Any plans to have Ty E back?

Oh Yes! I only got about halfway through but I feel like I need to pause and watch the series before I finish listening. It's strange how German culture used to be the weeb culture in the 1970s and early 80s here. Germans were cool and trendy for a time and now we've completely erased them from cultural memory outside of WWII evil empire nostalgia. I'm quite into Japanese theater and I've always thought it was funny that the German language musical Elisabeth is a blockbuster smash hit that has been basically been on stage since 1993 there but is completely unknown in English. Ludwig, the 1973 film, is an Italian film, is worth a revisit too. Who is making four hour films about German kings these days?

Heimat is fantastic and should be remembered alongside BA as far as these ambitious auteur-helmed TV series go. If you've got a region free bluray player, the first 15-hour installment was restored and released by Second Sight in the UK. Allegedly a restoration of the even longer sequel is in the works.

I've been thinking about getting one for a while but this might just tip me over the edge. I'm an advocate for collecting the media you like in hard copy. I still regret getting rid of some of VHS tapes where the DVD versions have swapped out all the old quality music for shitty new soundtracks. I just bought a cassette player with a USB for my collection too. Even if hipsters are picking over vinyl now cassettes are usually still available. The amount of effort is higher and hipsters are lazy.

Yeah, Heimat and the old Melancholie der Engel release were what motivated me to finally pick one up and it's definitely worth it. Maybe things changed in the meantime, but I drove a car with a tape deck for most of the 2010s and practically every Goodwill had a treasure trove of cassettes collecting dust in some corner.

There are definitely things on cassette that were never digitized during the CD boom let alone available on streaming platforms. We've completely abandoned so much old culture. I just got a notice from Tower Records in Japan that a deluxe remastered 3 disc set of Earth Wind and Fire singles was coming out. Not available in the USA of course. We just get the same one-two songs on spotify disco hits playlists.
