Hi again Marko! OMG, what happened to my comment? It was there but all of a sudden disappeared.... Patreon is acting a bit strange tonight. Oh well, will type that again, I suppose. :) So this episode was just pure bliss, wasn't it? You said it so well yourself, so I will just say another thing or two. You say that no matter the worldline, Okabe is suffering, unless it's Stein's Gate worldline. I just wanted to make a little addition, though I'm sure you know it as well: since Okabe has a Reading Steiner ability, for him this adventure is continuous. And that, unfortunately, means that Okabe has to go through all these sufferings in order to reach Stein's Gate ultimately. There are no shortcuts for our poor man Okabe. There also seems to be a grim philosophy behind the show: in order to succeed, one has to fail many times initially. Okabe needed to fail countless times in saving Mayushi, to become mentally devastated by that, before finding the right way. He also needed to fail once in saving Kurisu before receiving a video message from his future self with hints on how to do it. And now he needs to live through all that hell to allow his past self to reach Stein's Gate. This motive is recurring in the show. Well, I always want to write short comments, but I guess not only Okabe needs to fail many times. xDDD

Yo Glib! :D I don't know what's happening with comments, Steve also had problem like this the other day... At the end of the day, Okabe's experience and countless times that he failed are necessary for him to reach Steins;Gate, just like Maho was quoting him in this episode. It's very cruel but because all that suffering he is going through, he will reach Steins;Gate. It's just like you said, a grim philosopy and I think it's one of the most important pieces of Steins;Gate and why it's one of the most compelling shows that I have seen! :)

Steve.

My comment quickly became an essay, so fair warning. I'd like to add my thoughts on the comment about the show's messaging and how I see it. While the events of the show are dark and overwhelming at times, I think the central message is very uplifting and empowering. To me, the message of Steins;Gate is as follows: You cannot win the game of circumstance. Sometimes terrible things happen for no reason, or reasons you can't (and may never) understand. Sometimes people commit evil acts that bring suffering. Sometimes the laws of the universe just seem to conspire against your efforts to succeed. BUT--all of the above have one thing in common: they are out of your control. The universe cannot be challenged. You cannot predict what other people or nature will do to you. That is indeed grim, but the show is offering a solution: everything else may be out of your control, but there is one thing that is in your control, and that one thing can literally change the world. And that thing is... your choices. Circumstances are beyond your control, but you have a choice in how you respond to them. You have a choice to respond to suffering in a way that makes you stronger. That's what Okabe exemplifies. He goes through hell, but instead of falling into despair, he takes all of that experience and channels it into something positive. In the end, he uses the same rules of reality that have killed his friends over and over again to save them, he finds a loophole to overcome convergence and reach the world he wishes for. It's as he says in EP 23 of the original show, "If you've opened this message, then you've failed to save Kurisu. It must have been painful. But that pain gave rise to my obession, so I couldn't afford to undo it. The only reason we made it this far is because we both want to save Kurisu." Without the pain, there would be no character growth, and then there would be no action to change anything. Pain and failure are necessary to grow. Okabe is on the extreme end of it for sure, but what makes him so inspiring is his will to fight, a hundred, thousand, or a million times over. The show also emphasizes the importance of strong bonds and friendships to get you through the darkness in your life. Okabe has teeterd on the edge of despair for most of the series, and without his friends he'd be done for. He has real friends who aren't afraid to call him out, cry with him, or punch him in the face if necessary. In his lab, when one member is weak the others are strong. The message I take from this series is that the path to Steins Gate is in your hands at any moment, it just takes a connection to those you love, belief in yourself, and your choice to pursue it.

Wow man, that was amazing explanation of Steins;Gate message... Thank you! I also feel like friendship is very important in Steins;Gate and that every lab member will be the light for another lab member who is trapped in the dark. It's unconditional love between friends and when you mix that with Okabe's suffering, there's our answer on how he still manages to keep fighting!
