Thunder Nut

I dont know why people keep picking anime that you've made it clear have elements you don't vibe with. I like Re:Zero but you've made it clear multiple times what kinds of things you don't like and people keep forcing stuff THEY LIKE in instead of stuff that you would like. Hope people vote differently next time!

Cody

This anime is definitely geared towards a younger audience. Don’t be scared to state your opinion because it’s your channel and you have to take the time to do all this. You have to enjoy or like the anime for us as viewers to see that and enjoy you liking the anime and if your not enjoying it we’re not enjoying it ya know.

rosestar999

yeah rezero is a bit dry and dragged out. its hard to relate to the characters really.

Sam

RIP Seahawks and Re:Zero lol

FullHeart

RIP Re:Zero - hey hopefully we can find something that works better for you next! Finding something that you vibe with just makes things better for everyone; better content, better reactions, and obviously no one that actually enjoys a show wants to just go watch a dude that doesn't like it be forced to watch something they like, right?

Ahmed14

understandable, it was so obvious on the last episode's reaction, feel free to kick anything you don't like, it won't be fun if you didn't enjoy it

Sam

I eventually liked Re:Zero but I came like half an inch away from dropping it right around this point too, so this makes total sense to me

Ger3g

While watching I was thinking watching trailers before deciding to start could work. But watching the first episodes seems like a better way.

Tuny kun

Thank you for the validation. I never got the hype either. Not now as a working adult and definitely not even when it came out when I was a teenager. Hyped about the poll.

GardeninTool

Always appreciate the transparency Tony. Looking forward to the poll!

Thunder Nut

Lol, dropped my first comment only 2min in cause I was heated for you having seen people pick anime that arent for you mutiple times now, but yeah watching the first episodes is a good approach.

FullHeart

ALSO in anime a lot of us have what we call "the three episode rule". Three episodes is usually the amount needed to really show you what the plot and show are actually like. I think it would probably be good to implement this "rule" in the future and each time you get through the third episode of a show to maybe do a check like "am I liking this or not?" That way you can cycle out bad stuff faster!

Sakeef Salman

The three episode rule might be helpful going forward. Not everything will hook you within three episodes but that's usually enough time to see if you vibe with it.

Zach Harding

I want to see you do Dorohedoro so bad, I think it's the kind of over the top ridiculous shit you might enjoy.

Dario Lizardisilva

I agree with it. Next time hoping to people vote on what they think you might like and not what they like. Even though, I'm here for the music. The anime is a plus for me

YikesBradley

You do you man, honestly we can tell when youre not vibing with an anime and I personally dont enjoy seeing you not enjoy watching it lol. But when youre into one and getting into it, that is what I enjoy. Glad you're dropping this soomer than later!

Lixien

People thought that since he liked Steins;Gate he probably would like this with the whole time reset thing. The problem is that all the other elements didnt work and probably a lot of people that voted weren't aware of that.

Rem is best waifu

I say Fair, you like what you like. This is your channel so even as a Re:Zero fan I wouldn't want someone to watch it if they don't like it.

Sk dragon

more reactions letsgoo

Tuny kun

Shout out to Madoka Magica for helping popularize the rule (Its soundtrack is pretty good too)

Levi Blair

I had a really strong feeling from when I first saw rezero on the poll that it wasn't going to work for you and it's totally understandable why (I personally have enjoyed it but it's far from my favorite and I have mostly the same issues with it as you just not a strongly) and I also think you're absolutely on the money with some people not taking into consideration whether or not a show is likely going to work for you and instead focusing on their favorite on the list which is unfortunate because I don't really see the point in wanting someone to watch something they wouldn't enjoy just because the voter likes it. I think your solution to this problem is a pretty solid insurance to helping you not end up commiting time to shows you'd end up not enjoying and really appreciate the honesty in both the things you've enjoyed and not enjoyed, it's nice knowing when a person isn't putting up a front for something just to appease an audience. Here's hoping for Monster to show up on that poll because it's one of the best Seinen series out there and I genuinely think it's right up your alley.

Szayel H

Seeing Re:Zero win the poll was a coin flip of expectations. Truth be told I was leaning on you not liking it at all and it turned out true. If the reaction isn't fun for you than it's always best to let go. Still excited for what might come next!

Jonesy

time is finite. if youre not enjoying watching something stop

Surleaux

I'm not very tuned in to everything that goes on here, so I didn't know reactions could be stopped mid-way through, but for your sake I am so glad you ended Re:Zero. Knowing you the little I do made it very clear this show wouldn't hit, even never having seen your reaction to it until this video. Personally I enjoyed it (mostly) when it came out in 2016, but on a recent revisit I was a bit surprised at how exasperated I was with it; I just grew out of it, simple as. Anyway, I'm looking forward to the new format for deciding on what shows you'll watch, it sounds like it will work a lot better this way. Peace!

Tauren Rogue

castlevania was the correct pick on the poll that re:zero won

TheBigOhm

FLCL time!

Avalon

Basically if it’s a fantasy isekai that’s not Konosuba or Tanya the Evil, probably not gonna like it lol. They’re all made for teenage boys, and by god do I hate em. Re:zero, slime, shield hero. All so yuck. Although isekai ojisan is pretty funny imo

peeps

My biggest takeway from all of this is that Castlevania may still have a chance even after losing the last poll.

makotheQ60

And people said it was better than demon slayer 😝

Yellow_Flash

Try Log Horizon, Grimgar of fantasy and ash, and Overlord. Those are focused more on the world building and are very enjoyable

peeps

I feel the same way. I was a teenager when the first season came out and enjoyed it quite a bit. And now season 3 is currently airing and I stopped watching it after a couple episodes because I just was not enjoying it at all. I wasn't sure if it was season 3 specifically or the show as a whole so for the first time as an adult I re watched the first few episodes of the first season and man were they a drag.

Kaelen Kosse

I would be curious how he feels about overlord. I don't know if watching episode one leaves the best impressions but it's one of my favorites because of the world building and different characters. Also great OPs and EDs. I do like slime as well even though it is generally fairly light.

Kaelen Kosse

The new format sounds like a good idea and whatever you do here has to be fun and worthwhile for you too! Do what you feel is right.

Xoulium

Liking a story and/or characters makes it 1000% more easy to deal with annoyances like yellow boy, but if you don't care for the characters or story, like here, then everything bad just gets amplified. It's the exact same thing with me and One Piece, so I completely understand, and expected, this. Can't wait for the next show!

Sam

I generally agree, but I do actually like Slime. It’s got decent world building and it’s more like comfort food that I can just kinda sit back and enjoy for a bit.

tudos4

Yeah, its not that deep, didnt work out for you, you can freely drop it, complete opposite of me never droping anything(only way for me is if i forget its existence). Anyway as other said, you need to get enjoyment out of this too, i think the majority of people of people want to enjoy the reactions, when there is "passion" in it.

Alejandro Pupo

Yeah even if I haven't been here for as long as most, seeing Re:Zero replace Fullmetal was a head scratcher because you literally made a video talking about your issues with the anime + what you like and don't like in a show LOL It is what it is though, there are still dozens of incredible series out there. Even if we don't vibe with some of them others will be there and be just as good

jonaru

you cant force yourself to enjoy an anime broski, most of us are with you my man

Unbeknownst Man

I absolutely love FMA (Brotherhood) and it was kind of a shock when you admitted it fell off for you, but I was 10x more floored when the replacement was Re: fricking Zero, hahah. Of course there's no way for you to know, but all of my recommendations have been considering your taste in content and character development (I even still think you'd like a condensed version of FMA, because the plot ends up really paying off, but that's neither here nor there). Looking forward to the next options! I'd love to personally recommend you some more shows on the discord, but with work, parenting and other stuff I barely get enough time to watch your reactions on my second screen while working, hahah. Good video and I totally support your decision, been here for a while and hope to be here for the long run. Cheers, Tony!

javier calderon

Would dr stone be a good one for him to watch?👀

AsbestosDust

I threw in that recommendation in the chat, older cast, amazing world building, interesting characters and plotlines. The only (debatable) downside is cgi but that's a very minor detail.

SimplySora

I’m not in the discord and not super involved, but glad to see that this community for the most part is super chill and respectful about everything.

Sarai

I’ve never watched Re Zero but I’ve watched my fair share of isekai so I had a feeling you probably weren’t gonna vibe with this. While there are good isekai out there, there’s just tropes that seem forced, tropes that annoy me to no end lol. To me, I think a lot of isekai are overrated. But I think your plan is fair game, good idea.

Zach Harding

Yeah I don't see it being a hangup for Tony. It's just such a bizarre and cool show.

Arsenic805

The biggest and only surprise of this video is you saying your age 💀 idk if you've mentioned it before but it was my first time hearing it. You look younger than that, never would've guessed. Anyways, so far we have identical tastes in anime, though I suffer through to the end and aside from the so called 'masterpiece' that is episode 18? (If I recall correctly) you ain't missing out on much with the rest of the first season. Can't speak for anything after that since I haven't watched it. Looking forward to what comes next though! Definitely a fan of the watch the first episode from the poll, as well as the 3 episode rule that others have mentioned. Happy new year!

LewdProxy

I knew he wasn't gonna like that sht xD. Conceptually this show kicks ass, but bro in the tracksuit makes watching an actual chore. People were saying "It's like Stein's Gate" or something... but Stein's Gate is actually interesting? Lol, I'll never understand but hey, on to brighter pastures!

Avalon

I do like grimgar a lot actually, don’t like the others

Elite968

Can't say i was suprised. I was 100% sure that you would't enjoy it, when i saw the pools for RE Zero. 100% sure you would enjoy Castlevania :D ( I hope we will see that someday here )

Llemon

careful with the one piece name drop buddy, gonna put yourself in the hot seat with some of the overprotective fans 💀😂

Jhon 1479

Finally this shit was so ass sorry for the people wholiked it but how can u watch this when there's so much good shows. Anyways hope Hunter X Hunter replaces it I've been waiting for a year for it.

Andrew

Had a feeling this was coming, I like re:zero but I completely understand. Didn't see or understand the journey you had with Fullmetal so I voted re:zero out of hope mostly. Respect the decision, don't waste your time, man

zeldoor

RIP seahawks

zeldoor

that idea of reacting to one ep of each is firee

Xoulium

That's the thing. If someone actually gets mad at me from that one sentence without any other context, then I don't care about their opinion cause they're dumb af for that 😂

SKAOG

doubt he cares about science enough to remain invested in the characters and plot

Isaac Noël

Tony my favourite thing about you as a reactor is that you know what you like and you dont give us any bullshit. I hope you enjoy the next show mate!

SKAOG

Haha, as many other's have said, i was pretty skeptical when Re:Zero was chosen as the replacement to FMAB which you clearly weren't enjoying (though i cant lie, watching dub due to being heaped praises didn't help either), so it's completely expected and understandable that you'd drop it. I personally like Re:Zero for reasons such as the plot and gore and interactions between the characters, but I'm also used to watching anime so i can easily filter out stuff that may put non-anime watchers off, which helps in stories set around Japanese characters. Will see what the poll options are and how it goes. I've just looked at ep 1 of HxH (and up to ep 3 as well if the three episode rules happens and HxH wins your decision), and I personally think it should be able to hook you if you've managed to watch stuff like Mob and JJK. It's very much framed as an anime where you're meant to think similar to Vinland Saga and Steins:Gate and the author Togashi tries a lot to execute it well, but you of course can also enjoy it without thinking much since it's a battle shounen, so i do think that you'll be hooked enough at the start to at least progress through for a while, by which time should be enough to fully convince you. (This is all assuming Hunter x Hunter even pops up on the poll)

kinetic98

We need a council of 12 wise patreon members to filter out things DRT doesn't like. Whoever selected HOTD(highschool of the dead) should get a majority vote power (imo those are best reactions along with Sound Eupho)

kinetic98

I recommend Orb: On the Movements of the Earth. It has a Vinland Saga S2 vibe. Sort of a like a mix of Vinland Saga and Death Note. The ending and op for this show are really good. Not many fights but when they do happen animation is crazy good. Philosophical and without any loud characters. There are no superpowers/magic/supernatural stuff in this show and it is quite dark at times

Edward Contreras

I feel like overlord would be a good one

Axarionn

If you like vinland saga you should check out Orb Movements of the earth its not that similar but it has the vibe of it

Trowa

He is NOT going to like Hunter x Hunter. I get people suggesting things they want to see, but they need to start thinking about what he wants to see.

Trowa

I think the biggest issue is people suggesting stuff they want to see as opposed to what they think you'd actually enjoy seeing. And I think most anime fans are used to being forced into seeing anime outside of the realm of "normal" media because it's commonly told to us that it's for kids and etc when anime is just a vehicle for story telling like anything else. I think that's where that dissonance you mentioned comes from. Why it's like "oh don't suggest this for a new anime fan" when really you should base suggestions on the persons personal tastes in media. I love the idea of you watching the first episode of several animes and just finding your vibe. The best reacts are the ones where you're enjoying the content you're reacting to.

Bryro

I was looking at the shows you've watch so far, and after hearing that you didn't vibe well with FMA:B or Re:Zero, I think there are still plenty of shows out there you could vibe with that I could think of at the top of my head. The top pick that I think makes the most sense would definitely be "To Your Eternity", since the music really elevates the experience and it is by far one of the best anime soundtracks I have heard behind "Made in Abyss", "Violet Evergarden", and few other great shows. I would also recommend "Erased", "Saga of Tanya the Evil", "Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress", and (for something more similar to Konosuba if the humor vibes with you,) "Uncle from Another World". These other shows all have elements that I think you could be interested in, whether it comes from the show's setting, the music (of course), and length (since they don't feel like they overstay their welcome). Of course, always pick what you think suits you best and never worry about angering or disappointing people if you drop or skip over a show that people are passionate about! Just connect with whichever you feel is best for you!

James Burns

Not going to lie, I expected this to happen after it was nominated to replace FMAB. I feel both of those series are hard to watch once you're no longer a teenager, but I'm sure others will disagree. I like the idea of rapid-fire first episodes. Fully committing to a show before watching the first episode has burned me too many times. There are too many series that look alright from the synopsis, but go wrong very fast.

Aritome

For every anime you find that you will enjoy, believe me there will be 10 that you don't enjoy. I'm honestly surprised it took until fma for you to finally find a show you would drop. That's an impressive streak. Looking forward to seeing what you put on the poll. And happy new year!!!!

Paul P

I still hope oddtaxi makes it someday

Matej Božič

If you are not adverse to watch older anime, I think you'd enjoy Great Teacher Onizuka

Mayhem

I'm glad your sticking to your guns and dropping things that arn't interestign to you. I love it whe you also love a show like I do, but I also understand not every show is for everyone. As your content here is reactions to shows for us, I always much prefer when your hobest about not likeing somthing. there is nothing wrong with everybondy NOT haveing the same taste.

Dixon Hale

I think after 30 and 15 episodes is proof that you are giving these shows their fair chance. But when it doesn't click it doesn't. Any react that isn't enthusiastic is not going to be good content at the end of the day. You are trying new shows that YOU should vibe with. That's why we watch.

akRomulus

To be honest, as a new member of the Patreon and seeing your previous reactions and how you resonate with different characters I knew you were not gonna be a fan of re:zero. I was almost surprised you even started the show when I first saw the playlist 😅. Oh well, hopefully we can get a new replacement soon 🙏

Silver Altomare

Honestly the most sad part is that you have to try and justify not liking something. It’s no worries on that. It’s like people getting upset that someone doesn’t like a flavor they love. I can’t stand cherries and there’s no way I’d sit and eat cherries for months on end on the off chance I might start liking them. The content I enjoy the most from you is when you’re really digging something which is why I didn’t really watch much of your Re:Zero reactions because I could tell you weren’t really vibing with it almost right from the start.

william watson

Two points here - If you put up a poll for people to vote, people are always going to vote THEIR preference don't be surprised at that. In an attempt to reason something you didn't need to you almost made it an attack on the people who voted. - By the same breath if you don't like a show don't feel like you half to watch it, just drop it most sane people will understand without issue, you don't need to reason it, you don't need to sit down, record, and edit a 7 minute long video explaining anything. Just post "Dropping ReZero, wasn't enjoying it so I'm going to choose a new show to replace it". Trust me, it will save you so much headache. Imma be real with you, if your worried that people are gonna vote for an option that you don't end up liking, don't do the votes. Choose a show YOU want to react to based on what YOU are interested in. The way you got things set up is always going to end up with shows you don't like popping up, and if you get stressed out and then have to drop borderline apology videos each time its going to get even more stressful very fast.

Nick K

I think you very subtly whether you realize it or not kind of emphasized what is the biggest driving forces of you liking a show or not, and that's the main character. For FMA and Re:Zero the main characters are similar enough in how they act, and they both have this wacky, flippant way that they act a lot of the time. Sure they sometimes get serious, but there's large portions of them acting this way, in otherwise serious shows. In Konosuba it's a comedy show, and the writing is all based around that, and in Demon Slayer Tanjiro isn't really like that but Zenitsu is and he's your least favorite character in that show too. I know you said there was already a lot of discord discussion but just that's my general impression of what makes a show the worst for you: a main character that you just find insufferable. There can be other problems, but I think that's the difference between you being able to persist, like you did with Demon Slayer, or just wishing you were watching something else. This is probably why you identified you weren't going to like Re:Zero from the very start, and why you feel compelled to do 1st episode reaction double check before continuing, because you'll be able to immediately assess the main character above all else and how much you can tolerate them, or you know, hopefully enjoy them.

william watson

Im being serious, maybe you should consider simplifying how you do things to better fit yourself and your schedule.

drumrolltonyreacts

Yeah, this is 100% accurate. The other reason I think Konosuba works for me, even though it has loud characters, is that it does NOT take itself seriously or attempt to present anything in a serious format. Its all one big joke. The issue for me with ReZero and FMAB is that it really DOES take it self seriously and I just couldn't with the insufferable mains. You are on the money.

drumrolltonyreacts

I know you are being serious. This is a community-based business where folks are paying REAL money to be a part of the decision-making. You sort of oversimplified the options for resolving.

Madi

Hmm, funnily enough I also dropped FMA and re:zero. Idk if people recommended it but I think heavenly delusion is something u might rly dig. It‘s a bit underrated but has rly good storytelling and also a banger opening (which u know already). Plot and info about the world is provided in bits and pieces making you always think about sth kinda like in steins gate. 🫡
