Started the head (and tried some feathers out, but they suck right now >_>)

I mainly wanted to see how I could get this guy lookin in 3d. I took a bit of a different approach this time around- I usually draw a head before modeling one. But this time, I modeled a basic shape:

Which is what I drew over to get the head painting.

I then polygon modeled a head over the basic shape- it's quite different than the sketch, but I kind of like it as it turned out. This method works better than what I was doing before, just drawing a head with no regard for actual perspective. It was a lot easier to get a head out of this, even if it's not an extremely, super close match. I think next time, I should make a less rough 3d shape and neck and shoulders...

And I'm still really not sure how to do the feather hair... as of now, it's a hair particle system that uses a feather object instead of hair paths. But it's a bit difficult to work with... so, I might use a combination of hand-place feathers and hair particle system placed feathers.
