While I don’t like most of this episode, I must say the ending is a real standout. Gohan’s lament over what he’s done is a rather compelling moment despite being more subtle and silent. Not many story beats like it compared to what you usually find in Dragon Ball.

9:05 Looks like there was a minor mistranslation here. In the dub, Goku suggests that there exists a Planet Yardrat in U2 while in the sub he says, “That was Universe 2’s Yardrat”. Not too big a deal but the implication kinda messes with how twin universes are supposed to work.

I remember a lot of my friends like scoffed that they unnecessarily showed Obni's family as he was eliminated, but I think it goes to show that the stakes are at the highest they've ever been. I thought the same thing since Gohan just recently became a dad he might lose his will to fight, but it also sparks his as he has his own family to protect. Like a reminder that he's also fighting for Videl and his newborn Pan.

Goku using 17's lines just shows that they are basically the same since I don't think Goku heard 17 say that to Kakunsa as he was basically out of bounds. Also always glad to see Piccolo's Hellzone Grenade, which is the move he did to Rubalt before telling him to get out of his ring. I also agree, I hated Frieza and 17 didn't catch my eye, but Super changed that by giving them both much bigger roles, and allowed Frieza to be extremely sassy and not just to be detestable. 17 being on the good side and not a piece of shit also helped his character, even if I prefer it when he's alongside his sister.

As y'all saw from the first playthrough of DBZ Kakarot, Gohan has always had this kind of innocence, even now as an adult. It's something I always liked about his character. But y'all are gonna LOVE the next episode, it's one of the best in the arc in my opinion!

Beth & Ken fyi if you guys ever wanted to fit in a short dbz movie anytime to react to, at your convenience. I highly recommend reacting to the "Bardock: The Father Of Goku" Movie; 1990". It's a must watch one of the best dbz movies of all time. You get a peak of Goku & Vegeta's childhoods. I highly recommend reacting to the movie also with the "Funimation/American music. As a girl born in Kyoto Japan, even though i love a lot of the Japanese ost as well. The Bardock movie is done better with the Funimation ost in my humble opinion. It also might be a great movie to watch before you start OG Dragon Ball because it can lead you right into the series.

I thought the same thing. Wait what, there exists a Yardrat in Universe 2, especially since he had the same fit as Goku when he returned from Namek. Not sure what they were thinking but it is what it is.

The whole "only 37 minutes remain" gives me "this planet will blow up in five minutes" vibes from all the way back in the Frieza arc. Frieza's promise: "The planet will blow in five minutes!" Actual number of episodes before it blew up after Frieza made that promise: 10 full episodes. About three hours of television, excluding intros/outros and recaps. I won't say how many episodes the TOP runs for (because spoilers), but I will say time sure does work in funny ways in the Dragonball universe.

It was jarring to see as it gave things a bit of a darker tone, but that is also a good reminder for the gravity of this tournament and what you are saying makes complete sense as a motivating factor for Gohan.

Yeah, we love Gohan's innocence and sometimes scholarly aloofness. It sets him apart from his dad in a way that allows them to differ and compliment each other.

We think your exactly right, but that's also what makes it all the more disturbing. That combo of adorable children paired with universal destruction keeps us as the audience on edge. Very effective story telling!

The girls sound effects are left over side effects from JP voice acting they tend to they tend to have lot more grunts and stuff involved in there fighting recordings sometimes unrealistically so, and it never really fits well when translated i English voice actors. Like someone else pointed out before though the girls are a purposeful over dramatization of the magical girls genre of the anime worlds Time always has always moved slowly during the big matches
