my understanding is that all of the previous Witcher bits have been before the night M- I mean Nilfguard attacked Cintra. and Yennefer has looked the way she does now for at LEAST thirty years.

Angie, season one is very much a non-linear story. Although we don't meet Yennefer until episode 2, her beginning is the earliest bit in the narrative time line, for instance. The non-linear structure is one of my favorite elements of season one - it makes the show incredibly re-watchable. I've watched it thru 4 times now and there's always new moments and new connections to discover.
