Okay so basically what you said at the end is correct, it is totally random! It started to evolve, as viruses do, and it just happened to evolve in that girl and the bully guy, which is horrible because since he's infected the zombies won't go after him, but his awareness makes him want to go after Cheongsan! So in a way these new zombies are even more dangerous, IF they have a grudge against anyone.. Also even though the virus has evolved it won't happen to ANYONE who gets bitten, there are just different variants now (like what happened with COVID) so there's a chance to get infected to the evolved one, but also still a chance to just turn. Sorry for the long comment 😭 hope it made sense!
