Another really good adaption if u want to check it out is the 1978 Czech new wave one “panna a netvor” it’s closer to the Cocteau one as the beast isn’t “hot” lol (he’s a giant bird) but the visuals and vibes are stunning ala Valerie and her week of wonders and Morgiana by the same director

watching casually the one with Vincent Cassel and it is extremely uncharismatic! OOF

I loved this episode. Belle's Enchanted Christmas is also my only direct-to-video sequel recommendation (because of my childhood devotion to Bernadette Peters). Also closing with Celine and Peabo crooning was top notch - I listened twice.

Your point about the richness of color in the animated versions reminded me of how much of the merchandise in the 90s depicted them in romantic nighttime scenes — very high drama compared to most kids' stuff. The impression the 1991 version and Enchanted Christmas left on me is definitely still evident. I'm constantly talking myself out of building a rail-ladder system for the bookshelves in my living room; they're *just* big enough to get away with it, but it would be totally unnecessary....stuff like that. Lots of sweet memories in this episode, thank you.

Amazing episode, “The Little Mermaid” was the first movie I saw in the theaters, too 🧜‍♀️ Leighton Meester would have made a perfect Belle- plus, she can sing… Total missed opportunity imo.
