We're just getting into the Dreamlands at the moment in my longish Trail Campaign. We've visited other Aethyrs before but I thought I'd give this a go. The PCs visited the moon a while back but weren't sure where it was, and I hadn't decided either, but now they know. And because of that I'm going more Leng than anything else, so MoLs, Moonbeasts, and the odd Gug. But I've made good use of Nightgaunts in other parts of the game, and a swarm of those certainly gets people running for cover. I'm certainly no fan of Dream-Quest and there's always a danger with Dreamlands that it turns into a fantasy pastiche. I avoided this in Dreamhounds of Paris by mixing in the elements of surrealism and other art of the time, such as German expressionist cinema but in this case I'm taking more a leaf from Vellitt Boe and looking at the political situation, but with monsters and gods.

Vellitt Boe is so underrated... As a short novel, it opens up the setting wonderfully.
