listening to your post commentary and the author of heartstopper aside bc i didn’t read what she said i didn’t know people were trying to say heartstopper dropped the ball???? like i said in an earlier comment i did see people complaining about them not having sex (grown adults mind you) and i was floored over reading it especially bc it came from a JOURNALIST. they were saying it paints them as too innocent and perfect and i really couldn’t believe my eyes. imagine how teenagers who are watching who also feel like they aren’t ready for sex like them feel reading ppl say it’s weird and unrealistic that they aren’t having sex. and it’s like they forget how much they’re going through with nick only just realizing he likes boys recently and trying to come out and charlie with his body issues and mental health issues. i can’t take these ppl seriously!!!!

also i like dee mentioning being happy nick is reiterating he’s bi so much. that’s another thing some ppl are complaining about saying it’s cringe and that why does he keep repeating it. acting as if ppl won’t tell bi boys they’re gay when they find out they like both and tell bi girls they’re just straight when say they like both. they will invalidate you constantly so i like that nick is repeating it.

See I think there is a conversation to be had about how some western people view BL as a genre as just yaoi when I find that to be an unfair generalization. BL and BL manga has come a long way with a lot of queer directors and writers actually helming them now and many don’t even have sex in them..because I have seen very ignorant comments coming from people about Asian media like danmei authors not going to pride when they live in China..it’s risking their lives to even reveal their real names. But there is also a conversation to be had about over sexualization of teens in media in general and using BL as a way to tear Heartstoppers narrative down is plain dumb, & also very ignorant. We all know most BL isn’t the most realistic accept for a select few every year, and this story seems to be going the extra mile of exploring just queer people with sincerity and I’m sorry not every couple has sex..it’s completely normal and healthy also a dumb ass criticism…I guess my issues are people using such broad things to explain why one is better when that’s just silly. The BL umbrella is vast and encompasses so much and many different narratives and cultures we can’t use that as the one all be all especially when it comes to the realism debate lol..when you have the director of Only Friends literally saying Hearstopper is great to have and there is validity in it people really need to just take a seat. People really just need to relax..just today people were wanting Jojo to defend and explain why OF has to much sex in it compared to western shows like Heartstopper when people were literally complaining a week ago about Heartstopper..either there too much sex and they get lectured or there isn’t enough and it gets criticized..

i was so confused about the complaining as well. they are only 15/16 years old!! and i know there are definitely people who are sexually active at that age but not everyone is. and they are doing a lot of making out and rolling around on the bed together.... that's more than I was expecting! but people complaining made me so upset. not everyone wants to have sex that young. i think almost every other show out there shows kids in high school having sex. and i know for me and my friends at least, we never had sex while in high school, so those shows dont really relate with me. but this does and i appreciate that. :)

for some reason people forget that different stories require different things for their characters and themes. lots of bls focus on sex or have low-production instead of telling a complete, well-rounded story, so i think the concern there is that those shows might drown out the diamonds in the rough. bc there are some asian bls that i love more than heartstopper (but it shouldn't be a competition bc they're telling different stories). heartstopper is great to me because it just is what it is, and doesn't rely on gimmicks/tricks to tell a story. western media has conditioned so many ppl to expect sex from high school kids it's very weird. yeah it happens, but not every story has to have it. i think ppl are just worried that heartstopper is sanitizing the queer experience to make it palatable but i disagree. ppl get mad at the thai bls for not being queer enough & for relying on sex, then get mad at this for not having it?? pls pick a battle

also i agree that there is a difference between bls and gay/queer storytelling, but i think its fair to say that some bls definitely incorporate the queer experience like itsay, 180 degrees, bad buddy, eclipse, bmf, old-fashioned cupcake. the problem is that "bl" is both a capitalistic industry and simply a category of media at the same time, and lots of asian shows only focus on the profit.

My thing about Heartstopper is that is is a show geared towards young people and teens. Alot of the shows that are queer dramas are NOT shows I think would be considered gearee toward young people, particularly teens. I mean the show has won Emmys for season 1 at the Children's & Family Emmy Awards. Those other shows like folks mentioned like Euphoria, SKAM, Young Royals, or even non LGBTQIA led shows like say Stranger Things are shows written by adults FOR adult consumption. My goddaughter is 12, she should NOT be watching Euphoria...but Heartstopper, I'd let watch Heartstopper. And imagine a pre-teen watching a show like Heartstopper with the representation it has for so many aspects of the LGTBQIA+ community...that's big deal I would say.

2023-08-21 10:51:02 Here to say I've just finished Season 1!!! in one sitting, watched BMSS and kept thinking about Stay With Me and how its over because I was home all day from being sick, have to say I was crying had horrible stomach pains and had a stuffy nose like girl I was a hot mess xD I see what you meant about episode 3, I remember this was airing around the same time bad buddy was I think so I was getting all the feels. Also love every character, I very much like how mellow it is from the character interactions to just the all-around nice feeling it was just a lovely time! It for some reason reminded me of when I watched this anime and all it was about was just teen girls going winter camping, experiencing the outdoors, having retrospective thoughts and enjoying friendships with their camping club, no fight scenes, no romance, no drama just them camping. There was a real beauty in the simple feelings of being young and the youthful exuberance of being in highschool not having to worry about the future it reminded me a lot of this..I appreciate the all-ages appeal, it reminds me of Degrassi or a series like My So Called Life in terms of having good representation for younger viewers but also can appeal to adults too, it strikes a very nice balance. WELP I hope no more crying from fluffy today I feel like when im sick im a lot more prone to crying xD

I don't think it's outta consideration for them. He probably wants to out them but is terrified they'll do the same to him (they wouldn't cause they are not assholes) but Ben can't fathom that there are people like that out in the world. He thinks everyone is like him, hiding thier true selves and intentions behind a facade

this what i think you dont have to have sex if you dont want too and you just make out with out having sex that part of realationship but the most in realionship is trust and honestey if u dont have that u got nothing what nick and char was doing is just makeing out nothing more because they arent ready for big step its take time u have to be comfortable and just waite until you are ready to have sex so that what i think i might be worg but that just me
