Thank you DANNAABIT for picking the excellent series. Season one has two of my favorite episodes. They both show just how badass and ruthless Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson can be.

Love this show. Looking forward to seeing more.

Have been wanting to rewatch this because I am watching one of the actors in Resident Alien (an excellent show if you haven't seen it) and it has made me want to watch where I met him again.

My first comment was just on seeing you were doing it, but now I watched your reaction. I love Brenda. She is definitely complicated and not always likable, which has been done more now, but that aspect of a main character, especially a female one, was not done much back then. She is a badass, but they don't sacrifice her femininity to do that. The start is a bit slow, but I think a lot of that is the fact the department dynamics are so complicated and they wanted to make sure that you understood what was going on. Plus there is a large cast of characters to introduce. I think it ultimately pays off setting it up here and building on it. It was an interesting first case, especially for me. I was raised Christian (and still am). I was very conservative, even the last time I watched this episode, but now I am out and proud as bisexual. I belong to a very loving and inclusive church and am re-evaluating a lot of interpretations of the Bible I grew up on. Even back then my reaction was like yours "you think God would prefer murder over being gay?" I am sad to say that I probably understood her shock and horror more than I should have though. This episode reminds me how much I have grown and changed though, and that makes me happy. TV that explored LGBTQIA+ storyline and characters were a big part of my story. So, even if many were very flawed I am grateful for shows that were willing to discuss these topics.
