Yes — the captain later plays Sarek! Romulans are incredibly secretive and distrusting to the point of being paranoid.

Also, making sure you know about the “red shirts” — the extras with the red shirts were often expendable. Though that switched up a bit later on when command stated wearing red and engineering wore the gold.
