“You didn’t have to shoot her in the head.” Said Madam Z in her usual stern voice.

“It was supposed to be a warning shot.” Baram explained, looking over her shoulder to meet Madam Z’s hard grimace. Only then did she realize that the Madam didn’t want an excuse or an explanation.

Her gaze was fixed on the blonde girl lying in the recovery pod while her mind raced to untangle the puzzle that had led them to this moment. Who was this girl? Why was she going after one of her agents? But more importantly … How was she able to use the power of the Hex?

“What now?” asked Baram, shuffling her feet about as the eerie sound of the medical machines became unbearable.

“Now we wait for a full recovery and with any luck, we'll be able to salvage her memory for some answers. Despite this ... Operation: Snake Eyes was a success. Get Carlotta and return to HQ with the package.” Ordered Madam Z.

With a sharp nod, Baram spun around to leave the recovery ward, only to stop herself at the threshold and ask, “You are staying?”

Madam Z fixed her glasses and turned to give Baram a reassuring smile.

“Yes. I ... want to be here when she wakes up.”
