I never thought I’d see Tony do a youtuber apology themed video 😭 Jokes aside, I support this decision 🤘

Dario Lizardisilva

Totally agree, if you not liking it or not into it there's no point on going further, better to avoid the "how can you not like this if it's a masterpiece" conversation. Maybe in the future but not the moment. Looking forward to see the poll for replacing anime ✌️ Please be Psycho pass I'm here because the music btw, anime reactions is a plus!

Roosp

I agree with/understand everything you said. I also have similar feelings about FMAB, too. I'm sure that people will appreciate that you gave it a try (I did) and that you you made this video to explain your thoughts. It's great to hear your honest opinion. As for suggestions, I'll list three that I'd like to see you react to (and I also think that you might like): Erased One Punch Man (from the creator of Mob Psycho) Nodame Cantabile (comedy about college music majors, and looking for music jobs after college!)

Enjo

Completely agree and I second Psycho Pass, specifically the first season as that is the best part of the story and it is a "finished story" in the first season so it's not mandatory to continue. It does have some moments that might be a bit too much, but I don't think they should be an issue.

Phrygian

you can replace FMAB (2009) with FMA (2001) jk

makotheQ60

FATE ZEROOOO

Andrew Muggleton

Tony, your reactions are great for their honesty! I love FMAB, but 100% agree that you drop if you aren’t jelling… it’s always something you can always pick up on your own time. Regarding suggestions, Neon Genesis Evangelion is a total classic and something different from what you’ve watched. Huge potential for loving and also not liking element 😂 but it’s ridiculously influential for a reason. As for something currently airing, I think you’re enjoying Apothecary Diaries, and an anime which has a similar vibe is Yatagarasu which is currently releasing. Devilman Crybaby is something dark but amazing. Oddtaxi is another quirky, funny and cool show. Link Click is an underrated gem with awesome vibes. To Your Eternity is also a pretty stellar show with mostly fantasy vibes. Main picks with be Neon Genesis or Devilman. 👍🏼 keep up the awesome work, love what you do! Tangents forever.

makotheQ60

Tony should start an ASMR channel 👀

Szayel H

I'm personally here because of how honest you are. If you don't like something, you'll outright say it, even if it hurts hearing it when it's something you personally like. YouTube is filled with all these fake or hypocritical reaction channels and it's tiresome. That being said I'd definitely want to see Fate/zero as FMAB's replacement

Nick K

Totally understandable, could tell this was impending. I also think people shouldn't have to pinpoint why they don't like something, because you are not attacking it, it's just not for you. We won't all like the same stuff. It's healthier for the community this way being honest.

AussieBoy

Im definitely here because of your insight into music. Rewatching a lot of these shows with my ear on the music is super fun and your reactions to stuff like Sound Euphonium are super informative and fun! Definitely support this decision you gave FMAB more than enough episodes. Anyway I would either recommend Cowboy Bebop or Evangelion if you wanna replace it with another OG :D

An Nguyen

couldn't agree more. Reactors are filled with people who over embellish or who try to "give the people what they want to see". But I'm here for authentic reactions to see what other people think or feel about things I enjoy

AussieBoy

Definitely agree with Evangelion, OddTaxi and Link Click all of them are great

Anthony Cano

Good for you. You gave it more than a chance with 30 episodes. It just wasn't meant to be. I get what you mean with the "maturity or not feeling like the target demo" some anime do that. Here's a few replacement recommendations. Romantic comedy- Wotakoi Sci-fi action- cowboy bebop or ghost in the shell Action Horror for October- Hellsing or Hellsing ultimate Action comedy- one punch man

Sarai

My recommendation would still be the Chinese animated series Link Click. Like Stein’s Gate it also deals with time travel just in its own unique way. Underrated series. I was gonna recommend Spy x Family in a future poll; although it is “kid friendly” it’s still a hilarious anime with great action and adult themes. However don’t know if it would stick but it’s worth a try I guess xD

Nick K

Just copy/pasting this from a recent comment of mine. I guess if you agree with one specifically reply with that one and if others do too they can like that. None of these have jokey DS or FMAB moments where the animation suddenly changes while characters do a comedy routine If you're looking for serious/thriller recommendations my top pics would be -From the New World - potentially my favorite anime story, based on an award winning novel, based in "utopian" future kind of like the famous book Brave New World, it's a bit of a slow start but very worth it (kind of like S;G in terms of where it goes later) where you just get some world building but once you're invested it goes wild places. 25 episodes -Parasyte - probably one of if not the best horror/action anime there is. Not much else to say. 24 episodes -Psycho-Pass - another "utopian" future society, but it's setup like a crime thriller. First season is a perfect show that works well on it's own, but there are followup seasons and movies that have had varied reception and are not needed if you are content at the end of season 1. 22 episodes (1st season) -Inuyashiki: Last Hero - this show is all gas no breaks, you start with a main character who's a like 40 year old man who looks 70, living this just depressing life, and next thing you know crazy things are happening and everything is on fire. Intentionally vague because it's a short series so could easily spoil otherwise. 12 episodes -Ghost in the Shell - super iconic sci-fi anime masterpiece. You should start with the first movie that came out in 1995. Top to bottom it's pure art and probably right up your alley. After that there's another movie, and then you can move on the anime series with Stand Alone Complex which has two seasons.

Szayel H

I'm not going to name channels but a I'm tired of them saying they like x and y right? And then they would say the complete opposite in other videos. Being soo disingenuous. I hate that shit

Sarai

Wow, another comment from a Link Click fan?! Such a sight for sore eyes 😭

Xoulium

Giving the show 30 episodes out of 64 is a very uncommon thing from what I know of the anime community. Usually people tend to give a show 3 episodes to see if they like it, of course varying with show length, and that would be 1/4th of a 12 episode anime, and you got half way on a quite long one. Of course this doesn't really fit in here considering this is patreon and you watch things being suggested, so you can't really just drop every show after just 3 episodes. However, this was all just to say that dropping animes is incredibly common.

Bautista

Tony's dropping FMA??? Finally, something we can use to cancel this guy! He's been too clean. Jokes aside, if your patreon didn't start with it, it won't end with it either. If you don't fuck with it it's better to drop it instead of watching something you don't enjoy. I'm sure FMA fans would prefer it that way.

Frizen

Definitely here more so for your input than any specific show. I'm an artist so watching anime I'm more focused on the technicalities of the art and animation but your reactions have led me to start focusing a lot more on audio when watching and its really interesting learning more about that stuff. For recommendations in line with more of your tastes Parasyte: The Maxim is pretty awesome and weirdly underrated.

d_swordfish

I have many titles I'd like to see on your patreon. But I would try to select one per recommendation video. Dont think that now we have a chance to start FMA_03, so it out of table. After thinking a bit my recommendation is: GTO - Great Teacher Onizuka. Despite it is a great old-school anime (as I like!) this is a great blend of comedy and some deep thoughts. It contains a lot teacher-schooler relationship things, so maybe it will trigger some memories/stories from your background. It is pretty long (43 eps) but nothing after them. It is fine to have 1 ep per week and chill with it like you do with JoJo, the story is conducive to this. The only thing to keep in mind before start - first episode is 48 min long.

neZiiak

Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex (Top 5 anime of all time for me)

Nick K

I feel like One Punch Man would be the natural successor to when he finishes Mob since they're the same creator, rather than doing them concurrently

Esthefano Sebastián

New poll 🤑 My suggestions would be: 1.- Fate (only the seasons made by Ufotable, since they follow the same storyline and direction). 2.- Odd Taxi. It's been a while since I watched Fate, so I can't say for sure, but I think you might enjoy both shows. Also, just my personal opinion here: I don't think you should try as hard to like a show as you did with FMAB. Even if the story gets better later on, it's likely to keep the same vibe/essence/direction. If you don't like it at the start, it’s probably just not for you, and you should consider dropping it. Even if the first half of a show is bad and the second half is good, I’d still consider it a bad experience overall.

I think the wost thing you can do to the integrity of anything you do is forcing yourself to enjoy something you don't. Or I guess doing something you don't want to do. Do what you will man, thanks for keeping it real.

Jet Man

It's my all time number 1. It's got that brain protein.

JD

I am just going to leave this here. Also Psycho Pass, but someone has already left that as a suggestion

Martin Lamaze

Sad to see it happen but your points are very valid ! There's a world of content out there and to be stuck on certain series for their popularity or alleged greatness would be a shame. Personally I looked forward to your reaction to this anime because I always found its music great, but 30 episodes in and everything that could be said was already said. I think it is very important that we keep placing emphasis on music here (which you are obviously doing, thank you for that) and that wasn't very compatible with FMAB.

Water

Attack on Titan!

CdrCain

Agree 100%. If you aren't digging, its a good idea to move onto something else. Honestly, I had a hard time getting into some of the OG Shonens myself. Even as a kid I couldn't really get into certain types of characters. That being said, FMA was one of the few older Shonens I really enjoyed but I think its because I watched the original FMA first. Honestly, I always feel like FMAB isn't always great for first time viewers. FMAB basically speedruns all the character introductions because they want to rush to get to the "new" content because most people that wanted to watch FMAB when it came out were fans of FMA. So they only do the most barebones explanations and character intros so the story can stay coherent, knowing most people already have seen those parts. I feel like most FMAB fans have watched both and aren't really considering how less of an impact the early episodes have for new viewers who haven't watched FMA. I've watched several FMAB reactions and I always feel bad that the reactors never really get to experience the characters the way they were meant to. Most fans seem to just tell new viewers to watch FMAB instead because they only remember the 2nd half and how it followed the manage and consider it "better" because of it. I've always thought its much worse for new viewers of the series IMO. I don't know if you would have kept watching it if you had started with FMA first, but I feel like it does a much better job of getting viewers to get invested into the characters. Regardless though, curious to see what the next show is for you and hope you enjoy it more!

Sean

I saw some previous comments before mentioning it but personally I would like to see you react to the fate series. It can get kind of convoluted because theres so many different series but my own recommendation would be: Fate/Zero 1st and 2nd season, Fate UBW (Unlimited Blade Works), then if he chooses to watch more it would be the Fate/stay night: Heaven's Feel trilogy.

Taylor

Really appreciate your honesty and transparency, Tony. We all have anime we try out and end up not liking whether it's mainstream or obscure. Make sure to keep watching what you enjoy! I'll suggest Ranking of Kings

P_ateric

I subbed for music reaction and found additional value in rewatching and discovering new shows. Please feel free to add and drop stuff. For replacement anime suggestions, Monster will be a nice addition for some exciting drama that I think you’ll like. Another choice would be Haikyuu. A sports anime that gave me interest in volleyball, a sport I never touched before.

Thunder Nut

You're without a doubt the most authentic reaction channel I've EVER come across. Props to you for sticking to what you believe and being truthful about your opinions, I think that's a really rare thing in the content creation space. That being said I am sad you're dropping FMAB as to me and many others it DOES have a really good story to tell with really well written characters, especially the antagonists. It also feels a bit unfair to say that nostalgia is the only reason this show was recommended to you as it does have a value added story with themes that are important and impactful and meaningful to a lot of people. FMAB was the highest rated anime ever for a very long time on MAL, nostalgia alone didn't put it there. But again, not every story resonates with everyone the same, we enjoy what we enjoy. I understand that FMAB's method of delivering that story can be grating if you don't vibe with it's type of comedy. Vinland Saga is one of my favorite anime of all time as well, but it's delivery is obviously very different to FMAB's. Keep up the honest reactions with whatever replaces FMAB! Edit just in case it wasn't clear: 100% support your decision with this. You gave it much more than a fair chance.

Taylor

And Garden of Sinners

Shawtty

Trust that we have all dropped anime before. Some just aren't for all. We get it. As you find what you are into I'm sure we can find an anime that goes with it 🤣

SKAOG

Yeah, it was visible that you weren't enjoying the show (i do think the change from dub to sub that late didn't help). I felt the value of FMAB was finishing the complete story and how everything ties together in the end, but it is completely fair to drop it if you aren't enjoying it enough to wait for the payoff. Edit: It didnt help that you weren't able to binge the show. I was able to binge it and had a lot of free time, so the context was fresh in my mind and i was proerly immersed I would LOOOOVE Hunter x Hunter (2011) to be on the poll, goated narrator, fleshed out plot with characters i could connect with whether the were "good" or "bad", and incredible OSTs as you know, given that you've mentioned that you have listened to some OSTs in your own time. One Punch Man would also be great, i think you have watched enough anime to understand and enjoy the parody that is One Punch Man, and it is by the same creator as Mob. It's also pretty short, so it's a relatively small time investment

Niklas Neumann

Strongly support Psycho Pass (as i wrote in the community chat :D). I Think Tony has a much better time with Anime that present interesting ideas that are presented in a serious tone than Anime that are too mainstream and have a lot of typical Anime tropes.

SKAOG

I would LOOOOVE Hunter x Hunter (2011) to be on the poll, goated narrator, fleshed out plot with characters i could connect with whether the were "good" or "bad", and incredible OSTs as you know, given that you've mentioned that you have listened to some OSTs in your own time. Please do like this comment if you agree with my suggestion (posting this as a separate comment in case people disagree with my point in the other comment)

LegionaresCZ

Yes! Tony would nerd the fuck out over Fate and DnD similarities, and the animation was a test bed for incorporating 3d and 2d like we have in Demon Slayer now, it's a piece of anime history AND it kicks ass!

Xoulium

I would like one Berserk (1997) please :)

P_ateric

Fate’s a good choice but I don’t think going down the entire series is gonna work. Fate Zero would be a good test tho

SKAOG

One Punch Man would also be great, i think you have watched enough anime to understand and enjoy the parody that is One Punch Man, and it is by the same creator as Mob. It's also pretty short, so it's a relatively small time investment

LegionaresCZ

Oooh I love Erased, maybe put it on the vote after Oshi no Ko though, similar mystery hook with fantastical elements.

An Nguyen

Completely understand the decision Tony, I know it wasn't easy since it looked like you were wrestling with it for a while. Shows you might enjoy instead: Promised Neverland (s1 only) Neon Genesis Re:Zero (This one I'm on the fence about because I think you'd like the overall story but might get annoyed with main char)

Klarin Black

Absolutely second this, If we're lucky Strange fake will be out too by the time tony finishes up with UBW and HF after it

Sean

Yeah that's fair if he ends up liking it though I was just putting it out there that i'd rec going from fate/zero to fate/ubw.

HE_Herman

Land of the Lustrous!

Lichrin69

I'll say it Fate Zero, it's something I think you will enjoy as it is more adult centered

Arsenic805

All props to you. Lots of reactors have dropped shows, you're not the first and won't be the last. There's a wide range of anime out there, and you're not gonna like all of them. Just keep it real with your audience, don't worry about dropping stuff. Me personally I'm here for you Idk about anyone else but seeing what shows and types of character you like and don't like helps me gauge what to recommended next. With that being said, I noticed you like fantasy type stuff. Highly recommend checking out Fate/Zero. I feel you'll enjoy it

LegionaresCZ

I liked another comment suggesting it but I must seriously rally for Fate Zero! Kick ass animation that's basically a piece of anime history, pretty good mature story and characters that will have you drawing up character sheets. + if you like the Fate universe enough there are indirect sequels for more Fate stuff, but the story also stands alone well if you don't.

Joe

No worries man, dropping anime is part of the culture. The sheer diversity of genres and stories that the medium covers just means that there's tons of stuff out there that's for you, but also tons of stuff that's not for you. Personally, I subbed to the Patreon for your music anime reactions but found that I enjoyed your reactions to all kinds of other stuff as well. You've got a good spread.

Arsenic805

Haikyuu would be interesting. Volleyball isn't the most popular sport but the overall message of that anime is growth and team work. Would like to see what Tony thinks

Taylor Mitchell

Definitely gained more respect just for being honest and respectful of the fans. As a big fan of the show it would have been a bummer to see you have to sit through the rest without enjoying. Now there's more time to find even more good shit just like Vinland Saga

Arsenic805

Yes! Absolutely would like to see him react to the UFOtable Fate series!

Kinrenka

Sports anime: Haijme no Ippo (one of the best sports anime despite it being fairly old school) Isekai anime: Re:Zero, Overlord Action/Historical: Golden Kamuy (if your feeling like you want something a little more historical, but still filled with lots of action and good story line) Mecha: Mobile Suit Gundam Witch from Mercury, Mobile Suit Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans (if you want to start your journey into the mecha/Gundam universe, I watched these with no prior knowledge/research and found them very enjoyable to watch, especially Witch from Mercury) Totally understand dropping anime you're not 100% invested in. as a lot of people, including myself, have dropped their fair share of anime.

Klarin Black

I mean the entire series is too long, but I think tony would definitely enjoy the core series (Zero, UBW, HF) and potentially Strange fake too (given whether the Anime will be a good adaption)

Arsenic805

I think Spy family will be a hit or miss for him I think but I'm all for it, 4th!

makotheQ60

Bro imagine he gets to watch two insane visual experiences at the same time his mind is going to literally pop out his head, The predecessor and the successor to ufotable's success

Ryan Pebeck

Completely understandable to drop an anime you're not vibing with. Fullmetal is a lot of people GOAT anime and I was able to see why that is but it didn't hit the same way for me so I get it. With all that being said though I think Neon Genesis Evangelion would be great to react to. Starts off as a fairly normal mecha anime but over time becomes extremely serious and even philosophical with what it tackles. It's from 95 but it's style is just unbeatable for me.

Skyhops

Re:Zero or Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works

Klarin Black

Can heavily recommend Evangelion and Promised neverland season 1. Sadly you don't see a lot of people watch TPN anymore cuz of the (rightfully) bad rep the second season got

Dolfy

+1 for - Fate Zero - and it's sequels

Andrew Muggleton

It’s my fave anime, and there’s a lot of fantastic music - especially in the rebuilds, if he gets that far (I know some people hate them but personally I love them, for all the rough edges, there’s nothing like them).

Taylor

Ah 😅 good point. Might be better to replace a show with multiple time slots.

Lukasz Sobiecki

There is old three episode rule in anime fandom, i dont know if this is a thing anymore. But back in my times you watched 3 episodes of anime and if you didnt like it, you drop it. Cheers man, i think its good decision to drop it if you dont enjoy it, i think thats life.

Lixien

Kaiji is definitely my recommendation. You'll also love the OST.

elijah lew

ABSOLUTELY FATE ZERO. You will love the ost aswell foshuur

Jooyer

I did not see it very much so im doing it : Parasyte and Erased would be very cool, short 24 episodes anime that i think you'll like

Paul P

for a shorter one (12 episodes), you have to watch oddtaxi! Older protagonist, genius writing and no annoying kids!

d_swordfish

+ for Ghost in the Shell, Cowboy Bebop and both of Hellsings Man, Hellsing was so great back in days. In contrast to FMAB and FMA_03 both manga adoptations in Hellsing kick ass!

Brian Kuehn

I'm so shocked that Cowboy Bebop still isn't a show that has made it in yet. It would be cool to have a dedicated slot to a bit older shows like you have done with Death Note, Code Geass and now FMAB. 5 series below I think would be great! Cowboy Bebop Samurai Champloo Baccano Hajime No Ippo Beck

sahil signorile

I respect you being honest about the show knowing some weirdo's give you shit for it. just remember we're here for you and your unique perspective as a newcomer to this world. also you look amazing for 46

LewdProxy

Tony, brother.... you can do no wrong. If you want an adult themed show, that also still has anime vibes... that also has a good english dub! Maybe check out "Arcane". It's a netflix show based on the game league of legends, but you don't need to know nothing about that to enjoy this one. When this show came out pretty much every youtube reactor normal and anime alike watched the hell out of this one and enjoyed it, I'd be surprised if you havent heard of this one. Production is (high), all cg show with a lot of artistic flare scenes, the characters aren't cartoons and there isn't "anime dialogue" if that makes sense. It's a very western show that caters a ton to the anime crowd. If you havent watched it yet, check it out. Arcane.

Xer0FeaR

I'm so far behind right now but I will continue to support Tony because I enjoy his perspective. Whatever is watched I'll continue to stay. So I'm just gonna grab some popcorn and enjoy the ride.

d_swordfish

+ for Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo And yes, hell yea we have BECK! But it definitely should go after Kongmin in musical anime slot. Such a shame it wasn't even in poll last time!

Danyul

+1 to Re:Zero, Subaru at the start of the series is a non-issue considering he likes Steins;Gate and Okabe is pretty unhinged for a while, so I think he'd like Re:zero overall

Jet Man

Has anybody suggested Castlevania yet?

Kegs

Reccomend Monster, its a classic from 2005 ranked 22 in myanimelist . While being a Seinen full adult cast , it sits right next to vinland saga in that genre in terms of rating. Focuses on a murder mystery with one of the most interest antagonist

Sarai

Nice to see others who also enjoy Link Click. Hopefully one day it gets its chance.

Mouse

Music related anime recommend “those Snow White notes”, focuses on the shamisen and is an interesting cultural experience

Sam

If you want something that will break your brain (in a good way), do Neon Genesis Evangelion Also soundtrack to NGE slaps

Retcon-naissance

dropping a show happens with anime all the time, like one of the biggest Anime watch trackers Myanimelist (MAL) has the "dropped" and "on-hold" options for a good reason, there is no shame in it and if you're not vibing with FMAB after 30 episodes you've given it a more than fair enough chance - Personally I am here for all things musical anyway, the reaction vids are a bonus, you do you on another note: Seconding anyone who's recommended Monster, Golden Kamuy and Re:Zero and will add Sonny Boy (it's a quick watch with just one season - amazing music and artistry... plotwise well it's pretty arthouse I'd say), Space Brothers, ACCA 13 and Dorohedoro as shows to maybe consider if you want something that feels more adult (the later one those is less serious tho)

K M

I'd be interested to hear your take on Ping Pong: The Animation!

Barion

Was about to suggest Baccano too. That show needs more love, it's such a good wacky trip.

CK C

"Keep exploring." I don't know if that's true when a person is already defined and has their own preference. I couldn't finish full metal too😂😂😂 But I love AOT, Vinland saga, bocchi the rock, etc. I think the best thing is that both the reactors and audience are engage in the shows. The effort should be keep exploring and try out new stuff and reach something we both enjoy. TBH I love Zenitsu all the time but after rewatching the show, I think I might have twice the speed when watching season 1 because of how annoying he is😂😂😂 I think it's responsibility to provide content to audience as they are paying, but I also feel like reacting industry could be more flexible. And based on my observation, obviously, dude is not in younger age, Characters or polts that are set to be dumb are not Tony's preference. I think shows with better plot and serious would be suitable. I don't really suggest long series anime, as they are always good in all the episodes unless you are so engaged with the show. Doing short series is better, higher turnover rate, less time cost, and can discover various genres or shows in short period of time, while understanding both reactors and audience preference at the same time.

Avalon

Oh we have lol, just a long list to get through

Avalon

The shows I see the requested the most are Cowboy Bebop, Fate/Zero, Psychopass, Ghost in the Shell (not sure if they mean the amazing movies or the okay series), Castlevania, and samurai Shamploo. And every single one of them are not only shows I wanna watch again, I think they’re shows you’ll like.

CK C

I didn't play the games for years but still think the show is good. Btw I think mature show or show with better serious plot is what he like.

CK C

I actually enjoy him talking about his young age story, Like working in cafe, net center and boat performer. Sometimes I think it's more interesting than the reaction itself😂😂😂

CK C

Fate zero is good. But UBW is less cruel in my opinion.

zeldoor

In terms of anime i recommend Re:zero and Overlord. Both have their flaws but both also have great stories. Re:zero is kind of a sci-fi fantasy that can have over the top moments but also can be very dark and mysterious at times too and also funny at times. Overlord is heavily inspired on MMOs and Dungeons and Dragons which is why I suggest it, and has a great overarching story, but there are some commonly cited issues with it as well such as bad CGI moments. Both are some of my personal faves tho

CK C

I think there's a lot of annoying or traditional anime type of characters and personalities that he don't really like in rezero.

Kevin Wang

Honestly, a lot of people look at FMAB with rose tinted glasses. It was good for its time and when I was a lot younger. Revisiting it now through your videos kinda proved it. Anime is so vast, so just keep exploring and you'll find stuff you enjoy. Don't ever feel pressured to enjoy something just because others do.

CK C

I feel you. But I can't even finish full metal too. I knows either full metal or AOT if goat in a lot of people's mind. But I only like AOT. And it's hard to force people to like something.

CK C

Seriously, Gundam😂 But only Gundam 00 and 閃光. Btw I like the honesty too. It's hard to be 40 something and still like some younger genres. There's no right or wrong, just preference.

Nicol

I recommend Re:zero I’m sure you gonna like it, not just for the story but also for the music

CK C

I don't like natuto and full metal too. But I know a lot of people grow up watching them and still love them, maybe because of child age memories. I watch bleach when I was young, I still love it, but I just have more shows to love as I grow older.

GardeninTool

I think a more mature anime that's a bit on the older end you could check out is Monster. It's a mystery/thriller where it's themes revolve around balancing of personal morals, goodvs.evil and the corrupting influence of power. (Bein vague about it to prevent spoilers) My only concern is the pacing as its a 74 episode runtime but the atmosphere, character writing and plot are all catered to adults.

James

Triple up on Steins;Gate

kail santini

But Tony! Anime is for kids!

BlakStatik23

Huge recommend on either Overlord or Haikyuu, I think doing a sports anime would be an interesting turn for you to take and experience to see how you feel about it, plus Overlord has so many aspects of things I think you’d love with extremely great characters and worldbuilding.

Isaac Noël

I always want creators to watch shows they want to watch. Personally I don't like the voting system. It always results in the lowest common denominator show being picked. Watch the trailer, read the synopsis and choose what you want to watch i reckon!

Jack Allen

Can we put the OPs that you’ve not seen as twitch requests now? They’re definitely worth the listen

FullHeart

I've mentioned it before and when you did the music reaction recently, but you might like Garden of Sinners. It's a more adult show, kind of dark, suspense, has mystery themes. It's set in a sort of modern world but where magic exists. It's a fucking incredible series. Cons: - Each episode is like an hour. - because it's more adult and presented in an out of chronological order manner, it's reviewed lower than more common anime because (especially younger audience members) find it confusing

Isaac Noël

I think you said it best - we're here for you, not the shows. Obviously I'd love for my favourite show to be the one that gets a reaction, but my favourite show is never even on the list and I'm sure there are plenty of folks in the same boat as me. So all in all I'd rather watch you enjoy shows that you actually want to watch! Edit: my opinion may be a little unpopular, you'd probably get more viewers if you do the voting system but also you'd end up reacting to all the same shows other reactors have already done. It might be my own fault for watching so many different creators do this reacting thing but I'd love to see some of the lesser known shows get some love

Danyul

Since there have already been Re:Zero mentions, I'd recommend Madoka Magica, mature themes and an intriguing world/mystery, pretty quick watch as well

Chris Johnson

Re: Zero is AMAZING but has the same problem Demon Slayer does, more minorly though. There's cheese moments but it's such a dark masterpiece with a top 3 all time soundtrack. Also, Fate Zero is a great standalone with a top 5 soundtrack, little to no cheese and amazing animation

Edgar Lopez

fate series 🗣️

FullHeart

Thirded! I really recommend this one and also mentioned it in another comment. This would be such a cool series to do. It's adult, has amazing visuals and music, the story is great. It's one of my favorites

Mar

Made in abyss por favor

jpcortes

I recommend Puella Magi Madoka Magica. This work was aired in the same year as Steins;Gate. In Japan, it is as well received as or better than Steins;Gate. The music and script are good, and it's nice that it's completed in 1s. Also, as others have mentioned, Fate/zero is also good. Fate has many derivative works, and Fate/zero is a great entry point.

Multimikstar

I would suggest Samurai Champloo

Lixien

You're still right but I think he meant dropping shows as an anime reactor which is a bit different than dropping shows on your own.

TheGoblerTrainsMovinIn

"Monster" is a seinen, psychological, mystery, drama about a Japanese doctor who moves to Germany after the fall of the Berlin wall. It has to do with regret of choosing who's lives he did or didn't save and murder mystery type stuff. Highly rated, very serious, but decently long at 74 episodes and a bit of an older show but might be something you'd enjoy Though I kinda doubt it would do well in the poll

Gindread

I would prefer if u started monster one of the few serious animes I can think of u will vibe with but u do u the beauty of this Patreon is I can unsubscribe for months and come back once there is a show I like so no worries on trying appease anybody

Alberto Munoz

I really liked this one, but was afraid to suggest it because it is so different that I can't tell if Tony would like it or not. If he wanted to try it though, I'd be super down to watch!

Alberto Munoz

If just watching the first season is an option, I'd love to see a Promised Neverland reaction! As you mentioned, he should stop there though.

Alberto Munoz

From the New World! I think Tony might really like that one. It really keeps you at the edge of your seat wanting to know what happens next.

Alberto Munoz

I'd like to mention Talentless Nana. It's basically a murder mystery involving kids with superpowers on an island. I think Tony would like it!

EdTheAlchemist

All good. Shows more mature and to your taste: Monster, Psycho Pass, Fate/Zero, Parasyte the Maxim, Ping Pong the Animation, March Comes in like a Lion, Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju, Cowboy Bebop, Odd Taxi.

Mustard

Parasyte The Maxim is a fun watch I think you'd enjoy!

skrrt

Did we watch the same anime? Ram is subjectively annoying but every other character is fine from what I remember.

skrrt

Going into the Fate franchise as a starter is bold

Jakob Jensen

I second that, plus I think some of the music in this one is really good.

JoeyGuy7

Please get Evangelion on there! Best classic show AND it's short

Gran_Air

I would say re zero but it is a bumpy ride ngl

YikesBradley

Made In Abyss would be killer, the OST especially is amazing.

Ryo

i love Made in Abyss as well but he has already said that anime won't be coming to the channel

Ryo

Re:Zero, Madoka, Fate/Zero would all be fantastic and I firmly believe you'd enjoy all of them. Darker, more mature themes, with stories that are fairly easy to follow

Walt D

Castlevania is almost as good as Vinland in the long run. It does start off slow.

ユージオ

Story might be a bit confusing but Fat/Zero would be a fantastic series to watch

Kegs

not sure if this is already done, but maybe an awesome middleground is Tony gets a brief on the synopsis and the one he likes goes into a poll? We still get the vote choice but the curation is more fitting

Bleckers

I think you’d vibe with castlevania. It’s pretty good. Thanks for being real though! It’s why I watch, knowing you’re not going to fake liking something.

Marthan

Nah he's gotta savor a masterpiece like Steins;Gate

Marthan

I've gotta put my hat in and say Re:Zero as well. The good thing about the show is that the first episode or two are very decisive in telling whether or not you're going to be interested in the show going forward.

Land Hooman

Re:zero or fate series

Marthan

I don't think it's a bumpy ride. People said the same exact thing about Steins;Gate with the first half being slower than the second. But it feels weird to me that everyone assumes Tony won't care about good storytelling just because it's slower paced. To me, it makes it sound like everyone is just recommending all these series because of their one specific episode of shock value.

Lulu

I made a comment about it before but Madoka is the perfect anime! Complete novel style of anime with an amazingly unique OST .

Tyler Bowler

This is the only patreon I pay for because your content is so good. Do whatever you enjoy.

Alejandro Pupo

Fate/Zero is a BIG recommendation! Adult cast with a blend of modern setting and magic and fantasy. Same studio as Demon Slayer so the animation is AMAZING

Levantin

This is my first comment as I usually consume rather passively. However, I would like to get in line and say that I think it's good that you're being objective about the situation. In the end, we're all here to watch anime with you, see your opinion/reaction and have a good time. I think it's absolutely ok if you cancel an anime that you don't enjoy and absolutely normal. Everyone who watches a lot of anime series has to admit that they haven't always finished watching everything, sometimes it just doesn't fit. And from a viewer's point of view, if you don't enjoy the reaction, it's less fun to watch, so why not watch something else that's more fun for everyone in the end. And to leave some suggestions for, in my opinion, a more adult audience. - RAINBOW: Ni-sha roku bō no shichi-nin - Set in 1950 and follows the lives of various people in prison. - Gurren Lagann - at first glance also for a younger target group, but with a few strong moments that make everything different. Oh and there are giant robots like Code Geass. - Shiki - definitely not for children and falls more into the supernatural category like vampires and what they can do to a single town. PS: sorry for possibly bad english, it's not my native language but I'm learning.

peeps

Castlevania is one of my favorite shows of all time. It's definitely at the top of my list of things I'd love to see on the patreon

peeps

I cannot stress enough how much this kind of transparency and honesty is appreciated. Just keep making content that you enjoy man and I'll be here. Also you already know my vote is for Castlevania.

Yozora

usually in watching anime, we have whats called the “3 episode rule” which basically means that u watch 3 episodes and get a feel for the show and the story and whatnot. dropping shows is so common in anime because theres just so many shows and frankly not all of them are good or not all of them our for everyone. and i 100% agree to ur decision to drop any shows u dont really connect with, im on the patreon to watch YOU watch the show, so do whatever u want to do 👍

Trowa

He said it just wasn't for him. It was nothing he'd really be interested in given what he has researched about it.

Trowa

I have watched hundreds of animes and probably dropped just as many. Your reactions and general content have always been genuine and that means way more to me as a viewer than you watching my favorite animes. Because I admit the stuff I vote for or like isn't the big stuff/hot stuff in and some of it is older having grown up watching 80s and 90s anime, but you tend to bring fresh and funny thoughts to things that make watching even things like Demon Slayer amusing to me. Because you don't think like an anime fan and might make connections or comments someone too used to the formula might not make. As for suggestions on animes: Monster: Well paced thriller anime but it is long. You won't feel it but in terms of pacing out your time, worth thinking about. Either way it's pretty gripping from episode one as all the secrets come undone and new characters are introduced into the wide web of the story. Moribito: As someone who brings up alignments and DND a lot, you'd probably enjoy this one. A mother hires a female warrior to protect her son who has a demon inside him. It's more down to earth fantasy with beautiful fights. Cowboy Bebop: An oldy I think you can get behind. In general the stories are not interconnected but as someone again into sort of the lore and world aspects, I think this will appeal. Great music, sci-fi dystopian and an OG that many say any anime fan should try (even if you don't end up liking it). Psycho Pass: Seen it suggested a few times! I personally love it and it's a great think piece sci-fi action along the lines of Minority Report. Personally I don't care for the later seasons and think you can end on season 1 just fine as it was. But if you do watch, that's up to you to kinda see if you wanna dig around later seasons.

Gatsu

Fate and Re Zero!

Meru Tenchin

We got a reaction update video before gta 6. That’s how serious this fmab stuff is 😭

Meru Tenchin

I recommend fate series!!!

kinetic98

Berserk 1997 (one of the best stories ever) or Fate Zero (top-tier animation, darker themes, great characters)

Avalon

To be fair, it is confusing. And I love the Nasuverse

CK C

It's just my own opinion. I think everyone have difference preference. I like the MC in stein gate and his personalities and stupid moves. But I don't really like mayuri and the cat maid character. It just doesn't feel good for me, but I understand that some people like that. And for rezero, I think the story is little bit interesting. And I watched some videos about the IF lines, I think they are interesting too. But when in comes to characters, like the MC being so extrovert with anyone is kinda weird for me. And Emilia being naive and not knowing things at 16 is weird too, I know the reason and the back story, but I just don't really like it. I feel like it's just less realistic, but it's fantasy story, maybe I shouldn't expect too much real life situation element.

CK C

I remember people always say the TYBW manga is trash and it's just about the characters getting beat up, and gain new power and go back and forth. Like a lot of readers just teasing it. But after the novel released, there are more explanation about the background setting stuff. And people started liking Bleach again. And I think a lot of people like bleach is because they come back after 10 years. Bring back the good old memories creates more engagement. People used to tease the show are now loving the show again😂😂😂 I think a lot of anime experience this change, Like being teased when the show is ongoing, and treated so well after the shows end for a long time. Bleach, Naruto, Gundam 00 are some examples of it.

soor7

If you want something very unique and extremely dark I recommend kaiji.

Hoji

If we are truly in a sg timeline, he would triple up.

- JinRosé -

Tony I have never regretted ever joining the Patreon and am so relieved to see where we’re at now. The FMAB drop is a fine and justified decision. I love the show but no hard feelings whatsoever. Gonna continue supporting regardless and I am glad to see you always putting so much effort into what you do. I’m just gonna recommend Fate/Zero as well because Fate is fucking fantastic and I’m sure you’ll dig it a lot more. It’s an all time classic for me and the Fate Series as whole has a special place in my heart. Nevertheless, your reactions have always seemed genuine, and relatable, therefore I am looking forward for what’s ahead with this community.

Carson689

Made in abyss is definitely up there for me. Amazing story and Kevin Penkin definitely killed the soundtrack

Walt D

In my opinion, yes, compared to the rest of the episodes. Same with Fate Zero.

SimplySora

My vote goes to Mushoku Tensei. The father of the Isekai genre. Masterclass in world building and character writing. It’s so so good and currently the number 1 ongoing series I’m invested in. Only barrier to entry and savior I feel the need to point out is the main character. He sucks and does some pretty sucky things. Not as in he’s annoying, just a bad person. But trust me when I say it gets way better over time and is ultimately in favor of the very character driven story. And when it does have action, it goes incredibly hard! If you don’t mind a more slow burn type show, can’t recommend it enough. It is a slow burn but you’ll be hooked by the end of episode 2.

soggy

Might be a strange pull but I'd recommend the Monogatari series (Bakemonogatari being the first season). It's definitely on the unconventional side (although I wouldn't say childish), so I wouldn't fault you if you dropped it, but it's very experimental and artsy in its visuals and directing so it would be interesting to hear your thoughts on it. Plus of course the music is killer (you've already done videos on 2 tracks from the series actually). Less action, more introspection/psychology (although there certainly is some crazy fights in it too). It is on the wordier side though, I think I saw another content creator say something like "you can tell the author of the story is someone who truly loves the Japanese language", so might not be a good fit if you're looking for something lighter.

HE_Herman

True, it's hard to say if he'd like it. But he seems to enjoy when shows are a bit different and aren't another battle shounen! Plus the soundtrack is amazing

Adam Clamp

Absolutely not this, the MC is a pedo, it's gross and unwatchable

Adam Clamp

I was just thinking about exactly this yesterday. Definitely an something to give a go, although I'm not sure how many of the audience will already have seen it (which isn't necessarily a bad thing)

Adam Clamp

I don't whatsoever. Some shows just have significantly higher popularity than others, which isn't a particularly good indicator of quality or what you will personally enjoy. There is a list of shows that there is a consensus are the greatest (FMAB among them, ironically enough, which I've always disagreed with), and most of them do live up to that. Another subcategory of highly popular shows that I suspect you won't enjoy is the edgy teenage power fantasy stuff, which is absolutely everywhere, and I see getting recommended to you a bunch too (though thankfully I don't think you've picked any of them up yet), most common I see mentioned here is Overlord.

Adam Clamp

Overlord is edgy teenage power fantasy cringe. Haikyuu is great.

cue

I appreciate the verbal communication here. Yes I love FMAB but I don’t pay money just to watch anime. I pay to be a part of the community and share experiences. If you and everyone here is having a good time with a show THAT is valuable. That’s the power of a variety streamer/creator.

BlakStatik23

Definitely not cringe just cause you don’t like it bro. Different tastes. There’s a reason it has 4 seasons and a movie coming.

hihelloevery1

Personally I would recommend Monster, It's a mature thought provoking anime and the music is some of the most fitting i've seen in anime

Mason

Definitely putting my vote for Re Zero! It definitely shares some similarities with Steins;Gate

Mason

Re Zero is very good, +1 for this

Dolfy

I love this show but it's certainly bottom of the barrel caliber

Alberto Munoz

You think so? I remember looking forward to each episode when it was airing.

Andrew

I'd also like to throw Re:zero, Erased, and Parasyte: Maxim out there!

Lixien

I mean, you're right but I dont think something having a lot of seasons and a movie is a synonym of quality.

SimplySora

Tbf, in terms of screen presence I don’t think he is NEARLY as bad as Zenitsu. And his “quirks” aren’t glorified and are in service to the story. Everyone I know who sticks through it loves it

Lari

Castlevania and parasyte: the maxim are solid options.

DesheY

Love the show too but I can’t see Tony watching it ngl

Xan Acktor

Mushoku is a very good show. Im one of the biggest fans of the light novel and anime. I can safely say Tony wont like this show.

Xan Acktor

..... Your 46???? Dude i thought you were in your mid 30s at the most. When I first found your channel on YT i thought, oh this guys only a little bit older than me. Like i thought you were 32-34. Yeah i would like dropping a show you don't enjoy reacting to to be more normalized. And i think its slowing starting to be more normal. Tony your showing how much of a good guy you are. I can see your honesty.

Xan Acktor

Goated show and OST. I think Tony has stated that he has no interest watching the anime a few months back. If he was to read this though i would like to say something, you've probably heard some pretty bad stuff about the anime or manga Tony from other people. And i can see why you would without hesitation take this show off your plan to watch. This anime does some stuff really well , and there is also a lot of stuff in the anime i don't agree with even though its in my top 4 favorite anime. I see the good and the bad in it. In my personal experience with the show i went in blind, enjoyed the fantasy and OST and most importantly i separated in my head what i loved about the show and hate about the show. I can still enjoy watching the show but also know, hey this show does this thing i fucking hate. It was still well worth my time. Give it a try Tony for a few episodes.

Xan Acktor

Land of the Lustrous. There are 2 anime in the last 8 years that have greatly made me love anime. Attack on Titan and Land of the Lustrous.

Marcus

Cowboy Bebop good music, mature storytelling and sci-fi and also one of the OG, a classic

ryougishik

Garden of sinners or Fate zero

Robert F

Liked a bunch of comments but my biggest vote for a replacement show would go to Samurai Champloo. I'd be interested to see your take on the beloved hip hop OST and the show itself is a great older-skewed ride.

SimplySora

Really? I figured it’d be a show in with how much he seems to like D&D

Levi Blair

Absolutely agree with Monster being a great choice. Like I've mentioned before in other comments suggesting it is just to keep in mind the amount of time it would take up. It's 74 episodes so even if there were 2 a week that's 37 weeks to finish and that's 71% of a year. I'd absolutely be down for it and I think Tony would absolutely love it as well but for something as long as Monster I do think it is worth pointing out the time/slot commitment required.

Levi Blair

This one is tough for me because while the Monogatari Series is my absolute favorite piece of media ever both the books and anime it's also extremely hard to recommend due to how it treats some of its content. So while people extremely familiar with anime and this larger side of Japanese culture have a easier time taking in Monogatari's less palatable content, for people who haven't gone through the climbing tiers of "fanservice" in shows that actually has a purpose something like Monogatari might be diving a little too deep. Also the time factor is pretty damn big with the new season it's at roughly 112 episodes (depending on how you count koyomimonogatari episodes) and 3 films that would be on this channel for over a year straight easily.

Levi Blair

@Trowa that's unfortunate and I really hope the research that led him to that conclusion wasn't coming from the vocal minority of people saying it sexualizes kids. The show doesn't actually do that at all unless we consider any and all nudity shown or implied inherently sexual. Plus the series is basically anime Dante's Inferno featuring "not" Astroboy and a deeply well written Dora the Explorer survivalist edition so I'm guessing it wasn't the actual shows plot or setting that was the deciding factor there. That's just my guess though, I could be totally off base and the actual description of the show just wasn't up his alley.

Budoy

Atleast react to the opening and ending please, no problem dropping the show.

Levi Blair

This a million times over Neon Genesis Evangelion is mandatory viewing for anime fans and for damn good reason. There is a multitude of reasons it has persisted as one of the best and most influential works in the medium since it's airing and I'd bet just about anything he'd really like it.

Levi Blair

Neon Genesis Evangelion is mandatory viewing for anime fans, it's so monumental and holds up amazingly as still one of the strongest series of the medium.

Levi Blair

Odd Taxi is so damn good. Took a large part of the anime community by storm for good reason but doesn't seem to get suggested often despite basically everything most people have to say about it being really high praise.

Levi Blair

Here's my biggest hopes for picks. 1. Neon Genesis Evangelion. Psychological mecha series that defined an era and is still praised endlessly for its amazingly well written characters/narrative and philosophical/psychological approach to what at first glance is a typical robot vs giant monster series. 2. Monster. Psychological thriller series that again gets really deep in the contemplating of its concepts as well as it's characters, very mature (in the appeals to adults way) and overall just an absolute work of art. 3. Shinsekai Yori (From the New World). Philosophical dystopian/fantasy/sci-fi/psychological series that is better off left unexplained beyond saying the way it twists yours and the characters view of its world is beyond amazing. 4. Kill La Kill. Hear me out here, while this show does have a character that in some people's eyes fits into the Zenitsu category of annoying character (though definitely not the same degree), it's very sexualized for satirical purposes and narrative ones, and regularly has scenes and themes that when taken at surface value are just slapstick or ridiculous for the sake of being ridiculous not only actually has a lot to say while having a break neck narrative pace and incredible animation and score. It's an experience and a half and imo a great starting point for dipping into the more "wild" side of anime that still has meaningful depth to it and an overall very interesting and entertaining core premise. 5. Madoka Magica. Yes it's a magical girl show but don't let that or the cover art fool you this is a psychological and extremely well written piece of media that brilliantly and in avante garde fashion deconstructs the magical girl genre while having extremely heartfelt writing and truly complex and interesting ethical dilemmas. Again don't let the promotional material fool you it was made that way to trick audiences into watching a dark fantasy deconstruction series on a popular but generally stagnate genre (minus stuff like Revolutionary Girl Utena). 6. Golden Kamuy. Get passed the handful of times the shitty CGI bear shows up in the first season and you have one of the greatest historical fiction adventure stories of all time. It touches basically every core genre and plenty of smaller genres out there like action/drama/comedy/mystery/cooking/military/survivalist/political strategy and sometimes all in the same episode. It's an insane and great time. 7. Dorohedoro. Less I say about this one the better. It's probably the most metal anime out there and goes so incredibly hard on it's insanity in all the right ways. Short summary is an amnesiac man who had his head turned into a lizard head hunts down sorcerers who use the human populace as practice subjects for their magic in an effort to not just kill sorcerers but specifically kill the one that affected him because it would release the magic. Its brutal as hell and a pure metal joyride.

Dixon Hale

Actually this. Get a list gathered of some recommendations but then look a little into each and see if something grabs ya. It could also be a rad way for people to watch along with the reactions for shows they haven't seen vs. just us showing you all our favorite anime.

Микита Кривогуб

You should watch Blue Lock, you will love it. It's about soccer, has great electronic, rock music, insane hype moments.

Jeff

Shinsekai Yori

Ginger Ale

Definitely Naoki Urasawa’s Monster. I fully believe you will enjoy that

Unknowable

A lot of people have mentioned it already, but hear me out: Shiro Sagisu is the mind behind Neon Genesis Evangelion's soundtrack, need we say more?

Ster_arch_13

As I mentioned, Terror in Resonance is certainly the way to go. I am confident that this show will not disappoint you given that you like Stein´s Gate as much as you do

Axarionn

MADOKA MAGICA and please if you want to you have to go in blind dont look up what's its about.

Unbeknownst Man

Second Parasyte, specially since you love a good alignment check story, as well as Inuyashiki. I'd add Kaiji and my favourite English Dubbed show, Castlevania.

Taylor

Great timing! Just finished this show a day ago after sitting on the recommendation for a while, and I've been kicking myself for not watching it sooner! But glad I finally got around to it. Very impressed all around by the visuals, music, and story.

Chazzers

Heavenly Delusion is great

jonaru

its ok man, everyone cant agree to like every anime out there. and At least you tried and watch a good chunk of FMAB before making your decision.
