🌲❄️🪓 Your party treks through the dense, whispering forest, the canopy casting dappled shadows on the mossy floor. The air is cool and crisp, filled with the scent of pine and the distant sound of a brook. As you push through a thicket of brambles, you stumble upon a clearing, and there, the mouth of a cavern yawns ominously.

With cautious steps, you enter the cave, the light from your torches casting long, flickering shadows against the rough walls. The sound of dripping water echoes throughout the cavern, and a low, guttural growl rumbles from the depths. You press on, the growl growing ever closer, until you reach a wider chamber.

There, you find a grim sight: cages crudely fashioned from the bones of large creatures, and within them, the villagers who had gone missing. Guarding the prisoners are hulking figures—Jotun Trolls, their skin like rough bark and their eyes glinting in the torchlight. They grasp uprooted trees as clubs, and the air around them shimmers with the remnants of spellcasting. A battle to free the prisoners is imminent, and stealth and strategy will be as necessary as courage and strength. 🌲❄️🪓

Traits

Keen Smell. The Jotun Troll has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on smell.

Regeneration. The Jotun Troll regains 10 hit points at the start of its turn. If the troll takes acid or fire damage, this trait doesn't function at the start of the troll's next turn. The troll dies only if it starts its turn with 0 hit points and doesn't regenerate.

Tree Uproot. The Jotun Troll can uproot a large tree and use it as a club.

Innate Spellcasting. The Jotun Troll's innate spellcasting ability is Wisdom (spell save DC 10). The Jotun Troll can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components:

At will: fog cloud

3/day each: entangle, spike growth

1/day each: ice storm, stone skin

Actions

Uprooted Tree Club. Melee Weapon Attack: +10 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 33 (4d12 + 7) bludgeoning damage. On a hit, the target must succeed on a Strength saving throw (DC 17) or be knocked prone.

Rock. Ranged Weapon Attack: +10 to hit, range 60/240 ft., one target. Hit: 29 (4d10 + 7) bludgeoning damage.

Trolldryck (1/Day). As an action, the Jotun Troll can consume a Trolldryck potion to boost its spellcasting. For the next minute, its spell save DC increases by 8.
