A commission I finished recently of Sonny Starbrite  as he watches a storm slowly rolls across the countryside. This was an interesting piece to do because the setting is very dark as the rain clouds slowly envelope the land, but at the same time I had this very vibrant character who I had to integrate into the scene. If I didn't get the lighting and his coloration correct he wouldn't look like he was part of the landscape. At the same time I didn't want him to look washed out.

Also I had to deal with the fact that his body was yellow, but his mane and tail are blue, but if I was not careful working and blending the colors I could accidentally make green. And Sonny is most certainly not green! The piece is done in my usual colored pencil, marker pen, technical pen, and white gouache on vellum finish Bristol Board. Image size is roughly 15"x 12".
