Welcome to a new edition of Behind The Scenes, where I share the WIPs, outlines, and thoughts as I drew pages 13 and 14.

These pages were quite fun to draw. Unfortunately, I was sick for a couple of days this past week, so I couldn't enjoy them as much as I would have wanted to.

Let's take a look at the plans for page 13.

PAGE 13
> A quick recap of prom. Shots of Luna and Sam, Lori and Bobby, Leni and Gavin, Luan and Benny, the twins and Lucy dancing together.. Lynn with Polly, Lincoln dances with Lily and Lisa before sitting down.

As you can see, this is one of those sketches where I really wanted to nail the poses and expressions.

If you go back to page 9, you'll see that there's a line where Lisa says "A ring, you say?" when talking to Lucy. The idea was that Lucy, ever so sneaky, had found out about Luna buying a ring. Whether Lucy knew already that Luna was going to ask Sam to marry her or not, I'll leave that up to you.

But yeah, Luna is the first of the kids to get married. Everyone's super emotional about it. Lynn Sr might not make it to the end of the night, his heart is going crazy.

And then we have all the panels showing everyone else. Lori and Bobby, redoing their tango dance from Cheater by the Dozen, Leni, and Gavin (who I kept looking the same, cause he's already a big boy and there's no reason for everyone to have significant changes), Luan and Benny (who's trying to grow a mustache, but it's hard), and then all the other kids.

Lana dancing with Hops is an adorable image, I needed to have it there. Lola's doing a little of a grown-up dance, like dancing at a club, cause she thinks of herself as basically a teenager at 8yo. And then we have Lucy, who's doing the Wednesday dance because of course she is.

When I decided to give her braids for this comic, making her a walking Wednesday reference became an obvious gag. Her dress is kind of based on the same dress Jenna Ortega wears in that scene, and I figured I might as well have her dance the same silly routine. I think it's funny lol

I like how Lynn looks at Lincoln from one panel to the other. It flows really well. And then the panel with Lincoln being the most adorable big brother ever. I know Lily is canonically a problem child lol But I like the idea of her being a cutie pie that loves spending time with her older siblings. Sue me.

PAGE 14
> Lynn sits down with Lincoln. They talk about how happy they're for Luna. They point out that everyone around them has a significant other. Lincoln once again has some downer talk. Lynn insists he doesn't know what he's talking about, and then she grabs him and takes him to the dance floor.

In this one, the sketches aren't as clean. It still sells the overall point, I think, but I was trying to figure out the composition of the panels and the best way to add some interesting perspective changes in a few panels. Mostly the last two. Foreshortening is a technique where things "closer to the camera" look bigger, and that's what I was going for, although I wanted to keep it as subtle as possible to not bring too much attention to it.

I'm not the best at drawing, but I do try my best, and this page was fun to draw.

Another good part about these two pages was that I barely had to draw any backgrounds lol Most of the space was occupied by the characters. And while I could've drawn a crowd in the second panel of this page, I didn't see the point in wasting energy on that. Most people won't care. I know I didn't.

I know I'm biased because this is my comic, but I like the pacing so far. There are callbacks to previous pages that inform the characters' decisions, there's emotional weight to these moments, and there are explanations on why they're acting the way they are.

Lynn and Lincoln are both in love with each other. They don't know how to deal with it other than hiding it, but how well can you hide it when that person is right next to you, and you have so much in common and there's so much tangible chemistry between you two?

There's also the fact that, as mentioned in the dialogue of the pages, there's an atmosphere of love around them. Luna is getting married, and everyone else is with their significant other. Lynn and Lincoln aren't impervious to the setting, they're surrounded by romance, and that stirs their feelings. We'll see how that keeps affecting them.

And that's it for now. See you guys next week with new pages!
