I honestly never did elf on the shelf as a kid so hopefully I captured the tradition well enough lol. Basically from what I gathered from my research on the tradition, the elf is placed in silly scenarios by the parents while the kids are sleeping so when they wake up, they think the elf is moving around during the night getting into mischief. Kind of like gaslighting but fun I guess lol.
