Definitely a film I've been wanting to watch for a while, and I'm so glad I did! What a whimsical, magical, fun adventure!

NOTE: You follow along with your own copy of the movie; I have a little timer right at the beginning where it counts down and shows the word "play" when I myself start playing the movie. I also have a timer synced throughout the movie so you're also in sync the whole time! If you don't have your own copy, then you'll have pretty much no idea what's happening!

This was a fun watch with you! I grew up with this film. I didn’t really understand it when I was very young. I didn’t know why Mary Poppins left. I had to get a little older to understand that she didn’t come to take care of the children. Rather, she came to help the father. As for the technicality of it, it’s really incredible to think about it. The cartoon world was hand-drawn. That very long sequence took a year in post-production. Also, the Step in Time dance is known as one of the most difficult dances put on film. There are videos where dancers try to break it down and it’s really amazing when you see it that way. What’s more incredible is that Dick Van Dyke had no dance training. Also, most people miss it, but the old banker who died was played by Dick Van Dyke as well. There’s a lot of interesting back story to the making of the movie. Julie Andrews had originated the lead role in My Fair Lady on Broadway. But when the studios decided to make it into a movie, they hired Audrey Hepburn instead because she was a big movie star. Her singing had to be dubbed. So Julie Andrews was hired for Mary Poppins. Even though she’d had a long Broadway career, it was her first movie. Then, both Julie Andrews and Audrey Hepburn were nominated for the best-actress Academy Award that year for their respective roles. Julie Andrews won. Audrey Hepburn is amazing though. You should check out Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

breakfast at tiffany's is a good one! my favorite though is my fair lady. her outfits in that are stunning!! a close second would be charade just because it's so fun! but i definitely think OGB needs to react to sound of music soon! also fun fact: dick van dyke has done renditions of step in time even into his 90s. he loves still getting to perform it and has the biggest smile on his face every time. you can see videos of the performances he's done on youtube. it's so fun seeing him still have that spark.
