Here we go again! There's something both distressing and liberating about resetting that number to zero. 214,002 was a big number, and I felt pretty good reaching it. But I wonder what the next quarter-million words will bring?
To be honest, I would've rathered start the year with a bang than a whimper, but despite work- and illness-related difficulties, I finally dragged myself back to the keyboard on Wednesday and managed my five-hundred a day (for two days). This lingering illness, whether Covid or just some long-lasting flu, is a real drag but feels as though it's finally gradually lifting somewhat.
Most importantly, I found myself still into the story I was telling as I returned to it. I've always got this fear--an irrational one, really, considering how long I've been at this--that after any kind of break, whether a few days or a few weeks, that the next time I sit down, it'll all be gone. Either the story will feel dead and pointless, or that no words will come when I try to type. This fear leads to procrastination and delays the return to writing despite the fact that every time, once I actually sit my lazy ass down, inevitably the words return.
I should have the next scene to share by the end of next week.
