Yendaevi lore (Patreon)

Yendaevi is one of the main planets from goblin controlled space, home of 25 billions people.

Its geography is composed of 70% emerged territory and 30% seas, with a largely temperate climate. It would be a pretty average world in that category if it wasn’t for its high geothermal activity - no planet has as many volcanoes. The planet has two moons, named Thiclite and Sephinda.

It was colonized a couple millennia ago during the first waves of goblin expansion, when faster-than-light travel was discovered, but before neoclidian engines were invented. The first settlers chose to establish a colony on the planet because the geothermal activity provided a lot of easily accessible energy, but the industry development really took off when prospectors discovered how rich in vendurite and gallicite the three asteroid belts in that system were. Since then, the asteroids have been completely mined to the point of being hollowed out - the only remaining trace of their exploitation is a trace amount of residual radiations.

The local fauna of Yendaevi has pretty much disappeared due to the competition for space with goblins, but the high seas have surprisingly been left relatively untouched and several endemic species are still there. Don’t think this is thanks to some environmental law - it’s actually because two branches of BIGG, the omni-firm, have had series of trials about which of the two should be granted the right to exploit marine resources for centuries, and the case has become so complex neither is able to win it, resulting in a complete stalemate. Only a few smugglers and poachers illegally fish there - it's been tolerated since the upper class has made it a status symbol to eat it, so the authorities turn a blind eye on it.

As the number of Yendaevians grew, the two moons of the planet have been terraformed in huge networks of caves where all sorts of mushrooms are grown. The deeper the caves, the higher the cost of the mushrooms it produces. Mushroom prices often are a key element during negotiations between unions and BIGG.

The industrial nature of Yendaevi means several BIGG branches have their headquarters there. Through vertical integration, a lot of them have acquired or created EATs (Exploration and Acquisition Teams), which have benefited from the neoclidian engines getting better, since it means systems further away become candidates for exploration. EATs are only a small fraction of the spaceships based on Yendaevi, the huge majority of them being spacetrucks, transporting raw material to, and finished products from the planet. The spaceport is known for being huge and maze-like, but still crammed with people, from warehouse workers to pilots and traders. Underground trains carry everything one can think of.

Goblins from the upper class of Yendaevi tend to leave the planet in favor of luxury stations around the outer asteroid belt, in order to use a loophole in the yendaevian tax code. That belt still features a lot of (now generally harmless) radiations from back when the mining operations were still active, but after generations it has turned the skin color of some families to blue.
