This is the final B/W drawing for an upcoming color commission.  It will be the first in a series anthro MLP genies pieces. The first up is the lovely Rarity.  I find doing these finished B/W drawing lets me work out all subtle lighting details before I start putting color down on the Bristol Board.

Tomorrow night 12/21/19 starting at 5:30pm Pacific I will be having my final Picarto stream of 2019. Also tomorrow I will be raising money for Second Harvest Food of Silicon Valley. So join me for an evening of art, stories, and some really great folks!

The portion of the nebulous part of the genie appears to be more in accordance with fluid dynamics, rather than that of a nebulous gas/smoke. It looks a little odd/off but that may be my proclivity toward the traditional portrayal of a genie as having a gaseous/smoke-like link between their image manifestation and their prison/domicile.

I have such a weakness for cute/skimpy bedlahs on healthy ladies. So much so that I'm going to start a second volume of my con sketchbook "the Portable Harem"...

I suspect the genie association with smoke stems from the djinn association with smoke and fire, which is probably reflected in the original folk tales. But gasses are also fluids (as opposed to liquids), and I'd expect a being that can take the form of smoke would appear more liquid than gaseous / particulate due to being more cohesive.

In the dreams where I've had djinn in them, including genie Rarity, it starts out as a smoke/gas but the further away from the lip of bottle the more fluid-like and eventually solid it becomes. There will be a bit more smoke in the finished color piece.
