HELLO FRIENDS here is the sketch dump from this past month! it's not huge (as my sketch dumps never tend to be, i really gotta draw more) but! it's here nonetheless

this is a tiny moleskine that i always keep in my pocket so when i don't bring my backpack places i still have something to scribble in! wanna try scribbling in it more. also, i'm getting the hang of drawing profiles which is so exciting because they used to be my biggest fear !! PROGRESS

some of these doodles are referenced from some of frannerd's posts on instagram, cause i find her work so expressive?? yet she keeps it simple — she uses her line real estate very well! so i wanted to copy of some the poses from her recent comics to try and get a handle on flow/mood. also that girl in the yellow scarf is referenced from a photo i saved on insta — save all the photos you like on instagram!! they are very handy to use for references when you have no idea what to draw!

this sketchbook is great cause it was SO CHEAP but colored pencils don't look too great in it? like they lose all their creaminess and just turn out very scratchy — so this is not like a moleskine sketchbook which i'm more inclined to keep tidy so i'm gonna lean full into the mess of this !! which is a good thing! EMBRACE THE MONSTER also i wanna draw more fanart in 2019, particularly of link and kingdom hearts (but the real question is: will i ever be able to capture sora's hair correctly???? time will tell)

also i based the girl on the left page off of @jerianie on insta, whose feed is just all bright colors and cute outfits *-* super super great for reference!! also ! tried to learn how to draw tigers! it's...a process

and this page i drew today while i was out at a cafe! i got a negative comment on my most recent vlog, and it was really really getting to me so i walked to my fave coffee shop and just doodled! and i came up with this sweet tiny mushroom forager, named ethel! i think she might be my first oc since like 2010. she's a gourmet at home chef who lives in an upside down teapot in the garden of a farmer, so there's always lots of good stuff around!! her name is effie for short :') excited to draw a proper piece with her in it!

and a little ipad warm up from a couple weeks ago to round it out!

i have a goal in 2019 which i am going to declare here to y'all for the sake of accountability — i want to draw every single day and upload once a week on youtube!! I WANNA MAKE IT HAPPEN particularly the drawing every day. even if it's just a full, slightly fleshed out page in my sketchbook, i wanna make a whole bunch of stuff. i'm focusing on refining my creative process and creating new product for the shop, so my goals are clear and niche, so i don't spread myself too thin. looking back i have grown a lot this year, and i'm very very excited to keep growing in the new year. it's gonna be a year of a lot of changes but I'M READY FOR IT!!

happy happy new year from me, connor, and soph. wishing you all the very very best <3 stay safe and brilliant out there!

love,
chey

happy new year, chey!!! my fave part of this sketchbook dump was effie. she is so tiny and precious, and i bet her meals are delicious!!!! what if you made a small short story about her and illustrated it? that'd be INSANELY cool! but i also love how your drawings tell stories without using words. my hope for you in the new year is that you're able to find the proper balance between making a ton of growth in illustration and running your shop and being a not-too-stressed human. people need to eat and sleep too! i love and admire your ambition, but also pleeeeease don't forget to take proper care of yourself (and by extension, sophie and your love to connor etc etc). keep up the good work and ill see ya soon xx
