need to see everything to get the gist of what the action is trying to say. But I never feel lost and it is exciting.

Andy Bodkin

you two switching spots totally confused me haha

Andrew Rose

While Sean Connery will always be my favorite Bond.. I think there's something to be said for Daniel Craig playing the best/most believable and relatable version of James Bond.

Dazman

I think Skyfall has become a bit overrated and, whilst I enjoy it, I can't quite see how it has captivated people. Will have to see what the ladies think!

Stick Figure Studios

While I don't particularly like to even think or discuss films in terms of "overrated/underrated" (because I find that's not really talking about the movies themselves but rather talking about people's opinions of the movies), I will say that I do think SKYFALL is overrated by those who say it is Craig's best (which I still maintain is CASINO ROYALE) or who call it the best Bond film of them all. It's neither of those things, but most people do recognize it as a great Bond film because it is certainly that. If nothing else, it is the best "looking" Bond film of them all due to the stunning cinematography by the great Roger Deakins. At any rate, it will be interesting to see what the girls think. I am confident they will love it.

Stick Figure Studios

Like any other kind of filmmaking/storytelling technique, it can be effective in the hands of those who know how to use it (such as Paul Greengrass who did the Bourne movies) or it can be a crutch for lazy filmmakers to hide their incompetence in staging, shooting abd cutting decent action sequences. Sometimes it is the former, but mostly it's the latter (particularly the more prevalent it became). There's an excellent video essay called "Chaos Cinema" that really examines the whole "shaky-cam/quick-cutting" phenomenon and what it both contributed to and took away from the action genre.

Cassie Tremblay

I haven't fully decided yet but i think i like the story continuation element. The editing was very shaky and cuttie, even noticed by someone who never would notice editing i dont think.

Stick Figure Studios

@Popcorn in Bed - To be fair, the story continuation element doesn't really start to become a problem until later on in Daniel's run when attempts to tie everything all together would lead the writers to start coming up with some pretty lame retcons (i.e. "retroactive continuity," introducing new information that significantly changes something about previous stories). People have speculated that this was in response to the growing MCU, DCEU and other cinematic universes. I think they're right, but I'm not sure that works for Bond. Anyway, very interesting to see what you think of his subsequent films.

SeanATX

I think the word you were looking for instead of "cartoonish" might be "cheeky".

Michael Weiner

Watch the original with Danny Kaye as suggested above. It's so much better captures the spirit of Walter Mitty, and Danny Kaye is a delight (you saw him in White Christmas with Bing Crosby).

Snapjaw

I actually never really liked this one, but watching it again with you guys, I really loved it! Maybe I just payed more attention this time? I always thought this one was boring before.

Gilbert Gonzalez

Can’t wait until you get to Skyfall! That’s probably my favorite Daniel Craig one, just an absolute banger all around!

aarswft

Late to the party but this is one of the movies that kind of defines Craig's tenure as Bond, in the sense that his movies are best when viewed as a whole instead of as individual stories. This one was received very well, but ended up playing a pretty important narrative role in both the overall setup of the criminal syndicate he's been chasing, as well as a big step for Bond's character growth.

Clay F

I liked this movie. Watched for the first time while watching your reaction. I like the story. I like the Bolivia (actually Chile) settings. I like the Bond demeanor. I like the Bond/M relationship. I like how beautiful Gemma Arterton and Olga Kurylenko. Olga Kurylenko is stunning -- her character an agile beauty. I like the Jack White/Alicia Keys theme song. By the way, I like Gemma Arterton in Summerland (2020). Now onto your reaction to Skyfall -- a movie I took my teenage kid to watch in the theater at release and very much liked.

JPDotCom23

This is only the fourth film in the franchise where Bond never says "Bond, James Bond"
