The Reveal (Patreon)
Content
-- spirituality, personal understanding of the sublime/the divine, reconciliation between profound and profane, religious institutions and the baggage therein --
The Reveal is partly based on tarot cards like The High Priestess and The Hierophant. It's also a more personal "card" because of my experiences with organized Christianity, my personal journey in understanding what place "taboo" subjects like tarot have in my life, and so forth.
The focal character, Ashe, is a Messenger (an angel, in essence), disguised as a mortal to carry out their duties in the story they reside in. They also have an interesting kinship with candles...
The Behemoth and the Leviathan relief on the table, referencing William Blake's depiction of the Book of Job, was a little easter egg I wanted to add for anyone who has a background in biblical/theological studies as I do.
Understanding the intersection I have between a religious upbringing and a queer person who has a lot of loved ones traumatized by organized religion (read: Christian churches), this card is something of an acknowledgement and a reconciliation.
Spirituality, this pursuit of something/someone bigger than yourself, is a journey. And while we all can share about our journeys and where they've taken us, we each make that choice of if, where and how to travel it ourselves.
