In 2008 (yes, I took these photos 15 years ago...) I didn't live in Barcelona all the time, but sometimes I was there for a few days. And sometimes I went to the nudist beach of the city.

A few meters away from me lay a young naked woman and, how could it be otherwise, I immediately noticed her unshaven triangle between her legs, because that is an exception even on the nudist beach. I gathered all my courage and approached her about it and asked her if she would model for me once for some photos.

It really took a lot of courage for me. It's a funny situation as a slightly over 50-year-old man to approach a naked young woman completely naked and then still come up with my topic. In addition, I hardly spoke Spanish at the time and had to explain with my few words what I wanted. But the reaction was very positive and already a few days later she stood with me in the apartment for a photo session.

I had my very first digital camera back then, a so-called "semi-professional" model from Canon, with a resolution of just 1728x2304 pixels and a plastic lens that was so light that you had to be afraid it would fly off if you detached it from the camera.

Only I was worse than the camera. I really had zero idea about digital, didn't know about image formats, didn't even know what RAW was... and so I shot the images in JPEG format and left the corrections to the camera. That's why I have only compressed JPEG's, which contain no other information and whose colors and contrasts are practically uncorrectable.

My own terrace was at that moment still empty, without plants, and although I later often used it for photo sessions, it didn't inspire me at that moment - and probably I was still a bit shy because of the many neighbors who had an unobstructed view of it (something I didn't care about at all later). That's why I went with her to the roof, where the windows of an administration building had an unobstructed view - but the employees of the municipal administration are so engrossed in their strenuous work that they surely don't look out the window. Or not?

These are special memories for me. As a more or less typical Swiss, I didn't know the Spanish mentality one bit. I was used to performing confidently at home in my studio, but here in Spain everything was different and the language barrier didn't make it any easier.

When I look at the pictures from my early days in Spain now, I'm actually quite happy despite the limitations.

That's why today I'm posting the full photo session without any changes to the images, exactly as the camera captured them, no selections, no retouching. I think, apart from the charms of the young woman, this is quite interesting....

Here is a preview of the first part on the roof.
