Heartless- Thank you so very much for your reaction to another of my absolute favorite episodes within this season, Travis! I absolutely love this episode! I absolutely love, love, love Snow's and Charming's love story throughout this entire show, and it's wonderful finally seeing a new Snow and Charming centric episode that truly shows their love for one another, after so long. We haven't had a major storyline centered around them since season four's episode... Best Laid Plans, back when we learn about what they did to Maleficent and Lily in order to try to protect Emma. And that episode's storyline puts them in a pretty bad light. So, finally having a very positive and absolutely beautiful story for them again, is absolutely phenomenal, and I love it so, so much!!! :) I absolutely love how beautifully this episode's backstory ties so perfectly in with its present day storyline, as the Evil Queen has threatened both Snow and Charming, and how instead of this villainess' threat tearing them all apart or it making Snow and Charming panic, her threat leads them to only growing that much closer to one another. Which shows us just how truly beautiful their love for one another really is. And at last... The Evil Queen finally gets one up on our heroes, and succeeds in her dastardly deeds!! I absolutely love it!! :) I love seeing Snow and Charming seek out a way to stop the Evil Queen with Regina's and Blue's help, as we learn about a magical sapling that is born from the first spark of the True Love Snow and Charming share for one another. Sadly, we don't actually get to see how it could have helped our heroes defeat the Evil Queen, on account of the Evil Queen arriving in time to stop them by breaking the sapling in half, then turning the halves into ash. I would have liked to see what kind of power it had, aside from it having the power to remind Snow and David of their love for one another upon them seeing many past moments they've shared with one another that have made them fall in love with one another. And yet, it's truly beautiful that we all are reminded of their love story from the beginning, as we see the flashes of their love story shown throughout past seasons. Including a moment between them that neither Snow nor David realized they shared, since they hadn't officially met yet. And wow!! So beautiful!! This episode for me is actually one of my very favorite episodes centered around Snow and Charming, because both the past and present storylines are just so beautiful. And you truly see these actors' real love for one another. Ginnifer Goodwin and Josh Dallas are in love, and their love shows in every way they play their characters all throughout this show. It's really incredible. I love them so much as actors, and it's so wonderful to see their love only continue to grow more and more as Once Upon a Time is told in seven seasons. And now... I absolutely love, love, love the overall backstory between Snow and Charming of course as well!! I love that while they don't actually meet one another face to face, as we know they don't meet one another until the events shown throughout season one's episode... Snow Falls, which are later changed on account of Emma's and Killian's time travel adventure shown throughout season three's two part finale... Snow Drifts and There's No Place Like Home, Snow and Charming's love story actually begins here, in the most unexpected way. In a way that proves these two people are absolutely destined to love one another. :) I love how both Snow and David wind up meeting the woodcutter, who comes to abduct Snow so he can collect the reward for her capture from the Evil Queen, while he also renders David unconscious simply so he can use David's beautiful dog, Wilby, in order to track and capture Snow White. And I love how Wilby does as the woodcutter asks in order to protect his master, whom you can see Wilby loves when he comes back to David to wake him up, then leads him to Snow, who has now become trapped inside the woodcutter's cart. I love how Snow and Charming soon work together to defeat the woodcutter so they can save one another despite them not having seen one another. I love that they just trust one another and work together. And they succeed. And then... They share a beautiful moment where they talk and thank one another. Not just because they save one another, but because they both give one another what they truly need. Snow gives David her money he needs to save his farm for his mother, and David gives Snow the strength and courage she needs to stay and fight back against the Evil Queen. And therefore, she soon comes to be the bandit Snow we know her to be from early on. And then... The first spark of their True Love is born, in the moment they first touch as Snow reaches out to give Charming her coins. And just the way they both smile as they talk to one another... So, so beautiful. And I absolutely love the split screen shots as we see them talking, with Charming outside of the cart, while Snow remains inside. At last... We come to the absolutely incredible ending when Snow and Charming bravely come to face the Evil Queen in the cemetery as she demands in order to protect their family and friends, and all of Storybrooke. I love seeing them stand up to the Evil Queen as they declare that their love for one another is stronger than any kind of curse or punishment the Evil Queen could ever inflict upon them. And I believe it. Their True Love is stronger. And yet... The Evil Queen's curse is cast once Regina removes the protection spell she had cast over their hearts at their request and then selflessly face the Evil Queen to allow her to do rip out their hearts. And boy... Her curse is absolutely cruel, yet very clever. As heartbreaking as it is, I absolutely love, love, love this major twist and new take on the sleeping curse once cast over Snow White, now cast on them both by different means. I love everything about the final minutes within this episode. From how delightfully evil the Evil Queen is as she rips out their hearts and holds the halves in her hands to curse them while talking so cruelly of her plans for them. Her telling David to see what happens once he finds Snow after she falls under the sleeping curse. Seeing David rushing home and then through the woods as he searches desperately for his wife. To seeing David lean in to kiss Snow lying inside her glass casket once again like he does in season one's Pilot episode and showing us flashes of their True Love's Kiss shared then too. And finally to seeing David then become rendered asleep when he too becomes cursed upon waking Snow. The Evil Queen's curse is so cruel and heartbreaking, knowing that Snow and Charming are now cursed to be alone, as one of them will forever be asleep as the other remains awake, even with True Love's Kiss, until they can break this curse. And it's absolutely fabulous storytelling! I love it!! :) Now... I think I explained to you in my comments back in season two's episode, titled... Into the Deep, why I felt that Henry wasn't able to wake David through True Love's Kiss. However, that was a long time ago. I honestly don't think True Love's Kiss would work between David and Henry then for two reasons. One... David's True Love is Snow and always has been. He loves her more than anyone else in the whole world. Not to say that he doesn't truly love Emma and Henry, but Snow is his first and they have saved one another time and time again. And two, and most importantly... While Charming and Henry do love one another because they are grandfather and grandson, they had barely begun to get to know one another back then. They knew each other during the original dark curse, but they had only just begun to get to know one another as grandfather and grandson. The same goes for the love between Snow, Charming, and Emma. They love one another, but their love isn't enough to break this curse. It's solely built around Snow's and Charming's love for one another. So, I don't believe True Love's Kiss from their daughter, son, and/or grandson would work. And now... Even though both Snow and David truly love Emma, Henry, and Neal, and they truly love Snow and David in return, David's first True Love is still Snow, just like Snow's first True Love is David. And chances are... The Evil Queen most likely has cursed the halves of their hearts so that only their own True Love can wake one another such as her curse works. I hope this explanation makes sense and helps you, Travis. These last few minutes within this episode are some of my favorite moments of the whole episode. These final scenes... These final moments, are absolutely incredible and beautiful, and I love every minute of this ending!! :) Also... I love Blue throughout this episode as well. I especially love seeing her fight with Snow to help her against the woodcutter. It's great to see her try to help her long time friend by offering her hope, and try to encourage Snow to keep believing in love. Another of my absolute favorite moments with this episode... I absolutely love, love, love the beautiful moments shared between Killian and Emma down inside Regina's vault!! I love, love, love Killian's "story time", as Killian lovingly reminds Emma of how she brought her parents together and of just how strong and beautiful she truly is, using the storybook to help as a guide as he shows her pages of Snow's and David's love story, as well as the page showing their own. I love seeing Killian so lovingly encourage Emma to remember who she is. I just love how gentle, patient, and loving Killian is towards Emma upon seeing her struggle so deeply with the tremors in her hands, that only grow worse the more stress she falls under. So, so beautiful!!! I absolutely love it!! :) Then, once again... I do love how Belle stands up to Gold. And I appreciate that Zelena has finally chosen to help one of our heroes, even if she does so out of spite towards the Evil Queen and Gold upon becoming envious of their sordid affair. Unfortunately... Gold clearly doesn't learn anything from hearing Belle call him a coward on account of him being too afraid to fail and being too afraid to even try to be good any longer. And of course, Gold blames Zelena for Belle's harsh words. I am so over Gold right now, and I have been for quite some time. He is the most powerful character throughout all of Once Upon a Time, and yet he is also the weakest character too, because he is such a coward. And yes... While he is annoying to every fan of this show right now, this way of writing this character is absolutely brilliant and phenomenal storytelling!! Such brilliant contrast! Overall... I absolutely love, love, love this episode so much! Heartless is a phenomenal episode, and one of my favorite Snow and Charming centric episodes throughout all of Once Upon a Time. It's so beautiful!! Thank you once more for this phenomenal reaction to an episode I love very much, Travis!! I loved watching this episode again with you! You're wonderful, my dear friend! Sincerely, Heidi
