Take this with a grain of salt because I don't believe it was ever confirmed or anything. However, a note worthy thing to say about Knov is that he got to experience the Aura of the Royal Guards in a state of little to no protection against Nen. Just like how Zetsu would conceal your presence from the lack of emitting aura, it also remove all your protection against aura. One of the very first thing we learn about Aura is how no protection against Nen is extremely dangerous and taxing, such has when they learned Nen and were trying to simply walk through Hisoka's Nen at Heaven's Arena. So it's highly possible that he was in a very vulnerable state when he felt the aura which most likely made him feel the terror that much more. Explaining, somewhat, his current state.

I have never thought about that. That makes so much sense! Of course he was using zetsu while infiltrating, to not get detected, which would leave him vulnerable to the extremely strong nen aura of the royal guards. Thank you for giving this context <3 That has really cleared up what I thought was an inconsistency.

that and I think it might have to do with mentality, which plays a crucial role in HxH. Not saying that the spiders are stronger than Knov but I doubt any of them would feel fear in that situation just because of the crazy mentality that they have

i remember reading this arc in the manga while it was coming out. this episode was so good even tho it was mostly strategy but it was was SO HARD during the manga days bc he'd go on hiatus in the middle of it just to come back months later to finish them strategizing 😭😭 me not dropping it then just shows how good i think this arc is lol

HOLY i just looked back and the gap between the manga chapter that covers the end of this episode vs the very next chapter was feb 13, 2006 till oct 6, 2007 😭 but tbh that's better than him destroying his life to write this super complex arc in a weekly structure. i wish manga hxh was monthly back then
