Eleonora Frizorger

Thank you for your video. I will watch it tonight

Hezer

"I was right!". Oh yeah, you were. And unexpectedly you didn't manage to gaslight yourself out of that theory. 😆 The Ackerman thing was a bit outlandish theory, when you first brought it up, and totally not something I would have even considered. Now just have to figure out if they're somehow related or not.

Dagmar Makara

I absolutely love this episode

Anna Kyruin

The opening sequence with Levi fleeing Kenny's people referred to as "surfing with maneuver gear" by the key animator took one month just to storyboard and three full months to animate. I've frame-by-framed through it and it is fantastically well done.

Hezer

Careful with spoiling. No need to confirm or deny anything that the anime hasn't told her.

HAL

hanjis "bear with me" gets me every time

HAL

getting two crazy theories confirmed within seconds was wild

Alex Mercer

its kind of scary how intelligent and perceptive you are

DrSophieDarlingReacts

I scare myself mainly because I always feel like I've no clue what's going on and then when it gets confirmed I even get surprised like "WAIT I WAS RIGHT?!"

HAL

it is commonly seen as one of the key modern examples for animators going all out

Jordan

Any tips if the video won’t play due on my browser due? It’s worth the wait but I also want to watch nowwwww lol

Hann

I was so excited for the Ackermann reveal!! thankfully you didn't get spoiled about it because it is so hard to avoid seeing his full name on the internet once the algorithm picks up that you like AOT haha

Arrow

Yessss, the action sequence that took 3 months to animate! I love the way Levi isn't commenting on morality at all, he just says Armin shouldn't regret it. Regardless of good or bad or right or wrong... just don't live your life with regret.

Russell Gambardella

Haha once the Reiss reveal happened in addition to knowing Kenny's line was soon coming, I knew you were gonna freak once he said Ackerman!!

Anna Kyruin

It is interesting to me that a lot of people who get to the Ackerman name reveal first think it must be related to her mother, which shouldn't be the first assumption under the cultural norms of the show. The name would have come from the father's side of the family in such a patriarchal society. One random baseless conjecture of mine is that Mikasa is just such a strong female character that one assumes her family would be matriarchal. (TBH tho it's probably just because her mom has more lines and presence in the flashback in e6) Side note: The Japanese VAs pronounce Ackerman very much like "Akuma" with a trailing 'n' and Akuma is Japanese for 'Devil' or 'Demon', very edgy last name lol.

Terry C

I don't think Levi would be related to Mikasa's mother's side. Mikasa's mother is from Asia, and in the early episodes, Jean mentioned that Mikasa 'looks different from the rest of us,' likely because she is of mixed heritage. Whereas everyone else within the walls are European.

DrSophieDarlingReacts

And yet Levi does not look like everyone else either. He very much looks like Mikasa and her mother more so than her father who had very European features and light hair. I think it's fair for people to believe he's linked to the mother because of the near identical features.

DrSophieDarlingReacts

Only I don't know enough of the show to suggest that this is a patriarchal society. It hasn't read that way to me at all. Nor does it read as matriarchal. I think it would be wholly unfair for me to presume just because it takes from European influence that it's patriarchal especially when we see women being given the same opportunities and treated as equals thus far. Yes, there's been glimpses of gendered violence and sex trafficking but that's not unique to patriarchy. We also don't know if Ackermann is the father's last name or not. In some culture men take the women's last name, or because of her being one of the few Asian's left they may have chosen to keep hers as a connection. Granted Ackermann is more European sounding but the connection to the mother for me is based on appearance. He does not resemble Mikasa's father at all and it's hard to tie him to that as he looks very identical to Mikasa and her mother in terms of features

Terry C

Well If Levi were Asian, you’d think people would make the connection, considering they’d be the only two Asians within the walls.

Anna Kyruin

I was trying to nod to that patriarchy wasn't explicit, but I was basing it on the fact that if you look at the people in power it's the king and like 6 or 7 older men, which implied patriarchy to me. I am not a fan of the patriarchy to be crystal clear 😅 also absolutely love all the female representation the series has.

DrSophieDarlingReacts

Only one is living above ground and the other isn't. So no - you wouldn't make that connection so easily especially as the only person to ever bring it up is Jean, who we know is attracted to Mikasa. We also know that it was why the traffickers were interested in her mother. But Levi grew up in the underground and if commented on we haven't seen it just in the same way we weren't shown his last name. I'm running with my theory until the show tells me otherwise.

HAL

her mom also has the same dark hair as her and levi that might be where the assumption often comes from

Hezer

And if it's within the capacity limitations of your device and your internet speed, you can always download the video and watch it directly on device. I've switched to doing this in the hopes, that me downloading the video doesn't affect the viewing limits on google drive.

ML Snow

The pronunciation is “Akkāman”, and its origin is German, like many names in this series. You can look it up in the wiki or listen carefully to the characters say it, Akuma sounds different.

Terry C

They both live above ground, Levi has lived above ground before Mikasa and Eren ever met. Levi is well known throughout the walls. The traffickers made it a point and said “look at her face”. While saying both her and her mother were the last remaining of the race called Asians. Dr. Jaegar even called the father “Mr. Ackerman”.

Ragdefender2

It is comical how often Eren gets kidnapped in this show! lol! BTW, technically, Pokemon is your first anime tatoo.

DrSophieDarlingReacts

I feel like you are trying to give too much away by being so incessant that it's the father he's linked to. Let me have my theory and if it's wrong then it's wrong. The show will correct me. There's no proof that Ackermann is his last name. It could very much be one he's taken from his wife. At this point in time we don't know by who or how he's related to Mikasa. 'Last remaining' could be to their knowledge. The territory is HUGE and there's a lot of Levi's life that we haven't seen either. We can't just presume for the sake of levity that such an interaction hasn't occurred before where people have claimed him to be Asian. Again - let me have my theories. It's really not that deep to let me run with what I think until the show tells me otherwise :)

Terry C

I haven’t given anything that hasn’t already been mentioned in the series. This is simply a discussion of what has already been covered. My point is that if there were only two Asians within the walls, it seems like something that would have been explicitly mentioned. They would have clearly been related due to their physical resemblance being the only two Asians which would have been noticeable to others. Mikasa being the last remaining Asian just seemed something unique to her. Even her name is the only Japanese name in the entire series.

riddle

this is honestly my least favorite arc of the entire series. it's definitely important to the story, but just the least interesting part of the story for me. but i feel like you will really enjoy analyzing it so im here for the commentary 👌

DrSophieDarlingReacts

Yeah I tend to love the slower episodes primarily because there's so much more to analyse in terms of story and character development and themes. I think the action is cool but it doesn't get me as excited as actual story development!

riddle

i enjoy the slow episodes of shows too! actually, action is my least favorite genre to consume (i only started AOT because my mom wanted to watch something "exciting" and she chose this). im more of a shoujo girlie, i love romance and slice of life. but i think the royalty thing about this arc is what bores me LOL

Wuschel

Yeah definitely makes me feel like I consume shows like AoT like a complete fool. Somehow my brain just shuts off when watching and doesn't even make the simplest of connections. But that is part of the fun of watching someone else experience the show.

2025-01-29 02:20:09 While some people don´t like this arc, as their isn´t as much Titan action as in the other´s... But i just love it for the whole Lore dump this arc is. It´s one bombshell after another. Also on a side note.. the 3 excampels during the "interogation" named by the MP - All 3 Excampels are important to the Main cast. U have spotted Hystoria´s Mother, i wonder if you are going to be able to gess the other 2. They might or might not have been talked about yet.
