Welcome to a new edition of Behind The Scenes, where I share the WIPs, outlines, and thoughts as I drew pages 11 and 12.
I'm afraid that this time, the outlines aren't all that deep LOL
PAGE 11
> Lynn looking beautiful. Lincoln's senses are overwhelmed.
PAGE 12
> Everyone's telling Lynn she looks super pretty. Lucy is suspiciously looking at her and Lincoln. They go to prom.
So yeah, pretty straightforward, to be honest. Not a lot happens in terms of moving the plot forward, it's basically the transition into the prom. But I think there are still some little elements to discuss.
This page had been in my mind for the longest time. The idea, I think, it's self-evident, or at least that's what I hope. Lincoln would see Lynn with her hair down and her pretty dress, and his entire mind would be blown.
The idea with the paneling is that every single "sense" or element of his person is entirely focused on Lynn. And the background colors would help convey that, along with the panels. His mind can only think "Oh my...", his eyes are only focused on her, his hearing can only hear her, his mouth can only speak her name (not in the sketch, but on the final page lol), and his heart is going crazy.
There were a couple of changes. The first panel, I turned it into a narration. It seemed redundant to have an "intro" panel of him looking at her, only for the rest of the page to be dedicated to... him looking at her lol
And I also ended up changing her pose. I wanted to show her somewhat confident, but I thought it would be cuter if she was kind of embarrassed.
And this sketch sucks, I'm sorry. But when there's a bunch of characters with different heights and stuff, I prefer to work on those proportions as I'm drawing them. These sketches are supposed to help me figure out the panel distribution, to get an idea of the page layout before I get to the finer details. And I thought the three panels here would work pretty well for this page.
I did forget Lucy in the sketch lmao Seems appropriate, but I really just forgot to add her to the second panel. Still, I knew she would be between them in the background, and I had already imaged her blurry, to kinda push her even more into a bystander position.
I think this is as good of a place as any to say that I was informed around page 7/8 that in America, the families of seniors don't go to prom. Here in Argentina, families are invited to prom. They have their tables on a side, and it's generally a family-friendly dance/party. With alcohol lol
When I was made aware of this, I thought about somehow changing this... but you know what, just assume that Luna's family went there because of the concert (and because of a SECRET SURPRISE COMING IN NEXT PAGE!!!!). It would kinda ruin my plans if they weren't there lol So that's just a tradition in Royal Woods.
And there's not too much else to add, I think. These pages were pretty simple.
See you next week!
