This was one of the best episodes of Smallville. Although (at this time of the series) most of the fans rightfully hated Lionel’s actions however it was great to FINALLY get some clarity as to why Lionel appears to hate Lex and couldn’t tell him that he loved him. All of this was because Lionel thought that Lex killed Jillian. Lex reasoning for repressing the memory and not revealing it at the time was right on the money! Lionel would have destroyed his wife but Lex knew he would be safe so took the fall. Great acting between MR and JG because although the truth is out, too much damage has already been done to their relationship. It’s even more complexed now. The mother’s love in this episode was also great. Clark’s first word was Lara. ❤️ I liked seeing a greet Martha and Clark moment because most of the time it’s Clark and Jonathan.

One of the best episodes and one of my favorites of the whole series. Definitely makes me cry at the end.

Always interesting to watch this episode. We see Lionel in a more loving light towards Lex before Julian's death. Yes, he's still Lionel there, but there's a tenderness there that only peeks its head every now and then in the Smallville present. And yeah, it's a lot more understandable why Lionel treats Lex the way he does now. It's still reprehensible, but understandable. The acting between John Glover and Michael Rosenbaum was exceptional in that final scene, especially from Glover. The realization on Lionel's face how different things could have been between himself and Lex if he had known the truth, as well as the regret for how things transpired was just done so well! Smallville was lucky to have these two actors!
