Full Watch Along Reaction to Dragon Ball Super Episode 129

JT

We’ve reached it. This new and complete iteration of Ultra Instinct is what we refer to as “Mastered Ultra Instinct” (or MUI for short). In this state, Goku is able to both dodge AND attack with pure instinct whilst getting a power increase. As for the previous black-haired iteration, the DBS manga coins it as “Ultra Instinct Sign” (though we used to call it Ultra Instinct Omen before we got the former from Viz, which I miss bc it sounds way cooler). A fun little fan theory is that the angels all have white hair bc they’re perpetually in the MUI state.

JT

Holy shit the next two episodes. Hell, the next two movies! I’m about to go ham the next two weeks lmao. So much I have to say!

Shadowpunch13

Whoever decided to give Ultra Instinct, its own version of One-Winged Angel was a goddamn genius.

These last eps are insane Vegeta’s speech 🔥🔥🔥🔥 I also think Vegeta shows us in this episode his pride in Goku at this point in time. Goku has basically been an inspiration for him throughout their relationship, a goalpost to chase in terms of power and growth as a warrior, and it’s now Goku who has reached this pinnacle of might, mastered ultra instinct. Vegeta’s pride in being a saiyan is based on his belief that saiyans are the ultimate warrior race, and that pride is what pushed him to push Cabba to grow. But now it was his friend (although he’d never admit it) who has reached this new height of greatness, as a saiyan. I think Vegeta would just call it saiyan pride but I think we can infer Vegeta is very proud of Goku, a warrior he’s known for so long, has reached this. So much so that he would tell off a destroyer god for doubting him. I think Vegeta obviously has a ton of pride in himself, but also a lot in Goku as well, and sees Goku as the prime example of what makes Saiyans “the greatest warrior race”. Vegeta knows his own growth is because of Goku, which we saw in his speech at the end of the Buu saga.

JT

Come on now, we all know his name! Norihito Sumitomo ❤️‍🔥🔥

Christopher Lovejoy

This man Goku did something not even experienced Gods of Destruction could do for thousands of years, and Goku did it in less than an hour. Saiyans truly have no limits!

Shadowpunch13

My secret hope is that the exact instructions he was given were, "You need to make it recognizable by its first two notes, nothing else will suffice."

JT

20:24 I FUCKING LOVE DRAGON BALL!!!!

JT

I find it to be a small miracle that you two have managed not to get spoiled on MUI by now. When you two said that you had watched the Summer Games Fest show last year (where MUI was shown off briefly), I thought that would’ve sealed it. Not to mention the moments you saw it during your earlier DB game reactions. On top of that, merchandising hasn’t tried to keep it a secret anymore. MUI Goku is front and center on the cover art for Sparking Zero, on the cover for one of the DBS Blu-rays, and has been made into many different figures/statues. Pretty lucky, I'd say! Wish I had you're ability to forget things when you have little context to them. I see so much as a hint/glimpse of a spoiler and that shit sticks with me forever. 🫠

Jeffrey F

I love the Zennys but they getting a little annoying now lol

Moises Martinez

Just give us the rest 😭😭😭 lol

Anthony De la rosa

WE MADE IT what a great reaction guys the end def was my fave part Goku is just so cool

JT

30:17 "Last two episodes right now" Well, we're all here on Patreon.... SO WHERE THE HELL ARE THEY!? 😂 jk

Cynergy

The design of MUI is so beautiful, Goku looking like an actual angel brings tears to my eyes. I'm glad Beerus stopped the constant commentary from the bleachers, it's so bloody annoying to listen to lol. The moment when Goku spawned a whole galaxy beneath his feet was truly spectacular and the destroyers standing up for Goku achieving a level of power that they have spent milenias trying to achieve, in an hour was just fucking amazing. Love love this episode.

Serpent King

I generally like OG DB and Z both more than super. Ranking the sagas between the 3, the ToP saga ranks probably at #3 for me (Cell at #2, Namek at #1). That being said, these last 3 episodes are my favorite in all of dragon ball, bar none.

Kev

Yall can skip the intro if yall want or do people complain about that too lol

REDE

Couldn’t you have just finished the last three episodes in one go? Hoping you release them this weekend because Super is being removed from Hulu in 9 days. Your reactions are synced with the Hulu version of Super which has black screens for ads which unsyncs the video if you happen to be using a different platform to “watch along”

C. Brown

Please react to the last 2 episodes on Monday it doesn't make sense that u do 1 since ur gonna be left on a very big cliffhanger

C. Brown

They probably saw it without knowing and didn't know what form it was because the show ended a long time ago so there's no way they didn't see it atleast once

JT

Oh they absolutely saw it. It was in a lot of their early DB game reactions back when they were just getting into DB. Hence why I said I wish I could forget seeing things like that as easily as they can lol.

Blake Hinton

They’ve been getting annoying for a while now tbh. There constant repetitive dialogue gets old after a while

feltskate ._.

Waiting for your reactions to these episodes feels just like it did in 2018 having to wait every week.

Hayden Morris

I agree about the U11 angel (Marcarita) But her dynamic shifted throughout the tournament. During the first half she was very wary of goku and vegeta and always trying bring belmod back down to earth. But now she's agreeing with everything he says for some reason lol

J Sal

Vegeta basically told Belmod "I SAID LET...HIM...COOK!!!" Great speech by Vegeta and man, the Mastered UI transformation and the gods standing up gave me goosebumps when I first saw this. The writing for this episode was just immaculate in every way and why this fight is in my top 5 favorite of all in Dragon Ball. And I agree, the angel (Marcarita) definitely has a straightforward dynamic with Belmod compared to Whis/Beerus and Champa/Vados. I will say though that she has my favorite character design among the angels. Can't wait for these last 2 episodes next week, and I do have to ask: do you guys plan to watch the first 2 Super movies before starting Daima?

JT

Most likely. The Daima dub hasn't started on Netflix (stupid ik) which is what they're waiting for. Plan is to have Daima reactions alongside their other DB content, likely on Sundays.

Chad Mancillas

I think part of it is U11 angel knows nothing about saiyans, as opposed to beerus, whis, and vados. I think most people would have the same assumption that goku would not be able to achieve that so quickly. Especially since destroyers can't even do it and they've had millions of years to train to do so, so why would a mortal be able to achieve it in a few minutes basically without any practice

Osio

Finally we're here, HANDS DOWN Goku the FUCKING GOD

GamerViewer89

With only 2 episodes left, there are 2 DB Super movies that take place after the show. 1st is DBS: Broly and 2nd is DBS Super Hero.

Zaid

The way beerus describes complete ultra instinct as it's getting revealed slowly with Goku's shirt disintegrating and him emerging out of that white bright light was so awesome Also I just realized Goku doesn't speak at all this whole episode besides saying Kamehameha which is rare considering Goku is happy-go-lucky but it shows how much Goku had to lock in to gain complete ultra instinct

Vinayak Murthy

Interesting that you brought up the Dynamic of the Universe 11 Angel and Destroyer. Their Dynamic has been Inspired by Joker and Harley Quinn. That's why she looks like Harley Quinn and he looks like Clown

Asuka Yousei 妖精帝國

I think what makes Goku a great martial artist is that he never drowns in his loses. Goku lost against android 19, lost to raditz, lost to beerus, couldn't finish his fight with Cell and passed it to Gohan & yet he never loathes in those loses. Goku doesn't win every single fight but he wins spiritually, he grows from those loses and it never breaks him. I'm so happy Whis was proud because for a very long time, whis was trying so hard to let Goku know his over confidence would be his down fall & vegeta is such a gifted speaker now. Silver haired Goku is everything🤗 & once you guys watch OG DB you'll be even more proud of Goku. The Gods standing up in his honor still gives me chills. If there's any anime character that deserves the gods praises it's Goku. He's the grandpa of Anime 🤗

Ash

Oh don’t you worry Bethany I grantee that next episode will blow your mind. It was nothing we were expecting when it came out, and it will leave you itching to see the next episode. I think you guys will definitely enjoy it.

Jesus Leos

Beerus death battel can't wait

Gus

It gets even better from here. Believe it or not 😉

REDE

How is that a good thing? “Oh boy I hope I have to wait just as long as the original release!” Who tf takes a full year to finish a single series 💀

feltskate ._.

I didn't say it was a good thing, but I also don't really mind it taking them long, I'd rather they enjoy it their way instead of rush just to finish it.

definitelynotdefinitive

Yeah it's one of those things where you don't notice it because you don't know what to look for. Wish we had your ability to remember everything though. You must get have gotten straight As in school 😀🥳😜

JT

That's the annoying thing! My memory's only THAT good when it comes to spoilers. It's subpar with just about anything else 😅

Hohoho

As much of a dick as Belmod (clown) is, I liked that he kept his full composure while Vegeta badmouthed him. Shows that he’s kinda chill

Hohoho

OH I’m so happy you brought it up! The reason you felt disappointed in the first half is because most of the footage this episode was banked animation, which means sequences that either never previously made the cut, or sequences reused from previous episodes. Each of those sequences itself is high quality, so it’s not as egregious as it could’ve been. They did this so that this entire episode would need nearly 0 new animation sequences, and so that they can focus all their limited time on the next episode, 130. As you’ll see, episode 130 was the best animated episode of DB at its time. It only got dethroned recently with Daima, where the staff had two YEARS to work on each episode instead of the WEEKS they got for Super. Same people, different schedules. Suffice to say, the best animation sequences in Daima absolutely decimate the best of OG, Z, and Super. It’s sad Super got the most unfair schedule in the entire franchise, but the fact that they pulled off episodes like 130 is a legendary feat, and something the Super crew should always be respected for. It’s always nice to see the underdog prove itself and come out on top.

Hohoho

A few episodes ago in the arc, there was a scene that made it super clear Vados and Whis hated the universe 9 angel’s guts. I guess that foreshadowed that she behaves differently to them. She’s clearly a lot more subservient

Hohoho

I am a relative newbie to DB, having watched bits and pieces of Z as a kid, but entering the bubble proper by stumbling upon the ToP mid 2024, and then working backwards. I remember Ultra Instinct being mentioned passively in one old power scaling video I watched in 2020. I didn’t think much of it, but when I began watching the ToP, I had a weird gut feeling that the UI thing I saw from 2020 was gonna appear. Lo and behold. Still didn’t ruin it for me. Shit was too cool to be ruined 10/10

JT

Mid 2024, huh? Must say, for someone so new to the series you're pretty knowledgeable about it. Big respect 😁!

Hohoho

Honestly, I’m only that way with Super. My knowledge of Z is pretty lacking. I never ended up watching the Cell or Buu arcs because I naturally got spoiled on their events having watched the sequel, and their pacing and vibe didn’t allure me as a guy in his early twenties. I massively prefer things that make me laugh, and any attempt at being edgy kinda cringes me out nowadays. I only watched Super because I wanted to hate on it, so it’s a massive irony that I ended up enjoying it so much that it’s the only DB series I watched front to back. I’m working through the the original series atm, and I saw a chunk of GT, and the entirety of the Frieza saga

JT

This is so funny to me 😆. As a guy who's also in his early twenties, I find that I've got the opposite stance on just about everything you described lol. I've been a DB fan for just over a decade now, so I went into DBS as a kid hyped up that I was getting to experience a new ongoing DB series. Seems like we're almost two sides of the same coin haha!

Hohoho

That’s cool! I should note that, of course, I’ve seen all the important scenes in just about every arc of every show in the franchise. I still wouldn’t count that as a faithful watch-through. But it’s cool that you experienced the franchise in real time!

JT

Well, only real time for DBS and Daima 😝. Getting into everything else was rather fragmented since I had no money (or any concept of streaming beyond Netlfix).

Robert Traeger

if you havent noticed by now, the Zeno's are meant to be a place holder for you, as in the audience irl.

REDE

So you are aware that you release the vids for Super like fucking molasses? Paying extra to see reactions quicker and then taking a year to finish one series is insane 💀
