Since I posted that timelapse drawing of Kara yesterday, here's one of Babs.

This one is a little humbling as you can see me struggling with her face and pose until about the half way mark where I decide to literally reverse the image and switch gears. Then she started coming together rather quickly.

This happens with me all the time. Generally, the lengthiest part of any drawing you see from me is just figuring things out. Occasionally I get lucky and everything comes out exactly like I want. Typically though, I have to begin with a scribbly mess until the drawing tells me what it wants to be. It's one of the main reasons I don't do many convention sketches anymore because I just don't have the time or luxury of doing that on paper (especially in someone's sketchbook). I need to look into maybe some slight style changes to work around that this summer.

Anyhoo, once I eventually DO figure things out and find myself in a good groove, I have a great deal of fun. I love learning new techniques; pushing myself in areas that probably only I see improvement. It's mostly what keeps me drawing and playing with slightly different approaches/styles. Hoping to get better at this craft one sketch at a time.

Have a great Tuesday! 💜

I’ve never expected a perfect drawing in my sketchbook. I've always loved the…immediacy of a sketchbook drawing and watching an artist work. That's the pleasure. The art and the story that goes with it.

You aren't the first to tell me that. It's just tough when I'm not able to give someone my best work. But I need to remember that. Thanks. :)
