fun fact: the relative that damon killed was joseph salvatore, which surpriseee he was already mentioned in S1 when elena found out about stefan being a vampire (he was the uncle that died in that old tape that logan fell's channel had in the archive), other fun thing is that we finally know the reason of why damon had his emotions off in the 70's when lexi tried to help him! i love this episode

The writers were really just doing anything cause wdym Elena told Damon she was going to WHITMORE college and he didn’t think anything of it?? 😭😭😭 They could’ve at least added in a scene where he acted weird about it

I think the point was that in that moment Damon didn’t prioritise saving Enzo and instead chose to enact his revenge first. I don’t blame him because by the time he realised what was going on it was too late to save Enzo, but I also get why Enzo would hate him for it. It’s just a bad situation all around.

I enjoy the Augustine plot tbh. We don’t know much about Damon between 1864 & the start of the show so it’s always nice to get some backstory. I also like the world building cause it totally makes sense that scientists would want to experiment on vampires to further medicine. But I get why some may not like it because I don’t feel that it impacts the characters or the plot a lot, if at all really.

The emotions that leaves Damon’s face when he turns it off gives me chills. this is one of the best episodes where ian’s acting shines the most.

I feel so bad for damon. He was being tortured, starved and locked in a cell every day for 5 years because of the whitmores treating him like a lab experiment. It must have been so traumatizing for him to go through.

The way that damon kept this a secret from Stefan so he didn’t need to feel guilty for not finding him is so sweet. He cares so much for his little brother. 😭

The fact that damon had to turn his humanity off to leave Enzo so that he can escape breaks my heart. You can clearly see how hard it was for damon to leave him there in the fire. 😭

Damon didn’t mention anything about whitmore because he rarely wants to bring up his past trauma to anyone. Damon is the type to hide his pain with his humor.

this isn't my favorite season but I do think its overhated. It has so many great moments and scenes. I love the Augustine plot, Silas plot, Katherines story with Nadia and I find the travelers interesting. It feels different for sure compared to season 3 cuz it digs into more supernatural and witch parts of their world. s1-3 were just vampires, wolves and witches. s4 opened a new world to the series. I like moments from season 4 ofc but IMO I think s5 is more fun to watch cuz its diff stories of all different parts of tvd besides sirebond, cure and vampire Elena. Each character gets to shine in s5 which is what I liked about it as well

Damon trauma episodes are always a hard rewatch for me they put him through hell but tvdu's 4th best man is finally here, my baby Enzo ❤️
