This episode did what Grey’s Anatomy does best, the patient storylines mirrored what the doctors are going through. Everyone was fighting so hard to save the pregnant woman because they couldn’t help April. Then April having that moment with the woman who lost her fiancee and it applying to both of their situations? Amazing!

Absolutely love this episode but the one thing I never quite got was how removed Meredith seemed from the main storyline. Did we see her put down a candle? (she came in to interrupt Bailey, but other than that?) She lived with both April and Jackson and, along with Karev, is the only one left from their programme. It just always seemed weird to me.

Ugh this episode is heartbreaking ❤️‍🩹. And I hate to defend Shonda. But the storyline ideas was Sarah’s. However she did mention it before she was actually pregnant ( back in season 10 when Catherine found out they were married and asked about April being pro life) AND Shonda didn’t have to do it. And if I remember correctly there was an interview in which Sarah said Shonda did ask if she were sure she could do this storyline while pregnant. Unfortunately, not so fun fact Sarah went into labor weeks early, 10 hours after filming this episode and her baby ended up in the nicu for a few weeks. The scene where Catherine helps April be ok with how to do this is one of my favorite scene of hers.

I binged this show when I was 30 weeks pregnant, I had just moved into my apartment and I was alone and I remember holding my stomach sobbing after this, I remember the pain I felt and I can’t imagine how Sarah did these scenes with her own baby in her belly. It must have been so hard, she is one of the best characters in my opinion.

this is one of the best episodes but it’s also an episode i cannot watch most of the time. it’s so beautifully written, and acted. April, who we know is pro life having to make this choice because her baby is in pain is so heart wrecking.

my mom was told she couldn’t have kids, my dad was also told he couldn’t have children…they then proceeded to have me and my sister😂 also on a light note, there was an entire show based called i didn’t know i was pregnant and it had a sequels i didn’t know i was pregnant with twins😂 you’d be shocked how often people poop babies out on toilets not knowing it’s a baby😭😂

Sarah Drew went into premature labor 13 hours after shooting the last scenes too. There’s so much wrong with this storyline 😂 😭 Amelia was on edge the whole episode, I’m glad she clarified why at the end.

I totally agree, this episode was so great and important even though it was completely heartbreaking. It is really sad though and I feel so much for Japril here. I feel the candle thing adds to the emotion too. But yeah, aside from that the writers are evil. Ugh. Oh and side note but the title of that episode is "All I could do was cry".

I believe someone else already said this but the story itself was actually Sarah Drew’s idea! Apparently someone she knew or a friend of her family went through this and so she brought the storyline to the producers. I agree it is important to give representation and create awareness about these things, as heartbreaking as they can be. Sarah’s acting was out of this world! I love her

It’s also one of those things where you’d also don’t know what people around you have been through. Amelia was able to offer so much advice because she said she had been through a similar situation. Her baby lived for 43 minutes. That’s why it’s important to get to know peopleon a human level and not just based on their capability. I say that, and in the same breath, Amelia made a point to say that as a doctor, sometimes you have to dehumanize it and focus on your goal when she was talking to Stephanie about that blind man.
