Alex and Emily stood at the counter, burning with indignation, but the receptionist’s response made them freeze for a moment. She looked at them with confusion, as if they were saying something completely absurd.

“Sorry, but I don’t understand what you’re talking about,” she said slowly, still looking at them as if they were crazy.

Alex frowned, feeling his irritation rising.

“What do you mean you don’t know anything?!” he snapped, using Emily’s voice, which was already driving him mad with how soft it was. “We’ve been living in each other’s bodies for a week! You have to switch us back!”

Emily, standing beside him, nodded angrily, crossing her arms over the broad male chest.

“This was an ‘experiment,’” she added, her voice low and threatening. “We were promised they’d return us in three days. Where are these people? Who’s in charge?”

The receptionist froze, staring at them with even more bewilderment, as if trying to grasp the absurdity of the situation.

“Sorry,” she said slowly, frowning, “but... body swap? Is this some kind of joke?” She looked from Alex to Emily, as if searching for signs of a prank. “That’s just impossible.”

Alex felt his patience snap.

“Impossible? I’ve been sleeping in the same bed with her dumb boyfriend for three nights, and it’s not funny!” he shouted, glaring at Emily before turning back to the receptionist. “You could have at least warned me about him!”

Emily looked at him in surprise, raising an eyebrow.

“He… you let him in?!” her voice sounded strained, as if she couldn’t believe what she was hearing.

Alex couldn’t hold it in anymore and exploded:

“Of course I let him in! What was I supposed to do? He showed up at the door, not suspecting that you’re now me, started kissing me, apologized for something, brought flowers! And just so you know, I had to sleep with him, and this has been going on for three nights straight! Do you have any idea what I’m going through?!”

“You idiot! You didn’t have to let him in! And you could’ve warned me about your mistress too! She showed up at the office, started kissing me in front of everyone like nothing was wrong! I had to call security to throw her out!”

Alex froze for a moment, not expecting this, but his anger quickly returned.

“You kicked out Marissa?! Are you out of your mind?!” His voice, even though feminine, sounded sharp and harsh. “I’ve been chasing her for six months! Six months, Emily!” Alex stepped forward, his face flushed with rage. “How can you even compare that to your boyfriend? I’m a man, do you know how hard this was for me?! I slept with him for your sake, so he wouldn’t suspect anything, and you just went and ruined everything!”

“Oh, ‘slept with him for my sake,’ did you?” her voice dripped with sarcasm. “And didn’t even enjoy it! Don’t lie to me, I know how good he is! And you could’ve just pretended to be sick or come up with something else! But no, you thought this was the best idea?! Yeah, real man, huh!”

They stood there, hurling insults at each other, while the receptionist, pale with shock, slowly began reaching for the phone.

“Excuse me,” her voice trembled as she spoke, “but this… this is too much. I’m calling security.”
