One of the drawings I started during my most recent Picarto stream. The theme of the stream was fantasy. A reoccurring theme in the fantasy genre is characters flying on the great beasts. Dragons, or giant insects, birds, and bats. Link Although depending on the size of the character the flying mount maybe smaller in size.  Especially if you're only eight and a half inches tall. 

      This is my muse Petina in her original small mouse form and she is riding a Flying Fox bat. Link It seemed like a suitable mount for a Heavy Metal setting.
