This episode has a fairly lowly reputation among the fandom, which is a bit of a shame as I find it a rather sweet (if slight) story. As soon as we find out that Mira is Scottie's girlfriend we know, full well, that something terrible is going to happen to her very soon! :D I'm glad that she's given a happy ending; and the updated f/x are really pleasing - so this is a likeable episode for me. We're fast running out of TOS stories, so your hope of seeing her return is a little optimistic, I'm sorry to say! It's actually refreshing to get a completely happy ending where the Guest Character gets to live. (The first time I watched this I was expecting Mira to become one with the entity at the end of the story - but I guess that would have been too similar to Season Two's Metamorphosis. ) Trivia: this story was written by husband and wife fans. They were both getting frustrated that Kirk was forever encountering cute women, and wanted to give another regular character the chance to have a romance. The wife (Shari Lewis) was a known actor and ventriloquist, so they wrote Mira Romaine (a lovely name!) with herself in mind for the role. It didn't happen (although she did get a TV series later on, with her glove puppet ventriloquist act)

That is sooo cool! I'm so glad they wrote that episode because other deserve love too...not just Kirk! And you are right, Mira Romaine is a lovely name!
