I've watched Jiren vs Goku no less than 100 times after having seen so many reactions and obsessively replaying it on YT as a teen. Now then, LET’S GO!

These two episodes mean a hell of a lot to me as someone who grew up with DBS as their ongoing DB series. I've watched Jiren vs Goku no less than 100 times after having seen so many reactions and obsessively replaying it on YT as a teen. Now then, LET’S GO!

Sumitomo really cooked here. So much of the music here is among the best in the series imo, those of his tracks that are both introduced and reused. “Fierce Battle Against A Mighty Foe”, “A Secret Plan with One’s Life on the Line”, “Unwinnable Battle”, “Ultimate Battle”, and of course Ultra Instinct’s Theme, “Clash of Gods”. So fucking good.

"Clash of Gods”, the violin theme playing as the fight between UI Goku and Jiren is ending, became one of the most iconic tracks in all of Dragon Ball. So many fans would be able to recognize it on just the first note alone. It inspired so many memes too, bringing the hype of Dragon Ball outside of just the immediate fandom.

In one of the biggest deviations, the manga handled Goku’s awakening of Ultra Instinct much differently. Instead of the whole dramatic Spirit Bomb struggle, Toyotaro had Master Roshi be the one to teach it to Goku. Roshi remarks that Goku had not yet truly mastered “himself”, and reminds Goku of all the values that his previous mentors had tried to instill in him. Roshi then demonstrates to Goku the Turtle School’s value of being able to “move well” by instinctively avoiding attacks from Jiren. Doesn’t mean that Jiren was getting pushed by Roshi though, as he just eliminates the old man with a neck chop. Jiren says to Goku that if his master still has lessons to teach him, then a man like him will never be perfected. Goku responds to Jiren by saying “Perfected? I don’t want that… cuz that would mean stopping. Standing in place while I’m always aiming higher. And my master’s as good a teacher as ever. I was the worst apprentice who never listened, but it’s thanks to that old man that I got stronger. So even now, I’m Son Goku… of the Turtle School. While Roshi being able to dodge Jiren is still off to me (the gap in pure power from even a mildly serious Jiren should’ve compensated for any difference in muscle memory), I like how Ultra Instinct’s status is emphasized as being the mark of a master martial artist and not just another plain power boost.

At last we’ve reached Ultra Instinct! Arguably the most praised thing to come out of modern Dragon Ball (besides Beerus and Whis). It’s easily the closest modern Dragon Ball has had to a “Goku goes Super Saiyan for the first time” moment. It’s a moment in fiction that you will never be able to justify how hype it was when it premiered.

The battle between Goku and Jiren had broken Crunchyroll when this special premiered due to overwhelming user traffic. While the promise of Goku finally facing Jiren was already enough of a draw, promotional material and the episode preview in episode 109 had given us glimpses of this new “Ultra Instinct” form that Goku was going to get not long before the special’s debut. The DBS anime was still a good chunk ahead of the manga at the time, so we had little idea of what was in store.

I love how Goku’s ultimate form is that of turning his greatest weakness (being too relaxed) into his greatest strength. Unlike many transformations in Dragon Ball, Ultra Instinct actually feels like a true mastery of combat and martial arts and not just a glorified power boost. While the form is still cool in the manga, I really think its power can only truly be portrayed through the fluidity of Goku’s dodging in animation.

The day is here!!! The hype surrounding these episodes on the day were so insane with the crazy marketing they did for the TOP in general and when they premiered this special most of the streaming sites like Crunchyroll and VRV were down due to overload from how many people were trying to watch it. I really hope something similar happens with Daima but this is some of super’s best moments on display here

Also this isn’t a hot take or anything but I really wish they used the Japanese version of ultimate battle (the theme that plays when UI starts fighting) instead of what we got for dub 💀

They are both fine, but obviously the original had a better fitting singer with a more raspy rocker style sound. The Dub va/singer of this song also did the intro which he sounds much better in. So its not really the singer's fault and more the casting of him specifically for the role.

Yeah I love nate as much as the next guy but his version did not hit those same hype levels as Akira Kishida’s version did but like you said it was casting at fault instead of himself

2024-11-19 22:19:39 35:30 Alright, enough of my gushing, there’s one slight issue I have with this special (particularly in the dub): I’m still not a fan of the dub’s cover of Ultimate Battle, the song with lyrics. Imo it just doesn’t match the intensity of the original. One could say that the song was already cheesy before, but there’s just something that doesn’t click the same with me. Nothing personal against the vocalist ofc, I just don’t find his voice to have the same kick as Akira Kushida’s. Maybe give it a listen (only until after you've finished DBS)

So in the original broadcast version of these episodes, they were actually edited together to, in fact, be a one hour special. Included in it, was roughly an additional minute of footage near the end of 109. In it, it showed the Grand Minister having to throw up a barrier and it actually showed Jiren struggling to push the Bomb back. Unfortunately that footage is gonna probably be lost to time, since all streaming services, and physical releases have the episodes separate. As such, I don't think it was ever dubbed either.

Welcome Autonomous Ultra Instinct, my favorite form just ahead of God. Completely forgot to let you know that 110 just goes straight to the title card. I personally didn't see this air, but I heard it all over at school the next day, it was something big. From the fake outs of Goku's potential death to the revelation of Jiren and then Whis going on about trying to get Goku and Vegeta using the Autonomous Ultra Instinct technique. One more thing, the reason many didn't know what Goku was is because this form is exclusive to Goku, Autonomous Ultra Instinct is a technique not a form, but of course Goku makes it a form. Love that Autonomous Ultra Instinct theme; dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun. You'll always hear it when anyone dodges attacks. That tease of Frieza standing over Goku, you'll see it in Kakarot and you'll recognize the line Frieza days to Goku once you get to it in Kakarot as well. At least I'll remind you because, it's so good.

Clearly this is one of the better episodes to come out of super. An iconic scene to be sure. Definitely not as iconic as going super Saiyan the first time but better than moments such as Vegito being born. Hardly anything comes as close. And it leaves us in such a cliffhanger. Hit facing Jiren and Freeza having Goku under his control.

They nailed the sense of spontaneity in this tournament. You get baited into thinking it’s a Ribrianne episode, then you find out it’s a mega showdown with a new form. You can go through slower events then things can crank up to 11 all of a sudden. Making short term predictions was impossible on my first watch. Also Ultra Instinct is probably my favorite DB form of all time

Pretty sure these episodes were streamed on pornhub back in the day as all the anime websites were down for the whole day (don’t ask me why I know that)When people say anime breaks the internet this was the one to actually do it. I couldn’t watch this episode until the nighttime when all the hype died down a little.

Yes! not only was it painful to wait every week but so many people were streaming this episode that it shut down the sites. Crunchyroll & all other streaming sites, including the illegal ones had to make public apologies. Some of us were even trying to watch it on the illegal sites but so many people were finding those too & those sites would also get too much traffic & shut down lol. I personally couldn't even watch the episode until the next morning. It was hell! Going website to website to try & find hope smh

The one they've been using since 2018 had him in SS Blue, probably to be more representative of the whole franchise instead of just Super. I'm so glad to live in a world where I can officially celebrate Dragon Ball and Thanksgiving on the same day.

So something that is often debated is the “stronger mortal than their own god of destruction.” It seems to be talking about Jiren and Belmod. But is the “strongest part” that is debated. The manga elaborates on this point a bit. I’m the manga it seems to be talking about skill as a martial artist. If Jiren and Belmod were to fight with equal strength then Jiren should win, being the better skilled fighter. But since Belmod is god of destruction he should still be able to win. A point that strengthens this idea is something that happens in the beginning of the Granolah arc. I won’t spoil what happens but Beerus shows how strong he is. With this display he should be able to still have no trouble with Goku or Vegeta. Which supports the “Jiren being the better fighter rather than a superior” idea. Of course we won’t know unless it is directly stated.

So now that ultra instinct has been finally revealed I want to tell you that the final part in the intro song in which the Red aura flashes before goku and he gives a cocky smirk which you thought was like Goku Black's smirk is actually is the ultra instinct form of goku

In Japanese it's called Migatte no gokui which literally means The Secret of the Self-centered but it was translated in the English sub as ultra instinct However they call it autonomous ultra instinct in the English dub to fit the lip flaps better. Same reason why vegetas original “it's over 8000” was changed to “it's over 9000”. Ultra instinct is too short for the animation lip flaps and would take some magic to make it line up which is why the English dub added "autonomous"

Yeah, I think it's a common opinion that the English dub didn't have the same energy as the Japanese version. There's an english YouTuber who did vocals in the same style as the Japanese version. It's quite good 🙂

This is a "Full Watch Along Reaction" which means you sync your own stream of dragon ball super with theirs. I pull up DBS on Hulu and then use the picture-in-picture button on the bottom right of their video on Patreon to overlay their reaction on top of the dragon ball super from Hulu. Hope that helps. Unless you can't see their reaction at all then I'm not sure.

BEST...EPISODE...YET!! When I first saw this I lost my mind, like it's insane how well the writing was done in this episode, so kudos to the creators! I did hear somewhere that this was supposed to be the match where Jiren was eliminated, because at the time Top (or Toppo) was supposed to be the main antagonist of the arc. Glad they made those changes in my opinion. And yep, welcome to the Ribrianne Hate Club! Now we can all agree that Ribrianne is the equivalent of stepping on a freakin Lego. But no worries, she's gonna get her due, and you'll be surprised at who does it lol

But they do the same with other reaction that aren't made by toei I guess it's just thier gimmick although the only problem I have with this is that I kinda like to skip boring dialogues in the show, but I guess I just have to work with it

I think it was more to do with Goku's ultra instinct running out than jiren powering up more as you can see just before Goku landed the final punch at 00:19:30:20 on your timer, Goku's eyes weren't silver anymore and were black so Goku lost the form just before landing the punch Also I do really like how serious and calm Goku is in this form and I like the detail whenever Goku screams or yells in this form you can hear the oozaru ape's roar with it

So we know some other reaction channels leave in the show, but really, it's all copyright infringement. even us leaving in the audio would be as well which is why we have backups of everything in case we ever get flagged so we can reupload without the source audio. But it's less likely a company would come after us for just showing the audio because no one is going to skip out on a Netflix, Hulu, et.c subscription just to listen to the show on our Patreon. We've heard/seen other Patreon channels get flagged and taken down for a time or permanently for showing the video. Just depends if you get on their radar or not. And after we got hit with a copyright strike on Youtube from showing an abridged show that other reactors show as well (SAO), we are a little more weary. (also for this episode we mistakingly left in more video then we meant to, but don't think Toei would come at us for one episode and if they did, reuploading one episode isn't too bad versus having to reupload a 100 episodes 🤗

And here we have the only problem with the dub... the song that plays during Ultra instinct doesn't hit anywhere near as hard in english, sorry nate but your voice is way too high. Also the audio mixing kinda weird
