Dragoon Armor (Patreon)

This is a patron reward for ColdSilverD.  The character is from Final Fantasy XIV and she is a Viera and her name is Taylyn Icinda and she's a dragoon. The weapon she's holding is Gae Bolg.

     As an avid hobbyist of military history, especially ancient and medieval, and having known people who have been avidly involved in reenacting I gained some experience and knowledge about armor. So whenever I'm asked to do armor from various popular culture properties I have suspend my critical eye. 

     Instead I have remind myself that this class of armor is what I refer to as Type 3 tech. It's all about the Rule of Cool. 

    For folks who are wondering what I'm referring when I say Type 3 tech I have 4 basic category of technology I design for. Those are:

     Type 1. Technology that actually has to work. The design must be actually work and be usable for its intended purpose. Issues of cost, reliability, and available technology must be considered. 

     Type 2. Technology that appears to perform its intended role. However upon closer examination or consideration one realizes that its impractical.  These are objects often subject to bouts of Fridge Logic.

     Type 3. The Rule of Cool is the overriding concern with this type of tech. You don't care whether it would actually work or not. Because it just looks so awesome and amazing you go along for the ride.

     Type 4. This is Loony Toons tech. Its goofy, impractical, silly, wacky, and utterly defy physics.  Gigantic toon hammers that are 6 times larger than the box they were pulled. Hammerspace is often an important element of Type 4 tech.
