(: Tomás is 50 years old and has been a shoe shiner for 36 years, since the age of 14 when he moved to Mexico City. Tomas gives his regular customers a shoe shine outside of La Polar Restaurant, every day from 11 am to 3 pm. La Polar is a well-known restaurant in the neighbourhood of San Rafael, open since 1934. Their speciality is 'birria', a traditional Mexican slow cook meat. The restaurant is so busy on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays when families from all over the city come to gather, enjoy the birria and some mariachi live music. Tomas works with a traditional shoe shine box. He uses a bench for his customers to sit on or gives a shoe shine while customers are standing.
