Chapter 12 Preview, Part 11: D's Romance (Patreon)

Man, I wanna post more/longer previews but we're inching into real spoiler territory now with where I'm at with the chapter, so... you're all gonna have to subsist on these little snacks until the chapter drops.

Here's a little sneak peek of D's romance scene to tide you over until then:

“How are you feeling?” you ask, your gaze flitting down to $dname’s side where $dtheir wound is hidden beneath $dtheir robes.

“There is no need for worry,” $dname replies, not meeting your stare.

“It doesn’t hurt anymore?”

$dname’s brows twitch, $dtheir eyes remaining firmly aimed on the statue. “It does not impede me in performing my duties.”

“That’s not an answer.” Your frustration grows, pushing you to step in front of $dname and stand between $dthem and the statue. “I am asking after you, $dname Sîdar. Not the general of the army.”

Finally, $dname looks at you, though $dtheir attention lingers for mere moments before $dthey turns $dtheir face away. “The general of the army is the only one you need concern yourself with.”

You scoff, your words turning sharper in an attempt to evoke a reaction—looking for anything, the slightest hint that what you have sensed between the two of you has not been a conjuring of your mind. “Are you that afraid of me?”

$dname regards your accusatory look, $dtheir own expression becoming incredulous, cracking through $dtheir composure.

“Afraid of you?” Something in $dtheir face shifts as $dthey steps closer to you, the soft sunlight that falls into the chamber catching within $dtheir eyes and casting a glimmer of warmth into their black pools. A deep, dark and lovely brown. “Would that I feared you and spared us both the misery.”

Your heart pounds against your chest at the glimpse $dthey offers you, standing closer than is appropriate, gazing at you in a manner so terribly affected that you wonder how $dthey has managed to hide it at all. How is it that the entirety of Marabad does not know, when the way $dthey looks at you is so bare, so loud, so inescapable?

Much like X, D's romance scene in this chapter won't have a major difference between high/low yet. The only difference that will come up is if you managed to successfully get through the court's attempt to try and find a replacement of them the last time 👀

For now, D romancers, you're spared... but you should really get those romance points up soon, is all I'm gonna say. Or not, if you enjoy the angst!!
